Weekly Warp-Up: Gamescom 2016 In Review…
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
This year’s Gamescom expo was a relatively low-key event, though Konami managed to surprise everyone by announcing Metal Gear Survive, the first game in the Metal Gear franchise without Hideo Kojima’s involvement. Though we still know very little about it, fans don’t seem pleased that Konami decided to add interdimensional zombies to a franchise best known for its deeply philosophical themes.
Less surprising was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s coronation as the “Best of Gamescom.” After it’s massive unveiling at E3, Nintendo’s upcoming adventure game continues to overshadow every other game currently in development.
Elsewhere on Warp Zoned this week, we took a look at Dangerous Golf, the first game from the ex-Burnout devs at Three Fields Entertainment.
You can find more news from Gamescom after the break including updates on Injustice 2, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and Mass Effect. (more…)

New Retail Releases: Madden NFL 17, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, King of Fighters XIV, More

It’s FOOTBALL time ladies and gentlemen, which means it’s also time for EA Sports to release the next yearly installment in the Madden NFL franchise. Madden NFL 17 will be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this Tuesday, and Rob Gronkowski will adorn on the cover. This year, the development team at Tiburon focused on improving Madden’s famed Franchise Mode, so the hardcore statheads should be very happy.
EA also teamed up with Microsoft to offer an Xbox One S + Madden NFL 17 Bundle for fans looking to upgrade their Xbox One console. And if you’re not a sports fan, Microsoft will also launch an Xbox One S + Halo Collection Bundle this week.
Over in a completely separate corner of your local game store is this week’s other big launch… Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Square Enix and Eidos Montreal will release the next chapter in their futuristic story of technologically-augmented humans (and the people who hate them) for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Finally this week, SNK and Atlus will team up to bring The King of Fighters XIV to the PS4. The King of Fighters series gets a graphical overhaul in this 14th installment (not counting spinoffs), with 50 fighters set to battle it out in one of the franchise’s biggest games ever.
Don’t forget to check back later this week to learn all about the latest additions to the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Nintendo eShop.

Channel your inner Magneto in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Magnesis Trial

After giving fans a brief glimpse at a crumbling Temple of Time in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo returns with another short video showcasing one of the game’s Shrines.
Players who visit Shrine Oman Au (Fun Fact: “Oman Au” is an anagram of “Aonuma,” as in Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma) will be able to take part in the Magnesis Trial. As its name implies, the Magnesis Trial will give Link the power to manipulate metal objects like chests and doors with his hands… just like a certain Marvel supervillain. Completing the Trial will add the Magnesis ability to Link’s inventory, so he’ll be able to channel his inner Magneto throughout the rest of Hyrule as well:

According to Nintendo, more than 100 Shrines will be scattered across the Hyrulian landscape. Each Shrine will reward players with Spirit Orbs that can be traded for various items, as well as Runes (like the Magnesis Rune) that grant players powerful abilities.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released for the Wii U and NX sometime in 2017.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild wins 2016 “Best of Gamescom” Award

After winning a basketful of “Best of E3” awards earlier this year, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has similarly dominated the conversation at Gamescom. Link’s next adventure won two Gamescom Awards this year… “Best Wii U Game” and the coveted “Best of Gamescom.”
Several other games were also big winners at the European gaming convention including For Honor (“Best PlayStation 4 Game” and “Best PC Game”), Sea of Thieves (“Best Xbox One Game” and “Best Multiplayer Game”), and Battlefield 1 (“Best Action Game” and the “Most Wanted Consumer Award”).
The full list of winners and nominees can be found after the break. (more…)
Xbox Store Today: Slime Rancher (Game Preview), F1 2016
A pair of new games are now available to download through the Xbox Games Store…
First up is Slime Rancher, a first-person “life simulator” from developer Monomi Park that launched today as part of the Xbox Game Preview program. Players will take control of Beatrix LeBeau, a “plucky, young rancher” who wants to build a fortune by wrangling slimes on a distant planet called the “Far, Far Range.” I wonder if that’s in a galaxy near there?
Also available today is F1 2016, the latest open wheel racing sim from Codemasters. The newest Formula One racer includes “the full 2016 season calendar of 21 tracks,” as well as “the full roster of 22 drivers and 11 teams” and a brand new Career Mode.
More information about both of these games can be found after the break. (more…)
Square Enix is considering a Nintendo NX port of Dragon Quest Builders

Square Enix will release Dragon Quest Builders for the PS4 and Vita on October 10, and fans seem very excited about this latest spinoff from the megapopular RPG franchise.
In addition to its Minecraft-like presentation, the game also goes back to the franchise’s roots and tells a story directly connected to the destruction of Alfegard during the original Dragon Quest, which was released for the NES all the way back in 1989. And possibly because of that connection, there’s a real chance that Dragon Quest Builders might make its way back onto a Nintendo console next year.
Speaking to DualShockers at this year’s Gamescom event, Series Producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto said that Square Enix is considering a Nintendo NX port of Dragon Quest Builders. While it’s far from a sure thing, Fujimoto added that the “family-oriented” nature of Dragon Quest Builders would make it a great fit for the console.
The Nintendo NX will be released in March 2017… though we still know very little about Nintendo’s next console.

Watch Von Miller outdance Justin Bieber for Madden NFL 17 commercial
Von Miller is the NFL’s lovable goofball, and the All-Pro linebacker showed off some of his newest moves for a new Madden NFL 17 commercial. Believe it or not, the ad is actually a parody of Justin Bieber’s music video for “Sorry.” But instead of a musical apology, Miller is asking fans to “Start Me” and build their team around his defensive wizardry.
Miller has reason to be excited as EA Sports gave 110% to improving the Franchise Mode in Madden NFL 17, and it’s the subject of an epic-length “Kickoff Live” stream the publisher hosted yesterday. The game’s developers also showcased an extensive amount of gameplay footage, as well as “Madden Ultimate Team, Draft Champions, Madden Mobile and much more.”
Madden NFL 17 will be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on August 23. And you can check out a replay of the entire “Kickoff Live” stream after the break. (more…)
