Sony sets PlayStation TV, their Vita set-top box, for release on October 14

Sony has announced that their Vita set-top box, the PlayStation TV, will be released on October 14. The mini-console will be available by itself (for $99.99) and as a special bundle that includes a DualShock 3 controller, an 8GB Memory Card, and a copy of The Lego Movie ($139.99). And if you’re a regular Walmart shopper, you might like to know that the retailer will be carrying a special edition of the PlayStation TV bundle that also includes a copy of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.
According to Sony, the PlayStation TV includes the ability to play more than 700 games from a wide variety of PlayStation consoles. In addition to the vast majority of Vita games (which can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store or inserted into the Vita game slot), the mini-console can also play downloaded PSone and PSP Classics as well as PS3 games through the PlayStation Now streaming service. And just like a Vita, the PlayStation TV also supports PS4 Remote Play.
The complete list of every PlayStation TV-compatible title can be found at PlayStation.com.

Speaking of big games, the Warp Zoned staff got together for our Fall 2014 Preview by hosting the world’s first Video Game Fantasy League. Which of our Fall picks will be considered the best games of the year? Follow along with us as we find out. And finally, Allen Jenkins makes his Warp Zoned debut with a look at a classic light gun game in It Came From 19XX: Lethal Enforcers.

New Releases: Hyrule Warriors, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, FIFA 15, More

Have you got Destiny out of system yet? If so, there are plenty of new releases to talk about this week includingHyrule Warriors, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo’s mashup of The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors for the Wii U. If nothing else, the game will let us play as Ganondorf and that just sounds amazing.
Also available this week is Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes for the PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Disney’s “2.0” attempt at a toy/game hybrid adds Marvel superheroes and an expanded Toy Box Mode. And speaking of games that appear on a lot of platforms… EA Sports will release FIFA 15 this week for the 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Sorry, Wii U owners.
Finally this week, WB Games is rebooting the Gauntlet franchise on the PC and Microsoft is bundling up Killer Instinct‘s first season on the Xbox One in the Killer Instinct: Combo Breaker Pack.

XBL Store Today: D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, Flockers, Diablo III: UEE
Surprise! Swery65, the demented genius behind the equally demented Deadly Premonition has unleashed the first two episodes (and a prologue) of D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die on the Xbox Games Store. The Xbox One murder mystery uses a striking cel-shaded art style and features another dose of the developer’s trademark sense of humor. Also available on the Xbox One Store today is Flockers, a Lemmings-like puzzler from Team17 (the creators of Worms).
Xbox 360 owners can finally download the Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition beginning today. The $39.99 package includes both the original game and the Reaper of Souls expansion pack.
More details on all three games can be found after the break. (more…)

EDF 2025: The Shadow of New Despair TGS 2014 trailer pits mechas versus kaiju
D3 Publisher unveiled a new trailer for Earth Defense Force 2025: The Shadow of New Despair at the Tokyo Game Show today. Best of all, this trailer gives us our first glimpse at “The New Despair,” a massive Godzilla-like creature with glowing blue plates all over his body. Thankfully, the EDF has a counter weapon in the form of a towering mecha that looks like something out of The Transformers. If you’re a fan of the franchise, I strongly suggest you make time to check out this new trailer.
The PS4 upgrade of the bug-hunting favorite is currently on track for a 2015 release in Japan. Hopefully, an American release will be announced soon.

Nintendo Download: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy 2, Cooking Mama 5, FIFA 15, more

It’s a 3DS bonanza this week in the Nintendo Download.
Square Enix has released Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, the sequel to their fan favorite Final Fantasy rhythm game. Bigger in every way, Curtain Call includes “221 songs and more than 60 characters” to tap away the hours. Another big sequel available this week is Majesco’s Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appetit. The fifth helping of Cooking Mama includes more than 60 recipes. And finally, EA Sports has confirmed that FIFA 15 will be available to download through the 3DS eShop on Tuesday, September 23.
Of course, the real big news this week is that the Super Smash Bros. For 3DS demo will be available to all beginning tomorrow. Just in case you were on the fence, Nintendo’s got you covered.
More information on all of these titles (including a few more and a trio of new downloadable games for the Wii U) can be found after the break. (more…)

Deep Down’s TGS 2014 trailer shows us the future
The story in Capcom’s Deep Down will bounce back and forth between the glossy future of 2094 and the demonic catacombs of 1494. But how these two time periods relate to each other is still a big mystery.
The PS4 game’s later trailer, released to coincide with the Tokyo Game Show, doesn’t give us any new hints, but it does give us another look at one of 2015’s most intriguing games.
