Rockstar will release next-gen game by March 2015 after shipping 33 million copies of GTA5
Rockstar Games had a pretty good year. The developer’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, presented their quarterly financial report yesterday and announced that more than 33 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V have been shipped to stores since its September 2013 release. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick didn’t specify how many copies of the game have been purchased by gamers, but I’m going to go out on a limb and assume it’s somewhere between “a lot” and “a metric crap-ton.”
However, one piece of information Zelnick was interested in sharing was the news that Rockstar plans to release their first game for next-generation consoles sometime between today and March 31, 2015. While Rockstar still has 70s spy story Agent officially in development and hinted at Bully 2 in the past, this new game is most likely a PS4/Xbox One port of Grand Theft Auto V. Zelnick would only say that “we are excited about what they have in store for the new generation of systems for this fiscal year.”
Rockstar Toronto began hiring developers to work on a project for “next-gen consoles” last year, so whatever it is, it’s been in the works for quite a while now.
Zelnick confirmed that Take-Two would reveal more about Rockstar’s next-generation game at a later date. Presumably, he’s referring to the upcoming E3 Expo.
PS Store Today: Borderlands 2 Vita, Walking Dead Season 2: In Harm’s Way, more

Welcome to yet another weekly PlayStation Store update. The PS4 sits out this week, but there’s still a few big offerings now available for the PS3 and Vita.
Almost first appearing on the PC in 2011 and on the Xbox 360 in 2012, old school FPS Serious Sam 3: BFE lands on the PS3. He is joined by In Harm’s Way, the third episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 2.
And over on the Vita, Gearbox has brought Borderlands 2 to Sony’s handheld after winning more awards and releasing more downloadable content than any game in living memory on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It’s joined by Soul Sacrifice Delta, an enhanced version of Keiji Inafune’s action RPG.
More details on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

4A Games opens Malta office to continue work on Metro series
4A Games has been headquartered in Kiev, Ukraine since the company was founded in 2005. Today, the developer announced plans to open a second office in Malta, possibly due to Ukraine’s growing conflict with Russia over Crimea.
The Kiev branch of 4A will remain open, but Creative Director Andrew Prokhorov, Chief Technical Officer Oles Shishkovstov, and other members of the development team will move to Malta. The two offices will work together on 4A’s future projects including Metro Redux, a next-generation remake of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, and several unannounced projects. In a statement posted on their official website, 4A revealed that multiple Metro titles are in development, so we might also be hearing about Metro 3 before too long.
“This marks the start of a new chapter for 4A Games,” said Prokhorov. “We are proud of our achievements as a young studio, and humbled by the response to our output so far. The team is looking forward to this new adventure.”

Nordic confirms Darksiders III pre-production plans… still needs to find developer

Yesterday, Joe “Joe Mad” Madureira said that Nordic Games was hard at work on bringing the dormant Darksiders franchise back to life. And now, in a statement to Rock Paper Shotgun, the publisher has confirmed that pre-production work on Darksiders III has begun and that they’re actively searching for a development partner:
“With regards to Darksiders 3: of course we’ve always been busy in the background, talking to a lot of former team members about a continuation of the series, but we are not ready to announce anything officially. Joe Madureira is spot on in saying that DS is not dead and we are committed, though.”
“Before we can say something about the ‘how’ and ‘when’ of publishing/financing the sequel is concerned, we are still busy in properly figuring out the ‘who’ part of this large-scale project. All I can say is that we can and will not settle for second-best solutions in the case of Darksiders.”
The developer behind Darksiders and Darksiders II, Vigil Games was shuttered in the wake of THQ’s bankruptcy. However, most of Vigil’s employees later joined Crytek USA, a new team that has yet to announce their first project.
Hopefully someone can get those two crazy kids together to sit down for a nice chat.

MS drops Gold requirement for entertainment apps; Games With Gold coming to Xbox One
Microsoft has announced that, beginning in June, all entertainment apps (such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, and others) will not require an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Instead, the apps will be open to all Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners with an Internet connection.
The consolemaker will also expand their Games With Gold program to the Xbox One in June. Xbox One owners with Gold memberships will be able to download Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault for free during the month.
Microsoft also announced the Xbox 360’s Games With Gold for June and we’re all in for a treat: Dark Souls and Charlie Murder will be the free games for the month. As a bonus, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition will also be available to download for Gold subscribers.
My Xbox 360’s hard drive will be a lot less roomy by June 30.

Capy Games shows off “Sloooowww Motion” gameplay in Super Time Force launch trailer
Super Time Force will be available to download from the Xbox Live Game Store for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One this Wednesday, May 14. To celebrate, Capybara Games has released a launch trailer that shows off the game’s “Sloooowww Motion” gameplay.
Dan Vader, the Co-Designer, Level Designer, and Writer of Super Time Force, talked about the game’s unique design with the Xbox Wire: “We’ve never done anything this… ‘splodey before, but in some ways, it feels like the most ‘Capy’ game to me. It certainly bears our hallmarks: familiar mechanics taken in a far-out direction, beautifully stylized art, jokes, and barf.”
Super Time Force is a side-scrolling shooter that the developers at Capy like to refer to as “A Contra game where you can go back in time.” If that doesn’t sound awesome enough, then I guess “barf” is supposed to be the icing on the cake.

Darksiders creator says Nordic Games is “very committed to continuing series”

Comic book scribe Joe “Joe Mad” Madureira was the founder of Vigil Games and the creator of Darksiders. After THQ’s demise, Vigil reformed as Crytek USA and the rights to the Darksiders series were obtained by Nordic Games, but after the sale, no one was quite sure what would happen to the well-liked franchise as it seemed too big for a publisher like Nordic to handle. In a post on Facebook, Joe Mad says not to worry:
[Darksiders] is not dead!!! The new owner, Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series. As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon!!!!!!
While this isn’t confirmation of Darksiders III, it is proof that Nordic Games has no interest in letting the franchise languish. Hopefully we’ll learn more about the Four Horsemen’s continued fight to stop an accidental apocalypse soon.
And as a show of just how committed they are, Nordic even plans to release a Darksiders Collection for the PS3 and Xbox 360 next week.
