Weekly Warp-Up: VGX 2013 Aftermath Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
Yesterday, we were treated to the first annual VGX Awards. The awards formerly known as the Spike TV Video Game Awards dropped the “Spike TV” part because it wasn’t actually shown “live” on Spike TV. Instead, the world got a Cops marathon and had to watch the whole thing online (though a shortened recap will air on Spike TV next week). Oh, before I forget, Grand Theft Auto V took home “Game of the Year” honors.
This year’s “World Premiere” trailers weren’t too impressive, but we did get new/first looks at Tales From the Borderlands, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Quantum Break, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Broken Age, Thief, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Destiny, Telltale’s Game of Thrones, Tom Clancy’s The Division, No Man’s Sky, and TitanFall.
Also, the staff of Warp Zoned has uploaded our look back at What We Played in November 2013 and an overview of The Games of December 2013.
And! There was one bit of huge news revealed earlier this week as Bungie has confirmed that Destiny, the first game in their “New Universe,” will be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 9, 2014. Bungie previously owned the mid-September release slot with the Halo series, so Destiny’s release date could be a coincidence or it could be a preemptive strike against Microsoft and the 343 Industries-developed Halo 5.
If you’re not too busy with new trailers, there’s more news from the week that was after the break. (more…)

VGX 2013 Trailer: TitanFall

The inaugural VGX Awards closed with another look at 2014’s most anticipated game, TitanFall. Respawn Entertainment delivered a pair of trailers that showcased two previously unseen mech classes from the game.
The Ogre is a slow and awkward killing machine that will include a slew of powerful weapons. Meanwhile, the Stryder will be a fleet-footed mech that can outrun almost anything on the battlefield.
TitanFall will be released for the PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on March 11, 2014. Hit the break to view both trailers. (more…)
VGX 2013 Trailer: No Man’s Sky
The biggest surprise… scratch that, the ONLY surprise… of this year’s VGX Awards was the “World Premiere” trailer for Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky. Created by a four-person team within the Joe Danger devleoper, No Man’s Sky is a procedurally generated exploration that wants to give us the land… and the ocean… and the sky… and outer space… and the whole universe beyond. There’s first-person shooting and space battles and sand worms and it looks crazy ambitious and no one has any idea what platforms its in development for or when it’ll be released.
Hello Games, you have my attention.

VGX 2013 Trailer: Tom Clancy’s The Division
Are you awake enough on this Sunday morning for a bunch of techspeak? Then I give you the “World Premiere” trailer for Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s The Division. Focusing on the power of the game’s Snowdrop Engine, the trailer goes in-depth on the game’s lighting system, shaders, particle physics, realistic damage effects, and much more.
Tom Clancy’s The Division will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One towards the end of next year.
VGX 2013 Trailer: Game of Thrones
Wow, Telltale gets to play in everybody’s sandbox don’t they? After creating games based on beloved properties like The Walking Dead, Back to the Future, and Monkey Island, the company has moved on to develop their Fables adaptation, The Wolf Among Us, as well as the recently announced Tales From the Borderlands. And last night’s VGX Awards offered up one more Telltale surprise: a Game of Thrones adventure game, which will be based on the HBO series.
Game of Thrones: The Telltale Series is still extremely early in development, but you can expect to play the first episode in 2014.

VGX 2013 Trailer: Destiny
Earlier this week, we learned that Destiny would be making its debut on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 9, 2014. Yesterday, Bungie brought a “World Premiere” trailer of their next game to the 2013 VGX Awards for all to see. Naturally, the trailer is suitably epic (THE MUSIC!) and gives us a nice glimpse at what to expect for their “shared world shooter” next year.
VGX 2013 Trailer: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
“No man who meets The Hunt returns to this world.”
…And then a demon covered in spikes with a skull for a face just smiles at the camera. Your nightmares for the next two weeks have been brought to you by this “World Premiere” trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which has been brought to you by Keanu Reeves in 47 Ronin.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is in development at CD Projekt RED and will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One next year.
