New Releases: The Last of Us, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Dark

The E3 Expo begins this Tuesday (and several press conferences are scheduled to take place tomorrow), so the average gamer will likely be fairly distracted for the next few days. In response, game publishers have wisely avoided adding anything to the release calendar this week. So that makes it the perfect time for Nintendo, Naughty Dog, and Kalypso Media to release a few of this year’s most anticipated titles.
Starting things off, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the first game in the series to be released on the 3DS, is in stores today and is also available to download from the 3DS eShop.
Also available this week (on Friday, actually) is The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s first non-Nathan Drake game in nearly ten years. Gamers have been clamoring over each other for any new information about this PS3 post-apocalyptic title since it was first announced in 2011. Thankfully, the wait is almost over.
Finally, Kalypso Media will release Dark, an action RPG where players control a powerful vampire, for the PC. I’m not sure gamers are as hyped up for Dark as they are for Animal Crossing and The Last of Us, but it does look interesting.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Review: Mortal Kom-ics

It’s easy to think of Injustice: Gods Among Us as the next logical step after the two previous titles from NetherRealm Studios: 2008’s Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe and the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot. But Injustice is also more (and less) than the sum of its parts. It will be familiar to anyone who has played the Mortal Kombat reboot, but it also does new things that really tap into the “Gods Among Us” angle.
Twisted Pixel’s LocoCycle is coming to the Xbox One too
Twisted Pixel announced LocoCycle for the Xbox 360 during last year’s E3 Expo and the bits and pieces they’ve unveiled since have shown that the game will surely live up to its name. But things are about to get even more crazy because the developer just confirmed that LocoCycle will also be available for the Xbox One at launch.
LocoCycle on the Xbox One will “take advantage of the big jump in horsepower by running in full 1080p at a solid 60 frames per second in addition to countless other graphical improvements.”
Twisted Pixel has released a new trailer to go along with their new announcement and the developer also plans to present the Xbox One edition of the game at this year’s E3 Expo.
Square Enix to unveil “next-generation of Final Fantasy” at E3 2013

Square Enix is bringing the Final Fantasy franchise to this year’s E3 Expo in a big way. The publisher plans to have not just one or two, but four Final Fantasy games on display at the show. In addition to the three previously announced games (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster), Square Enix will unveil a first look at “the next-generation” of the franchise. Square Enix executives have previously hinted that this new game may be connected to Agni’s Philosophy, the technical demo they presented at last year’s E3 Expo.
In addition to a quartet of Final Fantasy titles, Square Enix will also show off a few of their co-productions with western developers including Murdered: Soul Suspect, Thief, Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut, and Deus Ex: The Fall. Rounding out Square Enix’s E3 offerings is Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix, a PS3 exclusive set to release this September.
More details on all of these titles can be found after the break and be sure to check out the Square Enix Presents YouTube Channel next week for a ton of Square Enix videos from the show floor. (more…)

Lebron James has been crowned king of NBA 2K14’s cover
Lebron James and his Miami Heat are currently battling Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. The Heat lost the first game, but King James will surely come back in game two.
If not, at least he can take solace in his selection as the cover athlete for NBA 2K14.
Believe it or not, this is the first time Lebron James has appeared on the cover of a video game. He will also lend his likeness to the King James Bonus Pack, a special pre-order package for players who pre-order the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of the game. The King James Bonus Pack will include:
- 10,000 Virtual Currency to get a jump start on the competition;
- Extra content for the new Path to Greatness mode;
- LeBron James unlocked in Blacktop Mode;
- The all-new LeBron James Signature Skill available for your MyPlayer.
“My friends, family, and fans all know how much I love NBA 2K. I remember, as a kid, getting so excited for the game to come out and see who was on the cover and it’s amazing to be a part of this great tradition,” said James.
NBA 2K14 will be available for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 1 (sorry Wii U owners). The game will also be available for the PS4 and Xbox One during each system’s launch.
Wolfenstein: The New Order sieg heils the Moon in this E3 2013 trailer
History took a detour after the Germans developed the atomic bomb first in the alternate universe of Wolfenstein: The New Order. New York City was bombed and the Statue of Liberty is no more. The only people crossing Abbey Road are German soldiers. Nazi flags hang from the U.S. Capitol and another has been planted on the Moon.
Thankfully, B.J. Blazkowicz is still around to set the world right and he’s ready to take on the Nazi war machine (which includes mechs and laser rifles, among other things) single-handed. You can get a glimpse at his battle for the first time in the game’s newly released E3 2013 trailer above.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is in development at MachineGames and will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this Fall.
Scorpion will be available to download in Injustice on June 11
NetherRealm Studios has announced that Mortal Komabt‘s Scorpion will be added to Injustice: Gods Among Us as a DLC character on June 11. As with the previous DLC characters, he has been priced at $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points) on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. There’s no still word on when Injustice’s DLC will be available for the Wii U, but NetherRealm expects to release it for Nintendo’s console sometime this Summer.
To celebrate Scorpion’s impending availability, check out the newly released video above featuring DC Entertainment’s Jim Lee and NetherRealm’s Ed Boon discussing the masked ninja’s addition to Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Activision is bringing CoD: Ghosts, Destiny, Skylanders Swap Force to E3 2013

Activision has unveiled their E3 2013 lineup and, unlike past years, it is not an unwieldy behemoth that seems to go forever. The biggest third-party publisher is going laser-focused for this year’s expo and focusing on three titles: Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, Bungie’s Destiny, and the third game in their mega-popular Skylanders series, Skylanders Swap Force.
And speaking of Skylanders Swap Force, Activision also confirmed that the game will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One (because, of course it is) and that the 3DS, PS3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360 versions will be available on October 13.
More details on all three of these titles can be found after the break. (more…)
