THQ plans to sell off Darksiders, Red Faction, Homeworld, more in May

The THQ sell-off will continue this Spring as the publisher has announced that four major franchises will go up for auction as well as two compilations of lesser franchises.
Darksiders (which went unsold at the initial THQ auction), Red Faction, Homeworld, and the MX racing franchise have all been put on the block by THQ. The company will also sell the rights to a package of original properties (including Big Beach Sports, Destroy All Humans!, Summomner, and others) and a package of licensed games (Marvel Super Hero, Supreme Commander, Worms, and others). A new owner for each franchise will be chosen sometime in May.
If you’ve ever wanted to own a formerly top-selling video game franchise, you should get in touch with THQ by emailing them at auction@thq.com by April 1. But be aware, you’ll be expected to show proof of funds in case your bid is selected by the creditors committee.
Of course, how much could something like Destroy All Humans! (which, admittedly, I love) actually go for?

PSN Today: Star Wars Pinball, Uncharted 3, Skyrim: Dawnguard, Persona 2, more
It’s another big day for the PSN as a treasure trove of new games and add-ons are now available on the PlayStation Store. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Leading off the week is the “Star Wars Pinball” add-on for Zen Pinball 2. The collection includes three tables: one starring everyone’s favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett; one based on The Empire Strikes Back; and one based on the Clone Wars cartoon.
Also available this week is the Game of the Year Edition of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, as well as Uncharted 3 Multiplayer, a standalone download of Uncharted 3’s multiplayer mode. The free-to-play version caps your progress at Level 15, but a paid version allows you to rack up as many levels as you can.
Let’s see, what else… There’s the classic RPG Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, that’s available in the PSone Classic section. And speaking of classic RPGs, the “Dawnguard” expansion is now available for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
And that’s not all. There’s even more PlayStation Store additions after the break and a complete list of this week’s new game add-ons at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

God of War: Ascension launch trailer shows a kinder, gentler Kratos
Even though God of War: Ascension‘s release is still two weeks away, Sony has uploaded a launch trailer that shows a softer side of the Ghost of Sparta. Kratos kisses his daughter and hugs his wife in the opening frames of the trailer above and then he skips through a meadow, picks a few daisies, and laughs with a friend over a nice pot of tea.
Nah… Actually he guts a variety of beasties in the way that only he can! Though his daughter really does get a kiss.
God of War: Ascension will be available exclusively for the PS3 on March 12, but if you’re itching to give it a shot, the single-player demo can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store beginning today.

Rumor: Yo Ho, Yo Ho… a pirate’s life for Assassin’s Creed IV

Get out your pegleg and your gangplank and your Jolly Roger as Ubisoft’s next game in the Assassin’s Creed series will take place on the high seas… if a Kotaku tipster is to be believed.
According to the source, the pirate-themed game will be known as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and a marketing poster promoting the game (posted by Kotaku) is said to appear in stores on March 4.
Ubisoft has previously confirmed that the next Assassin’s Creed game starring “a new hero in a new time period” will be released in late 2013 or early 2014.

All 12 of Sony’s internal studios are working on PS4 games

Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony Worldwide Studios, has been talking to everybody since the PlayStation 4 was unveiled last week. And in a recent conversation with IGN, the executive confirmed that every Sony Computer Entertainment studio is working on at least one PS4 game:
IGN: “Is it fair to say that all of the first party studios are working on PS4 games?”
Yoshida: “Is it fair or not fair? It is fair to say.”
Thanks to the PlayStation Meeting 2013, we know that Media Molecule is busy sculpting clay figures and that Guerrilla Games (Killzone: Shadow Fall), Sucker Punch (InFamous: Second Son), Evolution Studios (DriveClub), and Sony Japan Studio (Knack) will have something ready for the system’s launch or soon after.
This news means that Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 6 is likely a PS4 game and Naughty Dog is surely hard at work on Uncharted 4, but what are Guerrilla Cambridge, Sony Bend, Sony London Studio, Sony San Diego Studio, and Sony Santa Monica Studio up to?

Respawn Entertainment will be attending E3 2013
Jason West and Vince Zampella left Infinity Ward in March 2010 amidst a flurry of controversy and formed Respawn Entertainment less than a month later. A little over a month after that, they teamed up with Electronic Arts and began work on their first game, a sci-fi shooter. After three years of development, it looks like we’ll finally get to see their handiwork at this year’s E3 Expo:
I’ve gotten a ‘few’ questions about @e3expo plans this year. Yes, we will finally be at E3!
— Vince Zampella (@VinceZampella) February 25, 2013
And lest you think Zampella will just be walking the show floor, he has no plans to appear at E3 empty handed:
I have no intention of showing up empty handed! I can’t say anything else right now.
