Rumor: Xbox 720/Durango reveal scheduled for April
That didn’t take long. CVG is reporting that they’ve heard from “inside sources” within the development community and the word is that Microsoft will unveil their next-generation system, the Xbox 720/Durango, at a one-night-only media event in April.
Lending further credence to these sources, a poster on NeoGAF has unearthed a domain registration for XboxEvent.com. The domain was registered by Eventcore, an event management company that lists Microsoft among its clients.
If true, it’s great that we’ll learn more about the next Xbox sooner rather than later. But what happened to the specialness of E3? Does anyone else miss when E3 was special? Because I sure do.
First Penny Arcade 4 battle screenshots include helpful monsters and more
The development of Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4 is coming along nicely at Zeboyd Games and the duo believes the project is far enough along to release a few screenshots showing off the new battle system (you can see them for yourself after the break).
Zeboyd is trying something a bit different with Penny Arcade 4. They’ve decided to ditch the Class system and replace it with a monster recruiting/training mode instead. And two of the monsters you’ll be able to recruit are the refined gentlemen monsters, Twisp and Catsby!
After they’ve agreed to join your team, monsters can be assigned a human trainer, which will affect how their stats level up. A new “Analyze” feature will also be added to your bag of holding, which will allow the Startling Developments Detective Agency a chance to pre-select which team members would be best to send into battle against a group of evil monsters.
Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4 will be on display at this year’s PAX East show (March 22-24) and will be available in the Spring on PC download services and the Xbox Live Indie Games channel. (more…)

PS4 Trailer: Killzone: Shadow Fall
It’s an entirely different world in Killzone: Shadow Fall. The Helghast and the Vektans share a single world, but are trapped in a harsh cold war with a wall separating the majestic Vektan City:
Set thirty years after the events of the Killzone trilogy, the world of Killzone Shadow Fall is a very different place. Forced together by circumstance, the two rival factions of the Helghast and the Vektans live side by side in a futuristic city, divided by a vast wall.
Tensions are high, and a war can spark at any moment. In the midst of this all stands a Shadow Marshall, the most special of the special forces, tasked with maintaining the delicate balance.
We don’t know when Killzone: Shadow Fall will be available, but Guerrilla Games expects 2013 to be one of their biggest years ever. So here’s hoping it’s a launch game.

PS4 Trailer: DriveClub
Evolution Studios wants to take “car porn” to the next level with DriveClub, their team-based first-person racing game for the PlayStation 4.
Evolution has promised that DriveClub will include visual details that are “borderline insane” including individually rendered carbon fiber panels and leather seats on the cars.
Yup, sounds pretty insane.

PS4 Trailer: Knack
Knack was one of the most visually interesting games unveiled during last night’s PlayStation 4 reveal (it’s cartoony look certainly helped). The game is being directed by Mark Cerny, video game royalty who has had a hand in games starring Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, and Ratchet & Clank. So it’s safe to say the man knows his way around a platformer.
In fact, the man said it himself, “I’m hoping that we can make something that excites those that played the classic games back in the day, as well as something that attracts new fans to the genre.”
In Knack, a tiny robot uses the ability to change his size and shape, by absorbing or discarding scads of other tiny robots, to battle an army of goblins. It’s in development at Sony Japan Studio and may or may not be a PS4 launch title.

Nintendo Download: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate demo, F-Zero, Etrian Odyssey IV, more

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be available for the 3DS and Wii U on March 19, but you can download a demo from the Nintendo eShop beginning today! If monster-slaying isn’t your thing, two other demos, Trine 2: Director’s Cut on the Wii U eShop and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on the 3DS eShop, are now available.
Wii U gamers will also get a chance into the past this week with F-Zero. The Super NES classic has been priced at 30 cents for a limited time, so if Captain Falcon stirs fond memories in your Nintendo thumb, now’s the time to buy.
Finally this week, we have a quartet of 3DS game downloads…
- Picdun 2: Witch’s Curse is a dungeon-crawling RPG from developer Intense.
- Viking Invasion 2 is a tower defense game with vikings.
- Yoshi is the NES puzzle game, re-released for the 3DS’ Virtual Console.
- And Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan is the latest RPG from Atlus. It’ll be available on Tuesday, February 26.
More information on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

PS4 Trailer: InFamous: Second Son
Cole MacGrath’s story ended with InFamous 2, but Sucker Punch isn’t finished with their superhuman world yet. Promising “a new character, new city, new powers, and all designed especially for the new PlayStation 4,” InFamous: Second Son is sure to electrify the newly announced PS4:
Surrounded by a society that fears them, superhumans are ruthlessly hunted down and caged by the Department of Unified Protection. When Delsin Rowe discovers his powers he’s forced to run, searching for other superhumans in order to save those he loves from the oppressive D.U.P. now hot on his tail. The choices he makes along the way change the future of everyone around him.

IGN plans to shutdown 1UP, GameSpy, UGO

Wow. We don’t normally discuss the business dealings of other websites here at Warp Zoned, but this is too big to pass up. An internal memo from Ziff Davis CEO Vivek Shah has confirmed that 1UP, GameSpy, and UGO are not long for this world.
Ziff Davis purchased IGN Entertainment and all of their affiliated websites earlier this month and now they’ve decided to clean house. Ziff Davis wants to “Simplify and Focus” the IGN brand, which will result in “Winding down 1UP.com, UGO.com and GameSpy.com” and the closure of the IGN Pro League.
Some 1UP, GameSpy, and UGO employees will be transferred to IGN while the remaining employees will be laid off. IGN will offer some kind of service to help these employees as Shah said, “[L]et’s do what we can to help these employees as they seek new opportunities.”
It’s currently unknown when all of these changes and closures will occur, but we wish everyone affected by this situation the best of luck in finding a new job.
