Daily Scoop: October 2, 2013 – Fun times with Humble Bundles
Happy Wednesday! I keep thinking it’s Tuesday, which is bad, because I thought all day yesterday was Monday, and I feel like I’ve lost a day somewhere. It’s good because I’m closer to the weekend than I thought, but bad because I’m a day behind in my after-work activities!
Let’s talk about deals, shall we? Specifically, let’s discuss the latest Humble Bundle, which is the Humble Mobile Bundle 2. It started with Star Command, Time Surfer, Punch Quest, and Bloons TD 5, with Ravensword: Shadowlands and Carmegeddon unlockable if you paid more than the average. But today, they’ve added three more games if you pay more than the average: Karateka Classic (with digital copy of the book Making of Karateka), QWOP, and God of Blades. You’ve got less than a week left, so scoop it up!
Check out today’s t-shirt round up! (more…)

Check out the Crossed Purposes podcast, featuring Warp Zoned’s Nicole Kline
Good morning, Internet! I’ve been doing a weekly podcast with one of our former writers, Joshua Wise, and our friend, Ian Riley, over at Crossed Purposes. It’s called No Avatars Allowed, and it’s a good one! We discuss what we’ve been playing, the news (especially our reactions to the Steam announcements last week), and brand loyalty. Things get pretty intense when Josh starts talking about Sega and Yakuza. You won’t want to miss it!
You can listen to the episode here. At the very least, you can hear me use a lot of expletives, and discretely eat Chinese food, while Josh and Ian rave about how great Steam is.

Daily Scoop: September 30, 2013 – GOG sale countdown
Whew, what a great weekend that was! The finale of Breaking Bad was amazing, and I played a ton of video games as well as other games – you know, the ones you don’t need a controller for. As always, though, the weekend flew by too quickly, and here we are again at yet another Monday.
But hey! At least you still have a few hours to get in on this GOG sale, where you can get VVVVVV, The Adventures of Shuggy, Gateways, Time Gentleman, Please! + Ben There, Done That, and Escape Goat, all for just $5.
Other than that, Amazon is still having their great sale on Xbox 360 consoles, so if you’ve been waiting to get one on the cheap, now is your chance.
As always, I’ve got some great t-shirts for you to check out! (more…)

Daily Scoop: September 27, 2013 – Death Road to Canada
Hey everyone! It’s a gorgeous Friday, and a reminder that the weekend starts in just a few short hours. Speaking of reminders, you only have two more hours to back Death Road to Canada on Kickstarter! And if you’re one of those people who hates kicking video games because of the long wait, I have good news for you: it’s coming out in November! That’s so close!
Already kicked the game? Then take some time to go check out our interview with Kepa Auwae, the Lead Designer at Rocketcat Games. Or, you know. Just add more money to your pledge. Whichever! (You know you need a kitten that will eat all of your food.)
If you want to check out the new Beyond: Two Souls demo, you’re going to have to go to GameStop’s Facebook page and sign up. It’s first come, first served, but there might be a few codes left. I strongly suggest you check it out!
Other than that, all I’ve got are t-shirts! (more…)

Daily Scoop: September 26, 2013 – Gotta Hatch ‘Em All
I didn’t think I could be more excited about Pokemon X and Y, but that changed this morning when I visited Serebii.net. They made two announcements yesterday – one was a new Pokemon, a cool-looking Steel/Ghost type named Doublade. But the amazing news is this gorgeous gold 3DS XL which comes pre-loaded with X or Y, unlike the other 3DS XL that came out last week (which we will never speak of again because who releases a special 3DS without the darn game?).
The sad news is that this 3DS XL will only be available at Pokemon Centers in Japan and on Amazon, which I’m assuming means Amazon.jp, which makes me a sad panda. Oh well – I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
There’s a new Humble Bundle available right now – it’s the Humble Mobile Bundle 2, which includes Star Command, Time Surfer, and Punch Quest. Scoop it up!
Again, I’ve got tons of great shirts for you! (more…)

Daily Scoop: September 25, 2013 – BioShock Deals
Good morning – and what a beautiful morning it is here in Philadelphia! This fall has started off beautifully. I love spending cool evenings playing video games, huddled up with a blanket and some warm snacks. What could be better?
There are a few good deals over at Amazon today. You can get Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan for $27.72, and quite a few Xbox 360 consoles are on sale. The Xbox 360 250GB Spring Value Bundle, Xbox 360 4GB Console with Kinect Nike+ Bundle, Xbox 360 E 4GB Console with Kinect Sensor, and Xbox 360 E 250GB Console are all $249, and each one comes with $50 in promotional credit as well. That’s some serious incentive!
They’re also having some amazing deals on the BioShock series as well. The PC downloads are super cheap, starting with the BioShock Triple Pack for $19.99. If you’ve already got the third game and just want the first two, then pick up the BioShock Dual Pack for $4.99. If you just need individual ones, BioShock and BioShock 2 are $9.99, while BioShock Infinite is $19.99.
Finally, if you’re looking for a sweet deal on indie games, head on over to GOG.com’s Super 5 Promo, which includes VVVVVV – worth it for the $5 alone. And seriously, don’t forget about Humble Bundle 9, which ends today!
Time for some great t-shirts to tempt your wallet! (more…)

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Hands-On Preview: We’re Not on Gran Pulse Anymore

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII was quietly available to play on the show floor at PAX Prime 2013. There wasn’t a crowd around it – I didn’t even have to make an appointment or wait in a line to try it. The people who were playing it were completely engrossed, but it was a – not surprisingly – small number. With the linearity of the first Final Fantasy XIII, many fans were put off of the “Fabula Nova Crystallis” series (comprised of Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XV, and Final Fantasy Agito). XIII-2 brought in a time travel element that changed a few things about how the first game worked, but not enough to reclaim fans. Lightning Returns, while it still continues to feel like a game in the XIII world, has taken some steps to make it stand out – and also has Lightning in it, which is a major added bonus. (more…)
