Daily Scoop: April 2, 2013 – No deals

Well, we survived April Fool’s Day! And without a scratch. I spent the evening playing more BioShock Infinite and then headed to my boyfriend Anthony’s to hang out and watch “Futurama.” It’s an exciting life I lead, for certain.

No deals today! Sorry, folks. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any sweet t-shirts! Because there are! (more…)

Daily Scoop: April 1, 2013 – April Fool’s Day

I usually dread April Fool’s Day, because I feel like I spend most of the day trying to explain to people that they should stop freaking out over things they read on the Internet because they aren’t true. But today has actually been filled with some fun tricks! Think Geek always has the best stuff, like this Adventure Time BMO Interactive Buddy. I would love to have a living boy to play video games with! But the winner of the day is Cards Against Humanity, for their great new customer support hotline. Call them at (312) 756-0834. You won’t regret it.

Amazon has a bunch of video games deals going on today. Airline Tycoon 2 is $3.54, Hitman Trilogy HD is $24.99, SBK X is $9.45, and Tron: Evolution is $13.09. Scoop ’em up!

Check out today’s shirts! (more…)

Daily Scoop: March 29, 2013 – Bye bye, March

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb and all that jazz, or so the saying goes. Right now, temperatures are pretty mild, and it’s even making me consider opening my windows when I get home. But I feel like it’s a trap! Either way, it doesn’t matter, because it’s Friday. Woo!

No good deals going on today, which is a good thing. I mean, we just got back from PAX East, and there’s so much great stuff coming out that I don’t even want to look at deals for old games (even if Dishonored is only $29.99 on Amazon right now). I will not give in! I’m still working on Dead Space 3, and Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and I haven’t even opened BioShock: Infinite yet. Cut me a break, people! My backlog right now is all brand new games.

…I could have worse problems.

Anyway, what I do have is some great new t-shirts for you to check out. Buy ’em all! (more…)

Daily Scoop: March 28, 2013 – Adventures in apartment-hunting

So, my boyfriend Anthony and I have been trying to find an apartment, and it’s been a real adventure. We saw lots of places online, but today we saw our first place in-person, and it was a real doozy. Crappy apartments: 1; Nicole and Anthony: 0. The game’s not over yet, folks!

No good deals today, but you might be interested in what’s up at Amazon’s Pre-order Central. They have some good bonuses, like a bunch of stuff with Defiance (exclusive Plague Bringer, beta invite, Outlander outfit, “Iron Demon” in-game title, 3-day XP boost and Dodge Challenger), a bonus figure and power disc with the Disney Infinity Wii Starter Pack, $10 credit and the exclusive Headstart Pack with GRID 2, and $10 Amazon instant video credit as well as the Sights and Sounds Pack with The Last of Us. The Last of Us Hands-On Preview: Tension and Fear Win the Day

thelastofus-header

I wasn’t sure what to think when I first saw trailers for The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s first non-Nathan Drake game in six years. It certainly looked like a Naughty Dog game, with the same style and graphics, but this was set in a post-apocalyptic world, one in which humans had been infected by a strange fungus, which left the victims zombified. The remaining survivors of humanity lived in terror in a wasteland. While the Uncharted games had dabbled in science fiction (remember those crazy mutants from the second game?), this was the studio’s first real deviation from reality. I was doubtful that they could pull it off, mainly because the market is so saturated with these types of games, and in the end, not many of them are that great. But from what I saw in the half hour demo at PAX East this past weekend, Naughty Dog just might succeed. (more…)

Daily Scoop: March 27, 2013 – Still missing PAX East

I’m entering the post-PAX East depression phase, where I realize just how far the next one really is. Well, I mean, there’s always PAX AUS, but do you have any idea how much money it costs to get to Australia? I’ll give you a hint: it’s a freaking lot of money.

PAX East flew by like a whirlwind! It felt like one long day – everything just blurred into everything else. We have some great interviews and hands-on previews to share with all of you! I wish I’d had more time to see everything, but three days that feel like one day just isn’t enough time to get it all done.

The Last of Us scares us to death at PAX East

thelastofus-boxThe Warp Zoned crew is at PAX East, and the first thing we did was head straight for The Last of Us and give the 30-minute demo a go. We played as Joel, protecting Ellie and Tess as they try to make their way through the downtown of a destroyed city. I spent a lot of time wandering, picking up med kits, ammo, and notes. I also picked up a bottle and a brick, later throwing them to distract the infected from tearing my neck off.

It feels a lot like the Uncharted games – obviously – but with a metric ton of tension that left me shaking afterwards. The buildings you make your way through are crumbling, giving it more of that Naughty Dog feeling. The graphics are amazing, the sound is engrossing and terrifying, and the action is top notch. The only bad thing so far? You can’t jump.

Stay tuned for more from the show floor as we play more games!
