Daily Scoop: April 16, 2013 – Back to reality
I went to MEPACon this weekend and played a buttload of Dungeons and Dragons! It was a good time, but I’m glad to be back to regular life, regular food, and regular sleep. Not that I didn’t appreciate three solid days of role playing, but after a while, everybody needs some sleep, am I right?
I’m super excited about the release of Pandora’s Tower today! I hope I can make some decent progress in Dead Space 3 before the Wii game takes over my entire life. And everyone keeps telling me to get Defiance and Injustice: Gods Among Us. Aieeee!
If you’re looking for some good deals, Amazon has Asura’s Wrath on sale for $17.64, which is 65% off the retail price. Scoop it up!
If you’re looking for t-shirts, you won’t be disappointed! (more…)

Daily Scoop: April 10, 2013 – Just shirts today
Hey everyone! It’s a super quiet day for deals, so all I’ve got for you is t-shirts. I know, I know – you’re so bummed out! Look at it this way: more time to play the backlog you actually have instead of adding to your backlog. You silly!
I guess I could tell you to go check out this week’s Humble Weekly Bundle, which features Blendo Games. You can get Flotilla, Atom Zombie Smasher, Air Forte, and Thirty Flights of Loving, all if you pay over the current average (which is $3.74 right now). Scoop ’em up!
And now: the shirts! (more…)

BioShock Infinite Review: Not Even the Sky Can Limit it

BioShock Infinite is the third installment in the Irrational Games series which started underwater in the city of Rapture and is now high in the clouds in Columbia. After several delays and a plethora of gameplay videos, the game was finally released on March 26. The mysterious story and characters had been paraded before the public, and fans and newcomers alike were ready to take on the city in the sky. There was a lot of pressure on Ken Levine and his team – would they be able to make a game that could live up to the BioShock name? (more…)
Daily Scoop: April 9, 2013 – Come play board games!
Tonight is the weekly board game night over at Redcap’s Corner in Philadelphia, and we’ll be there! We brought Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster, a great Kickstarted game, as well as the crazy fun game Bodger Mania. And there are tons and tons of games in their case, so there’s plenty to play! Stop on by and hang out.
Not too many deals today, other than some of the discounted items over at Amazon in their Spring Outlet Deals. Battlefield 3 Premium Edition is $39.99, The Darkness II is $14.99, Madden NFL 13 is $31.87, and the PC version of Medal of Honor Warfighter is only $17.46. Oh, and if you buy Battlefield 3 and pre-order Battlefield 4, you save $25, so effectively Battlefield 3 is really $14.99 if you do that. So… tempting…

Daily Scoop: April 8, 2013 – Regularly scheduled programming
Well hello, friends! I apologize for my absence – I have been very busy lately. Not that it’s gotten any less busy, but at least I can catch my breath! The good news is that I think Anthony and I have found the apartment we’re going to be moving into. The bad news is that it means we’re going to have to start the process of moving! I’ve been in my place for the last six years, so I am not looking forward to it. But I’m excited about having a new place with him! Woo!
Let’s see, what are the deals going on today? Amazon’s got Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Dead Space 3 on sale for $39.99 each. Dishonored is $29.99, the Forza Horizon Limited Edition is $49.41, and you can also get Tomb Raider on sale for $45.99 (or the Tomb Raider Survival/Collector’s Edition for $75.99.

Dead Island: Riptide Hands-On Preview: Wasting Away in Zombieville

Dead Island: Riptide is a sequel to Dead Island, which was released to middling reviews and disappointment after a strong advertising campaign in 2011. Deep Silver’s marketing for the sequel has already stirred up controversy with their plan to include a “bloody torso” statue in the UK special edition. The game itself will be out this month, and was playable on the show floor at PAX East. The developers were showing off a cooperative mode, allowing you to work together with other players to fortify an area and keep the zombies out. But between collision issues, terrible graphics, and hysterical ragdoll phyics, the game was a jumbled mess. (more…)

Daily Scoop: April 3, 2013 – Super Dungeon Explorer
Last night was board game night at our local game store, and we ended up playing Super Dungeon Explorer with some friends. Our friend Josh had picked up the latest expansion at PAX East, and we were all eager to try it out. The new characters are amazing, especially the one based around Simon Belmont. I mean really, just look at these minis. Too cute!
Not too many deals going on today, but if you’re really going to press me for something, I would have to say it would be the PS3 250GB Amazon Exclusive Family Entertainment Bundle. It includes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, a controller, and a remote control.
It’s currently marked down to $249.99 from $399.99, which is a great deal. Scoop it up! Got a few t-shirts as well: (more…)

Watch Dogs PAX East Impressions: Hack the Planet, or Maybe Just Chicago

Ubisoft didn’t have Watch Dogs playable on the show floor at PAX East, but the game still had an enormous presence. The publisher showed a special behind-closed-doors presentation of the game, which included a special Watch Dogs lanyard as a giveaway (and if you were wearing it on the show floor, you may have gotten a surprise visit from a Frag Doll with a free t-shirt). I would have much preferred being able to play the game myself, but what I saw on the screen was a somewhat impressive, if disappointingly short, display of the capabilities of main character Aiden Pearce.
