Daily Scoop: June 14, 2012 – Shopping Kart
It’s another gorgeous day here, and I couldn’t be more grateful. We never really get spring or fall here in Philadelphia, so having these beautiful days in June is wonderful! Even after playing D&D last night and getting killed in the second round – no, like really killed, I went from five hit points to negative bloodied in one hit – it’s still a lovely day.
So, deals! What’s up for today? Well, Buy.com has what they refer to as “Killer Gaming Deals,” but these aren’t so great – the first one is Resistance 3 for $26.99, but that’s $19.99 on Amazon, and you can even get the Doomsday Edition there for $103.16. Stop being so lame, Buy.com!
In other news, there are two shirts for gamers today: (more…)

Daily Scoop: June 13, 2012 – Another great t-shirt day
Hello hello, faithful friends! It’s a beautiful Wednesday here in Philadelphia. We had quite a storm yesterday, and it appears to have done its job and lowered the temperature. I can’t recall a June this lovely!
Anyway, what scoops have I got for you today? Not much, I’m afraid. There aren’t too many sales going on, other than Amazon’s Dads and Grads deals. Get Battlefield 3 for $36.99, Starcraft II for $39.99, or the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for $29.99, among many others. They’ve also got a page dedicated to E3 pre-orders, which is pretty interesting. Can Dead Space 3 be at my door yet?

Daily Scoop: June 12, 2012 – In which I explain my absence
My apologies for disappearing for the last few weeks, everyone. My dear friend Bailey Adams passed away suddenly, and life has been very sad and strange. I was on vacation for a week and a half shortly after that, and now I’m getting back into my daily routine. So, without further ado, welcome back to the Daily Scoop.
Amazon’s got a pretty good downloadable deal this week – Risen is on sale for just $5.99. They’ve got a few other deals as well – you can get Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 for $39.99 on PS3 or Xbox 360, Star Wars: The Old Republic for $19.99 on PC, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm for $19.57 on PC, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning for $39.99 on PS3 and Xbox 360, and just $9.99 for Bethesda’s Rage on all three platforms.
You might also be interested in this sweet sale on Nintendo DS games and stuff. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is $15.23, Bakugan Battle Brawlers is $7.92, and WarioWare D.I.Y. is $17.42. Check it out!

Diablo III Review: Welcome Back to Tristram

It was a long time coming, but the mythical day finally arrived: Diablo III was released on May 15 to much fanfare. Over the ensuing weeks, I’ve poured less time than I wanted to into the game, deterred by my inability to sign into the servers and play the game. You must be online at all times and signed into Battle.net in order to play, so when servers crash, even your solo campaign is brought to a grinding halt. In spite of the constant server maintenance, annoying lag, and abrupt changes made to gameplay, I still had plenty of fun. But the question remains: was Diablo III worth the long wait? (more…)

$99 subscription-based Xbox 360 console moves to Best Buy, GameStop this month
Are you the only other person in the United States other than me who doesn’t have an Xbox 360? Well, you’re probably about to be $99 poorer. Major Nelson announced on his blog that the $99 4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect and two-year subscription service is coming to all Best Buys and select GameStop stores later this month.
The two-year subscription service is $14.99 a month for 24 months of Xbox Live. This comes out to nearly $360. Coincidence?!?!
In all seriousness, this pilot program (an expansion of the original Microsoft Store-only promotion) is a huge deal for Microsoft. This might just be the year I actually buy an Xbox.
Sound Shapes coming to PS3, Vita on August 7
Sound Shapes, the musical side-scrolling platformer by Canadian studio Queasy Games, will be coming to both PlayStation 3 and Vita on August 7. Sony made this announcement on the PlayStation Blog. Superbrothers and Jim Guthrie have provided the music and artwork for one of the levels, called Corporeal. In fact, the adorable video above shows Guthrie playing the game and using the editor, creating a level right on the spot.
The beauty of releasing this for both systems on the same day is that there will be crossplay availability from the get-go. As Mathew Kumar so elegantly wrote:
Through the magic of crossplay, you’ll be able to share content between the two systems without even having to really think about it. It’s all thanks to the “cloud” which floats above us like a benevolent data god. Save your campaign data up in the cloud, and download and resume on either platform. Maybe you’ll start creating a song at home on the PS3, but then decide that it’s not really the place to compose your latest masterpiece! Just download it to your PS Vita and make some beats on the bus. Then get off the bus several stops late, in a part of town you don’t know that well, and make some beats there! Then get another bus home, probably.
I’ve been on those buses, Mathew.

Scribblenauts Unlimited coming to 3DS, PC, Wii U
Warner Bros. and 5th Cell are expanding Maxwell’s horizons yet again, bringing him to the 3DS, PC, and Wii U with Scribblenauts Unlimited this holiday season. We’ll finally be learning more about Maxwell’s background as well – not only do we get to find out how he got his magical notepad, but we’ll also get the skinny on his parents and twin sister, Lily.
The PC and Wii U versions will also include an Object Editor, allowing players to make and share creations online. All objects – shared and summoned in the game – can be stored in your “magic backpack.” Jeremiah Slaczka, C.E.O. and Creative Director of 5th Cell, said, “With new gameplay modes and features, Scribblenauts Unlimited sets no limits on how players can use their imagination. The game breaks the franchise’s previously set boundaries and allows for unlimited creativity.”
This sounds promising. Even though I never finished the first one, I’m ready to put my Maxwell hat back on and jump into another creative adventure with him.
Atlus and ACE Team are bringing Zeno Clash II to PC, PS3, Xbox 360 in 2013
Atlus has been busy, it seems – the publisher announced that it will be teaming up with ACE Team to release Zeno Clash II in early 2013 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The first game was an indie first-person brawler, and the sequel is going to tie in RPG elements in a vast open-world setting to make it bigger than the original.
The game will also feature drop-in/drop-out online co-op, allowing players to team Ghat up with his sister, Rimat. Andres Bordeu, co-founder of ACE Team, had this to say:
“The world of Zenozoik is one of wild dreams and wilder nightmares. This is part of the reason we are working on Zeno Clash II, to give players the opportunity to explore Zenozoik with a friend via online cooperative multiplayer, turning those moments of wonder and awe into a shared adventure. We will make certain that going back and forth between solo and cooperative play preserves the consistency and impact of the narrative experience, while still allowing friends easily drop in and out of the game’s fulfilling exploration and visceral melee combat.”
