Asura’s Wrath Hands-On Preview: A Frenetic, Fun Experience

Asura’s Wrath is the latest game from Capcom and developer CyberConnect2. This absurdly over-the-top action game features everything from intense Quick Time Events to anime-esque “commercial break” loading screens. The frenetic action, varying gameplay elements, and extreme cinema scenes combine together to make something that, while it’s not unique, is still fun. Be sure to get a bag of ice ready, though, because you’re going to have what I like to refer to as “God of War elbow” in no time. (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 12, 2012 – All’s Quiet on the Thursday Front

Not much of anything going on today, except for a smattering of rain on and off! It’s a quiet, boring day, and I’m kind of hoping it stays that way. I’ve been gaming a lot lately, and I could use another quiet night of gaming and kitties and something warm in my tummy…

The only deal I’ve got for you today is Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games, which is Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. It’s just $17.99 today, but chances are, if you’re a fan of the series, you’ve already got this one. But just in case you were waiting for it to go on sale, well – today’s your lucky day!

There aren’t even any good video game-related t-shirts for sale today. I mean, seriously, the Internet is quiet. The only thing I’ve been hearing about is this whole Girl Scout cookie boycott thing, about the people up in arms because the Girl Scouts let a transgender kid join their ranks. All these stories have done is make me really want some Girl Scout cookies…

Catball Eats It All Review: A Purr-fect Game on the Go

The iOS marketplace is full of crazy games, and I haven’t even come close to scratching the surface. But there’s one game I’ve discovered that fulfills almost every single thing I love about video games: it’s fun, it’s cute, it’s addictive, it’s smooth, and most of all, it works. That game is called Catball Eats it All, and it’s available for the iPad and iPod Touch. Imagine if you married Katamari with LocoRoco and plopped it down on the iPad. That’s the adorable union you’ve got with Catball. (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 11, 2012 – Hooray for Humpday

Whew, it’s Wednesday at last, which means we’re halfway through the week. I couldn’t be happier! And I’m also super happy with the Final Fantasy XIII-2 demo, which I started last night but couldn’t finish because I had a splitting headache. Spoiler alert: I adore it so far. Like anyone is surprised by that…

Over at Amazon, the Deal of the Day in video games is the black Xbox 360 controller, which is on sale today only for $27.99 down from $39.99. If you got an Xbox 360 for Christmas and need another controller, you should definitely take advantage of this!

GameStop also has some deals going on – buy Just Dance 3 and save 50% on any Ubisoft dance game. Not bad! Their full deals for the week can be found here.

Just one video game related t-shirt today, but I’m also pimping out a design by a fellow Philadelphian! (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 9, 2012 – Another Monday

Ah, Monday. You snuck up on me yet again! I’m going to start calling you Ninja Monday. Though I guess it probably doesn’t help that I barely got any sleep all weekend. I’m making it easy for you!

So what’s going on this stealthy Monday? Well, Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is very similar to what they had going on last week – it’s Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, which is just $19.99 for the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. If you missed it last week, now’s your chance!

Amazon’s also got a new weekly deal up – 25% off of the Wii version of Aksys’ Bit.Trip Complete. It’s still pretty pricey at $29.28, but it’s a good game, so it’s worth it! You can also pick up a used Xbox 360 copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for $9.99 in the Amazon Warehouse this week.

Just one video game t-shirt for you today… (more…)

Amy dated and priced, with a twist

New survival horror game Amy has been dated and priced… well, kind of. The developers, VectorCell and Lexis Numérique announced that it would be released on January 10 on the PSN for $12.99, and on January 11 on the XBLA for $10/800 Microsoft Points.

Why the disparity in price? According to José Sanchis, CEO of Lexis Numérique:

“We decided to have a new approach to digital distribution by proposing heavy content at a very reasonable price because we believe price is a key issue, especially during hard economic times. Indeed, we believe Amy could have been sold a little bit higher. However, the issue we have to deal with is that a price in MS points doesn’t have the same value in all countries. Indeed, because of fluctuations between the dollar and the euro, 800 MS points are currently worth $10 in the US but €10 in Europe, which is about $12.8. As we have the same price in MS Points in all countries, there will be a difference of pricing whatever decision we make between countries and/or platforms. The pricing scheme we announced enables everyone to buy the game at a reasonable price with great value for the money, with an even greater deal for the XBLA gamers who indeed have it cheaper.”

The company currently has a poll on their Facebook page asking the community to vote on whether or not they should change the PSN price to $9.99, adding in that the PSN version will be delayed “at least one week” if the community votes to change the price.

This entire thing just seems silly to me, and smacks of shadiness. But the game does look really good, so I hope the community votes to lower the PSN price.
