Catlateral Damage struts its stuff on Kickstarter

Another Warp Zoned favorite, Catlateral Damage, is now on Kickstarter. I was freaking out about this one before I included it on our PAXpocalypse list, because it was amazing even before I played it. It’s a ridiculous amount of fun, sort of like a backwards Katamari Damacy, where you play as a cat knocking over everything in your owner’s house. My one regret right now is that I don’t have $500+ to get my awesome cat Puppy in the game.

Catlateral Damage is due out in November 2014 for PC, Mac, Linux, and Ouya. You can play the demo now on their Kickstarter page, and you really, really should.

Daily Scoop: June 19, 2014 – Rainy Thursday

It’s a gorgeous, rainy Thursday, and I’m home alone trying to get some work done. Of course, what that means is I’ve gotten about half of my work done, and read almost the entire Internet. I was planning on going to Wizard World Philadelphia this weekend, but I’m just not sure if I can justify spending that much money on a convention I haven’t been enjoying much in recent years. I’ve been going since 2000 (omg!), and I’ve seen the major ups and downs of WW, and at this point, I don’t know if I’m willing to spend $55 to go for one day. I’d much rather save that money and use it towards one of the many PAXes that now occur around the world. Nothing against comics, but… video games!

Let’s talk about video games, shall we? Steam just announced their monstrous Summer Sale, which will go from today until June 30th. The Witcher 2 is $3.99, Far Cry 3 is $7.49, XCOM: Enemy Uknown is $7.49, and there are about a billion others on sale. Go check it out!

There’s a new Humble Weekly Bundle as well. This one’s all about strategy games! Pay what you want for Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves, Stronghold Crusader Extreme HD, and Cubetractor. Pay $6 or more to unlock Unity of Command: Stalingrad Campaign, Eador: Masters of the Broken World, and Space Hulk. Pay $9 or more to unlock Ironclad Tactics.

There are some great t-shirts today, too!

Daily Scoop: June 18, 2014 – New RPG time

School’s out for summer, and I’m itching to start a new RPG. I’m just not sure which one at this point! I guess right now the choice is between Contact and Final Fantasy VI. Of course, I also really want to start up Lightning Returns, but that means I need to finish up Ni No Kuni first. Decisions, decisions…

Speaking of games in my backlog, I’ve got a list of some exciting games you can add cheaply to yours. Tiny and Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers is still $0.99 at Steam, and Aliens: Colonial Marines is $4.99. And if you missed Gunpoint yesterday, you can still get it for $2.49 at the Humble Store.

And now, it’s t-shirt time!

Video Games: The Movie will be released in July

I keep saying it, and I’ll say it again: it’s an exciting time for video games and the people who play them. Hollywood has finally caught on, and now Video Games: The Movie, a documentary produced by Zach Braff (and narrated by Sean Astin, squee!) has been picked up by Variance Films and will make its way to theaters – and your living room – in July of this year. There are lots of amazing people interviewed in it, including Cliff Bleszinkski, Alison Haislip, Hideo Kojima, and my personal favorite, Nolan Bushnell.

Director Jeremy Snead told The Hollywood Reporter: “Games are a part of the human experience and permeate our culture now more than ever before. I’m thrilled that my film will expose the world to a never-before-told story of the men and women who built this industry, as well as what it has become and what it will continue to evolve into, and I’m thrilled to be partnering with Variance to bring it out to the world.”

While this isn’t the first time this story has been told – unless Snead doesn’t want to count the books written on the topic, that is – it looks like it’s going to be an amazing documentary.

Video Games: The Movie will be available on Tuesday, July 15th through On Demand services, and in theaters in Canada and the United States on Friday, July 18th.

Daily Scoop: June 17, 2014 – Last day for the Mixer 5 Bundle

It’s a beautiful Tuesday, and now that classes are over, I’m thinking about heading over to Board Game Night at Redcap’s Corner! If you’re in the area, you should totally come and join us! We’ll have our games playable, and, of course, I plan on playing some games myself.

There are lots of great bundles going around the Internet right now, and one of them is the Mixer 5 Bundle over at Indie Royale! Pay the current minimum for Doorways, Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages, Famaze, Restaurant Empire II, Knights and Merchants, Finding Teddy, Turba, Spandex Force: Champion Rising, and the recently added Don’t Move.

As far as other deals go, the Midweek Madness sale at Steam is on Tiny and Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers, which is at the impossibly low price of $0.99, and their Daily Deal is $2.49 for the amazing Gunpoint, which you should absolutely buy right now. Over at the Humble Store, the deal of the day is Kerbal Space Program (Early Access Game) for $16.49. Scoop ’em up!

There are some great t-shirts out there today…

Daily Scoop: June 16, 2014 – Monday’s back

Hey, it’s Monday again! Did you spend the weekend playing video games? I didn’t play nearly as many as I’d hoped, but I think that’s how I feel pretty much every weekend! I did get to spend some quality time with the family for Father’s Day, so that was fun. Oh, and I played Scattergories with them, which was a blast!

Let’s talk about deals! Steam’s got a great Daily Deal – it’s Just Cause 2 for the incredibly cheap $2.99. The Humble Store also has some really great sales. Planetary Annihilation is $24.99, FTL: Advanced Edition is $6.99, Age of Fear 2: The Chaos Lord is $9.99, and Octodad is $8.99. Scoop ’em up!

And now, some t-shirts!

Nintendo is planning side-scrolling and first-person Metroid games

Metroid-NESWhile there was no talk of the Metroid franchise at E3, Stephen Totilo of Kotaku had an interesting interview with Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi of Nintendo. Totilo pointedly asked them what was going on with the Metroid franchise, and what fans could hope to expect. Miyamoto deferred to Takahashi, who currently works with the creators and directors from the Metroid series. Takahashi had this to say:

“So it has been a while since we released the last one and we’re having discussions internally about what we can do next. So at this point we have two different types of Metroid games. We have the Prime style of Metroid game and we have the more traditional style of Metroid game. We feel that we do need to take care of both of these styles of play. And the hope is that at some point in the near future we’ll be able to share something about them.”

This seems to indicate that a new game, or at least a new announcement, might be coming to us soon (perhaps during Tokyo Game Show?).

When asked by Totilo which one they preferred, Takahashi said he liked them both, and Miyamoto said he prefers Prime. I think this entire conversation is adorable.

Meet Pagan Min in the Far Cry 4 E3 trailer

At E3 2014, Ubisoft showed off the big villain, Pagan Min, from their upcoming game, Far Cry 4. Min is terrifying, which makes sense, seeing as he’s the dictator of Kyrat. The country is currently in a civil war trying to overthrow him, and you show up at a really bad time.

Far Cry 4 will be out November 18 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
