XBLA Today: Babel Rising
A single new game has been added to the Xbox Live Arcade, and it’s Ubisoft’s god game, Babel Rising. You can deliver the wrath of god through some fancy Kinect movements (or a regular controller) for 800 Microsoft Points ($10):
Babel Rising lets you play as a God and use your powers to prevent humans from building the tower of Babel. Hurl bolts of lightning, cause massive earthquakes, or unleash gigantic floods upon the Babylonians. Face a wide range of challenging enemies and levels and use the motion controllers to get a unique feeling of power!

EA has at least two unannounced Wii U games in the works
When Mass Effect 3 was announced for the Wii U, myself and many others were left scratching our heads. Unlike the port of Batman: Arkham City, which while a sequel is a standalone game, Mass Effect 3 is the third entry in a series where choices carry on from the previous two. To only release the third entry seems a little bizarre.
Thankfully, EA Labels President Frank Gibeau has spoken up about the company’s further plans for Nintendo’s new touchscreen baby. Gibeau told CVG that they have at least two more games currently in development for the Wii U: “We’ve got a couple of more games in development for Wii U and we’ll have a bigger line-up for Wii U than we did on the Wii.”
While not stated explicitly, his comments (and promise of more details this Summer) imply that these unannounced titles will be released within the Wii U’s launch window in late 2012. This at least goes some way to solidifying the statements made by EA Chief Executive John Riccitiello during last year’s E3 Expo when he said his company was embarking on “an unprecedented partnership” with Nintendo.
While we can all hope for new IPs from EA, the publisher already has a full slate of PC/PS3/Xbox 360 games coming in the Fall including their sports titles, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and Medal of Honor: Warfighter. So these unannounced titles are likely to belong to one or more of those groups.
However, Riccitiello also described the Wii U tablet controller as “transformational,” which could lead one to speculate that EA is looking at games to better take advantage of the second screen. For example, how about their long-running Command & Conquer series? With Command & Conquer Generals 2 set for 2013, it would be a welcome surprise for the Wii U.
Face your Alien Fear with these screenshots
City Interactive has released the first screenshots of their upcoming Unreal Engine 3 powered first-person shooter, Alien Fear, which is coming this Fall to the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Hoping to set a new standard for digital download games, the game puts you in the shoes of a space commando on a vital mission to sabotage the enemy forces. The screenshots are very impressive, using a larger colour palette than most of the grim shooters these days, and looks to offer a visual delight of arcade action mayhem.

THQ’s Rubin: We’re going to cancel games, not cut jobs
Barely a fortnight into his new role as THQ President, Jason Rubin is already showing how he intends to progress with the company’s new direction. In a recent interview with Joystiq, he managed to allay fears within the various studios owned by THQ of further job cuts.
“We have the appropriate number of teams and the appropriate number of people working on products, and we’re not going to be continuing to cut teams. But as far as product goes, I think we’ll have to find out exactly where that’s going,” Rubin said.
However, he does recognise that changes will have to be made, and several of THQ’s titles are on the chopping block as the company seeks to streamline their business. This process actually began last month when the company announced plans to sell off the publishing rights to Tomonobu Itagaki’s Devil’s Third.
While he comments that Insane, a planned trilogy of games from award winning filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro is “still in the slate,” other games such as a new FPS from Turtle Bay, a wholly new IP at THQ Montreal, and ex-Assassin’s Creed developer Patrice Desilets’ new project, rumoured to be called 1666, will have to wait for an official verdict from Rubin.
“I have to go around and look at everything over the next few weeks, next month, and I have to then decide which of the titles are the titles we’re gonna focus on based on what I believe our future should be.”
It is nice to hear Rubin talk so confidently, and will no doubt put THQ in a better position in the months and years to come.
Kirby Anniversary Collection will include these six games in Japan
The Kirby Anniversary Collection, known as Kirby’s Dream Collection in North America, will be released in Japan next month. Six classic Kirby games (the first six games in the series, actually) will be included in the package along with a soundtrack CD and a special anniversary booklet. It’s likely that the American lineup will remain the same, but as always, these things are subject to change.

- Kirby’s Dream Land (Game Boy)
- Kirby’s Adventure (NES)
- Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (Game Boy)
- Kirby Super Star (Super NES)

Kirby’s Dream Collection will be available for the Wii in North America in September.

Gravity Rush, MGS HD Collection, Batman: Arkham City, more added to PS Store
This week’s PlayStation Store update is filled with thrills, spills, and chills!
If you’re looking for a thrill, Sony has a pair of Vita games to get your blood pumping: the gravity-defying Gravity Rush and the stealth action of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. A third Vita game, the augmented reality puzzle game PulzAR, is pretty thrilling as well.
If it’s spills you’re looking for, then you’ll definitely want to point your PS3 at the PS3 Full Games section to experience the high-flying theatrics of Batman: Arkham City or the off-road madness of Dirt Showdown. And if you’ve got two left feet like me, there will be plenty of spilling involved in any play session of Just Dance 3.
Finally, the chills are provided by the PSN god game Babel Rising and an Atlus RPG, Gungnir, that’s available on the PSP, a system that has chillingly rose from the dead for one week!

Activision: We will be supporting Wii U
Nintendo has locked up Wii U launch games from a bevy of third-party publishers including Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, THQ, Sega, Tecmo, Namco, 2K Games, and WB Games. You’ll notice one major name is missing from that list: Activision.
But don’t panic! Activision has at least one Wii U game in development, they’re just not ready to make any official announcements yet.
The news comes via GamesIndustry International, and a conversation they had with Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, who said, “We don’t have announcements today, but we will be supporting Wii U.”
The publication also spoke to Mark Lamia of Treyarch and pushed both men on the possibility of a Wii U version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Obviously, neither would commit to Black Ops II on the Wii U, but Hirshberg did talk up the tablet features that Call of Duty Elite has brought to Modern Warfare 3 and Lamia had several good things to say about touch control as well.
This is definitely interesting for the future of Call of Duty on the Wii U because, I’m not sure if you’re aware, the Wii U GamePad will include a built-in touchscreen.

My apologies for disappearing for the last few weeks, everyone. My dear friend Bailey Adams passed away suddenly, and life has been very sad and strange.
