BioWare’s next game features off-road vehicles… wait, really?
The image to your left (click to enlarge it) is the first screenshot from BioWare’s upcoming, untitled game.
The unnamed game will make its worldwide debut at next month’s Spike TV Video Game Awards. Spike TV and MTV2 will broadcast the awards show on Saturday, December 10 beginning at 8 PM (Eastern Time).
So what exactly are we looking at? It appears to be a collision between two off-road vehicles in a dusty environment not unlike Borderlands/Fallout/Rage. It’s safe to say that this is not Dragon Age III or Jade Empire 2. Instead, we’ve just been given our first glimpse of a brand new BioWare franchise developed by a brand new BioWare studio (possibly BioWare Montreal).
So what exactly is it? Beats me.

Ubisoft is in command of Assassin’s Creed movie deal
Hollywood and the video game industry don’t mix, it’s almost a fact. When video games cross into movie territory, we get things like House of the Dead and that Super Mario Bros. movie that still haunts my nightmares.
Just last year, Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia franchise opened in theaters to a lukewarm critical and commercial reception, but Ubisoft has another acrobatic franchise that they hope to bring to theaters: Assassin’s Creed.
Sony Pictures has just signed a deal with Ubisoft to bring their stealth/action franchise to the big screen. Ubisoft had a big caveat though: They want control of everything. And the unprecedented deal does seem to give Ubisoft control of everything including the script, casting, budget and the release date.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise is huge, with combined franchise sales reaching above 30 million copies, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations dropping next week. It’ll be interesting to see whether the Assassin’s Creed movie will be another unfortunate game-to-film adaptation or whether it makes a killing at the box office.

Mass Effect 3 beta accidentally leaked, new features revealed

Last night, something magical happened on Xbox Live, if only for a moment; like a shooting star through the atmosphere. A Mass Effect 3 beta was leaked onto Xbox Live last night, and was accidentally made available to people who had signed up for the XBLA dashboard beta.
For a very brief moment of time, a 1.8 GB download was made available for ME3 that included a demo of both the single-player mode and new “Galaxy At War” multiplayer mode for the game. A gameplay video was subsequently upload to YouTube and screenshots were released on the NeoGAF forums of the experience.
After the demo was taken down, BioWare’s Jesse Houston released a statement chalking it up to human error, and said that the game was still in it’s really early code and wasn’t reminiscent of the final product at all. He also confirmed that the game includes three new play styles: “action mode,” “story mode,” and “RPG mode.” More details on these new ways to play Mass Effect will be released in the future.
