Winter Classic leads NHL 12’s new features
EA Sports is bringing a ton of new features to NHL 12 when the hockey sim faces off on the PS3 and Xbox 360 this Fall. You can check ’em all out right here, straight from EA…
Full-Contact Physics Engine: Real-time physics technology goes into overtime! Shatter the glass with helmet-popping hits along the boards, knock rivals over the boards and into the bench, and significantly impact the play of the goalie with screens and collisions as he fights through traffic to locate the puck. Game on!
All-New Dynamic Goalie Interaction: Stonewall your opponents with awe-inspiring desperation saves from your goalie as he covers every possible angle and works through screens and flying bodies in front of the net. When the action gets heated, send a message by leaving the net, dropping the gloves, and trading punches with a hated rival during melees and fights.
Play in the Winter Classic: The NHL package jumps to life with the addition of the NHL Winter Classic, the league’s premier outdoor hockey event on New Year’s Day. Play under snowfall at Pittsburgh’s Heinz field as 70,000+ rabid fans provide inspiration by cheering you on while donning Winter Classic gear.
Be a Pro Revamped: Playing as your created pro, earn every shift on the ice with stellar play, big hits, and spectacular goals. Simulate the action to your next shift so you’re always on the ice as you play out your entire career gunning for the Stanley Cup
NHL 12 will be released on September 13. Starting today, you can pre-order it at the EA Store.
Minecraft: Pocket Edition coming to Xperia Play first, demo at E3
Multiple Independent Games Festival award-winning title Minecraft is coming to Android and iOS mobile devices in the form of Minecraft: Pocket Edition. This version will be custom-tailored to the smartphone experience, with developer Mojang citing “different screen size compared to PC, different hardware, different attention spans,” as needing accommodation. The game will release first on Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play, taking full advantage of the device’s game controls.
Minecraft: Pocket Edition will have a demo and information session at this year’s E3, and will later come to Android and iOS devices.
Ubisoft announces free-to-play Ghost Recon Online, closed beta this summer
At Warp Zoned, we’re expecting more info to be released on Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier at E3, but today Ubisoft has detailed another upcoming game in the franchise. Ghost Recon Online will be a third-person, cover-based, free-to-play online multiplayer PC shooter, with features aiming to “rival the quality of those traditionally seen only in retail games.”
On paper, it’s looking like the game will do just that. With three classes, customizable weapons, persistent progression features, lobbies, live support, and “rich graphical environments and maps,” Ghost Recon Online could be a heavy hitter in emerging online markets. Taking a cue from the recent success of Champions Online, the game will offer premium content to purchase while the core experience remains free.
Between this and Battlefield Play4Free, the landscape of online shooters sure is evolving. No date was specified, but Ghost Recon Online will go into closed beta sometime this summer.

Sonic Generations, Shinobi confirmed for 3DS
The tireless sleuths at NeoGAF have uncovered the very interesting cover to the June 2011 issue of Nintendo Power (click the image to enlarge it).
After you get over the weirdness of seeing Sonic on the cover of Nintendo Power (I know Sonic games have been on Nintendo systems for a long time, but it’s still weird), you’ll see that the magazine confirms that Sonic Generations and a Shinobi revival are in development for the 3DS.
Sega was probably planning to make these announcements at E3 as the magazine will likely land on subscriber’s doorsteps after the game expo.

Max Payne 3, Agent, Spec Ops: The Line delayed

After 14 years in development, Duke Nukem Forever will finally be released next month after countless delays. But three other games in Take-Two’s development slate weren’t so lucky as they’ve been hit by Duke’s delay stick.
Spec Ops: The Line, which debuted in an amazing trailer at last year’s Spike TV Video Game Awards, will now be released sometime in the Spring/Summer of 2012. It had previously been scheduled for release this Fall.
A pair of Rockstar titles were also delayed as Max Payne 3 and Agent have been pushed back to release date unknown.
But don’t worry, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has assured us, “Max Payne 3 and Agent are still in development.” Let’s just hope we don’t have to wait another 14 years.
