2K Games will release WWE 2K17 in October
While there was little doubt that their annual professional wrestling franchise would skip a year, 2K Games has confirmed that WWE 2K17 will be released this October.
Here’s what 2K’s President, Karl Slatoff, had to say about the announcement during the company’s quarterly financial report yesterday:
WWE 2K17 is currently in development at Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, and we are confident that they will continue to innovate this series and build on its positive momentum when the game launches in October. WWE 2K17 will also be a part of the WWE SummerSlam weekend this August in New York. 2K will have more to share about [WWE 2K17 and its] exciting new features in the coming months.
As of right now, WWE 2K17 doesn’t have a confirmed home, but I think it’s safe to assume it’ll appear on the PS4 and Xbox One, though a PS3/Xbox 360 launch is more of a question mark.
Rockstar is hard at work on multiple projects that will be revealed “soon”
Executives from Take-Two Interactive presented the company’s quarterly financial report to investors yesterday, and they had some very interesting things to say about Rockstar Games.
The famed developer released Grand Theft Auto V in 2013, but since then, they’ve been happy to create additional content for “Grand Theft Auto Online” and re-release some of their older hits on mobile devices and the PS4. Not that this strategy hasn’t paid off, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, the company has shipped more than 65 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V worldwide since its launch.
However, Zelnick also confirmed that development teams within Rockstar are currently working on multiple new projects, and they will likely be revealed to the public soon: “Rockstar Games is, of course, also hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon.” One of these projects is widely assumed to be Red Dead Redemption 2.
The CEO previously told reporters that Take-Two will be in attendance at next month’s E3 Expo “in a big way,” so we probably won’t have to wait too long to find out what Rockstar is up to.
But hold your horses, Zelnick later confirmed that Take-Two’s 2016 release calendar is set in stone, so any new offerings from Rockstar won’t be released until 2017 at the earliest: “We’ve announced the entire release schedule for the year and that’s what you should expect our release schedule to be and that’s what our outlook is based on.”
Xbox Store Today: Homefront: The Revolution, Subnautica (Game Preview), Super Night Riders, more
Four new titles are now available to download through the Xbox Games Store today…
First up is Homefront: The Revolution (Xbox One), a shooter sequel that Deep Silver obtained from the vast THQ vault. The original Homefront was released in 2011, and featured a Red Dawn-inspired storyline where a reunited North and South Korea invade the United States. The Revolution takes place place two years later and shifts the action to Philadelphia where residents must once again fight for America’s freedom.
Also available this week is a new entry in Microsoft’s Game Preview program. Subnautica is a first-person game for the Xbox One where players explore the briny depths while trying to survive the harsh environment.
Finally this week, Super Night Riders (Xbox One) is a motorcycle racer done up in the style of an 80s arcade game; and Mimic Arena (Xbox One) is a side-scrolling multiplayer arena with brightly lit neon graphics.
More information on all of these titles can be found after the break. (more…)

Nintendo has sold more than 3.5 million copies of Super Mario Maker

With the launch of the NX looming, it’s painfully obvious that the Wii U failed to hit the mark with the video game community. According to their most recent financial report, Nintendo has sold less than 13 million Wii U consoles, which is just a fraction of the install base owned by Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. But that hasn’t stopped the consolemaker from creating compelling software that speaks to Wii U owners everywhere.
Just yesterday, Nintendo revealed that more than 25% of all Wii U owners have purchased Super Mario Maker, which translates to more than 3.5 million copies sold worldwide. These Mario fanatics have also managed to produce more than 7.2 million courses, and it would take the average person quite a long time to play them all:
If you played every level in #SuperMarioMaker for 1 minute each, it would take you nearly 14 years to play them all! pic.twitter.com/vEzBMTLGg8
— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) May 17, 2016
Super Mario Maker’s 3.5 million copies puts it just outside the Wii U’s Top 5 behind Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros. For Wii U, and Splatoon.

Unconventional warfare is the linchpin that holds many of the biggest titles in this week’s PlayStation Store update together.
First up is Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, a PS4 re-release of the highly-acclaimed strategy RPG. Originally released for the PS3 in 2008, Valkyria Chronicles captured the hearts and minds of gamers everywhere with its blend of magical abilities and tactical modern warfare.
Speaking of modern warfare, Deep Silver’s Homefront: The Revolution is also now available to download for the PS4. In this sequel, history repeats as the North Korean invasion of the US continues, and players are forced to fight for their independence on the streets of Philadelphia. History also repeats in Shadow of the Beast, a PS4 remake of the popular side-scroller originally released for the Amiga.
Finally this week, NIS America’s Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice makes its PlayStation Store debut more than eight after the game was originally released for the PS3. If you’ve been waiting all this time to pick it up, now you don’t even have to leave your couch.
