These nutty antics will be enjoyed over and over again.

Oh, and DuckTales Remastered, a high definition remake of the NES classic developed by WayForward, is also available to download from the XBLA today. The title is old news to some, as it was released for PC platforms, the PlayStation Store, and the Wii U eShop a month ago. But it duck blurs its way onto the XBLA today, for $14.99:

DuckTales: Remastered is a hand-crafted, beautiful reimagining of one of the most cherished 8-bit titles of all time. Go back to one of the golden ages of gaming, but now refined with a level of detail that will please the most hardened devoted Disney or retro Capcom fan, alike. Featuring hand-drawn animated sprites, authentic Disney character voices talent and richly painted level backgrounds from the classic cartoon TV series, Scrooge McDuck and family come to life like never before. The gameplay retains the authenticity of its 8-bit predecessor, simple and fun, with slight modifications to improve gameplay flow and design. Embark on an authentic DuckTales adventure, as Scrooge McDuck and his three nephews; Huey, Dewey and Louie travel to exotic locations throughout the world in their quest to retrieve the five Legendary Treasures.

Ubisoft announces JRPG homage Child of Light

With the recent release of several new games such as Rayman Legends, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Far Cry 3, Ubisoft is proving to be one of the most adept games developer this generation, and possibly the next. Not content with perfecting several different genres at once, the company has announced Child of Light.

The new downloadable title, a love letter to the Japanese RPG genre, will be built on the UbiArt Framework, the same engine used to build the critically acclaimed Rayman Legends. The core creative team from Ubisoft Montreal (Far Cry 3) is also involved on this project and, as a result, Child of Light shares some features of that game including its skill tree.

Child of Light tells the story of Aurora, whose soul has been transported to the fantastical realm of Lemuria. There, she must defeat the Black Queen in order to recover the Sun, Moon, and Stars that the evil monarch has stolen. She is aided through the dark realm by Igniculus, a floating ball of light similar to Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Igniculus can be controlled by a second player, and is able to reach places Aurora cannot. In combat, Aurora will fight with magic and weapons, while Iganculus can use his light to disorientate and blind enemies, as well as heal comrades.

While it is being built as an homage to the JRPG genre, Child of Light also takes inspiration from fairy tales and epic poems from the land of the rising sun. It will debut in 2014 on the PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Arrr, Me Hearties! Mobile game Assassin’s Creed: Pirates accompanies Black Flag this fall

At Ubisoft’s annual Digital Days event, the company revealed that it will be expanding the Assassin’s Creed universe to include mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets this Fall with the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Pirates.

Not to be mistaken for the separate Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag companion app, the two games will include some crossover, including characters such as Captian Benjamin Hornigold and the notorious Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard.

The game will cast you as Alonzo Batilla, a small time pirate who, under your control, will rise through the ranks of the pirate hoards. Similar to how you recruit assassins, Batilla will hire crew members, upgrade his vessel, and wake waves as he becomes a scourge of the seas!

NHL 14, Puppeteer, Killzone: Mercenary, more added to PS Store

nhl14-boxThere’s hockey, puppets, crossovers, alien wars, and ancient RPGs in this week’s PlayStation Store update. For those who couldn’t crack the code, I’m referring to…

  • NHL 14, EA Sports’ latest hockey simulation.
  • Puppeteer, a new game from Sony Japan Studio that takes place in a magical puppet theatre (and, as far as I know, there aren’t even any evil puppets).
  • Street Fighter X Tekken, the only crossover between these two fighting franchises for the forseeable future.
  • Killzone: Mercenary, which brings the franchise’s alien war to the Vita for the first time this week.
  • And finally, Dragon Fantasy Book II is a PS3/Vita Cross-Buy title that brings back a few memories of the 16-bit RPG age.

There’s more releases after the break and complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons is available at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

Activision has released a new campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts

Activision has released a new trailer focusing on the campaign from Call of Duty: Ghosts and it looks like Infinity Ward’s first person shooter franchise has been injected with a little James Bond flavor.

The trailer opens with a Moonraker-esque gun battle… IN SPACE! After the firefight, a massive satellite codenamed Odin unleashes a Die Another Day-like barrage of missiles on the United States… FROM SPACE! So yeah, in this version of the story, James Bond got his crotch lasered off by Goldfinger and the supervillain’s plan was a complete success. That’s where the Ghosts come in:

Ten years after a devastating mass event, the nation’s borders and the balance of global power have been redrawn forever. As what’s left of the nation’s Special Operations forces, a mysterious group known only as “Ghosts” leads the fight back against a newly emerged, technologically-superior global power.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released for the PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on November 5. The game will also be released for the PS4 and Xbox One sometime in late November.
