A new “main series” Fire Emblem game will be released for the Switch in 2018

Nintendo’s final announcement from yesterday’s Fire Emblem Direct presentation may have been the shortest… but it was a doozy. The consolemaker has announced plans to release a new “main series” Fire Emblem game for the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE was released for the Wii U last year, but it’s actually been a decade since a “main series” Fire Emblem game made its debut on one of Nintendo’s home consoles. That was the year Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn was released for the original Wii.

Nintendo will likely have a lot more to say about Fire Emblem 2018 after the release of Fire Emblem Warriors this Fall. Until then, let’s all look forward to the Switch’s launch on March 3.

Fire Emblem Heroes will be released for Android devices on February 2; iOS launch coming later

I don’t think anyone could have guessed how divisive Super Mario Run would turn out to be, but Nintendo is taking their second crack at a mobile game next month with the release of Fire Emblem Heroes.

Fully unveiled during last night’s Fire Emblem Direct presentation, Fire Emblem Heroes is a free-to-play strategy RPG that’ll feature a number of “legendary heroes” from the franchise:

Fire Emblem Heroes is an original strategy RPG about two warring kingdoms in a bitter clash. As a summoner, players build their army by calling upon popular Fire Emblem heroes from worlds that span the breadth of the series. Players will wage tactical battles streamlined for on-the-go play and level up a mix of new combatants and legendary heroes. Some familiar hero characters will become allies, while others will become enemy generals.

Players can enjoy the full majesty of tactical role playing on bite-sized maps designed to fit nicely on a smartphone screen, even when playing in short bursts. Players lead their armies with easy touch-and-drag controls, including the ability to attack by simply swiping an ally hero over an enemy. If they manage to defeat every enemy on a given map, victory will be theirs. The heroes are depicted in new art hand-drawn by a variety of illustrators, and their voices have been newly recorded.

A multiplayer mode will give players the option to practice battling with friends and strangers, and future updates will add new characters and content to the game.

Speaking of characters, fans can visit the game’s official website to vote on which legendary heroes they’d like to see in Fire Emblem Heroes. The hero and heroine who receive the most votes will be featured in the game as special “Choose Your Legends” event characters.

In a reverse of Super Mario Run’s situation, Fire Emblem Heroes will be available to download exclusively on Android devices on February 2. Nintendo will announce an iOS release schedule at a later date.

1992’s Fire Emblem Gaiden will be re-released for 3DS as Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia in May

The Fire Emblem franchise had a long history in Japan before Fire Emblem made its North American debut in 2003. Later this year, fans outside of Japan will get to experience some of that history.

Announced yesterday during a Fire Emblem Direct presentation, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is an enhanced remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden, which was originally released for the Famicom in 1992. Coming to the 3DS on May 19, Shadows of Valentia will include a completely updated visual style, new cutscenes, and an overall “grander scale”:

In 1992, the second game in the Fire Emblem series, Fire Emblem Gaiden, launched exclusively in Japan. Now, for the first time, fans outside of Japan will get a taste of this classic game on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is inspired by the 1992 original, reimagined on a grander scale. Every aspect of the Fire Emblem Gaiden game’s presentation has been updated, along with the game being fully voiced. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia recreates classic Fire Emblem gameplay with a modern twist, mixing in exploration of dungeons crawling with enemies.

Nintendo also announced that an Amiibo 2-Pack featuring Shadows of Valentia’s main characters, Alm and Celica, will be available alongside the game’s launch.

Fire Emblem Warriors will also be released for the New 3DS this Fall

The latest Nintendo Direct presentation gave the spotlight over to the Fire Emblem franchise last night, and the publisher made several interesting announcements that are sure to get fans talking.

It looks like Nintendo’s collaboration with Koei Tecmo on Fire Emblem Warriors won’t just be limited to the Switch. Like Hyrule Warriors, the Fire Emblem Warriors spinoff will also be released for the New 3DS this Fall.

Unfortunately, that means Fire Emblem Warriors won’t be compatible with the standard 3DS or the budget-priced 2DS.

Little Nightmares will be released for PC, PS4, Xbox One on April 28

Bandai Namco and Tarsier Studios have announced that Little Nightmares will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on April 28.

Little Nightmares was first revealed by Bandai Namco back in August during the Gamescom expo. The spooky little adventure stars Six, “a helpless little girl dressed in a yellow raincoat on a mission to escape from The Maw”:

Little Nightmares presents a grim shadow-filled adventure through an interactive storyline, outstanding sound design, and a unique art-style that is sure to deliver eerie chills and goosebumps. Players will discover that Little Nightmares blurs the lines between dreams and nightmares as they explore The Maw in an effort to escape its nightmarish confines. Gruesome enemies and environments can be found at every turn on this strange vessel; the fate of Six lies in the skillful hands of hands of players.

Little Nightmares was initially designed as a digital title, but Bandai Namco also plans to release a special retail-only Six Edition for the game. Available from your favorite retailer for $34.99, the “themed cage box” will include a 4″ tall Six figurine, the original game soundtrack, a sticker board, and an exclusive poster.

Bandai Namco also released a new trailer for Little Nightmares to go along with the release date announcement, and it’s been embedded above.
