Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel celebrates release date with moon dance trailer

In honor of announcing the October 14 release date for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (and the imminent 2014 E3 Expo), 2K has released this awesome new trailer featuring a moon dance. Yes, you heard me right: a moon dance. Watch the trailer above to see it in its full glory. While it’s no Doomsday trailer from Borderlands 2 (that trailer STILL gives me chills), it’s still pretty great.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on October 14.

Shovel Knight will be released on June 26

shovelknight-boxI’ve been digging things up all Spring to prepare myself, and now, Yacht Club Games has announced that Shovel Knight has passed certification and is finally ready for release. Their retro-styled platformer will be released as a digital download for the PC (via Steam), Wii U, and 3DS on June 26.

In anticipation of Shovel Knight’s pending release, Yacht Club has revealed the game’s official box art and given everyone a sneak peek at the NES-inspired instruction manual via their official website. In the coming weeks, some of the game’s Kickstarter backers will receive physical copies of both.

And if you’re attending next week’s E3 Expo, you might run into members of the Yacht Club team on the show floor. And if you ask nicely, they’ll hand you a 3DS with Shovel Knight on it.

Final Wii Sports Club titles will be available on June 26; Boxed collection coming in July

wiisportsclub-logoThe remaining two games from the Wii Sports Club collection, Wii Sports Club: Baseball and Wii Sports Club: Boxing, will finally be available to download from the Wii U eShop on June 26.

However, if you’d prefer to purchase every Wii Sports Club title at the same time, Nintendo plans to release a disc-based compilation on July 25. Priced at $39.99, the retail disc will include all five sports (Tennis, Bowling, Golf, Baseball, and Boxing), though it probably won’t include any additional bonus features. But every Wii Sports Club title did receive a high definition graphical makeover and includes online multiplayer modes that weren’t present in the Wii originals.

The full press release is posted after the break. (more…)

Kickstarter simplifies their campaign rules and adds “Launch Now” feature

kickstarter-logoIf you follow our monthly Kickstart This! feature, then you will no doubt be aware of the trials and pitfalls associated with launching a Kickstarter campaign. Now, the popular crowdfunding platform is making it easier for creative types (including game developers) to give birth to a new project.

The first step is by simplifying the rules for what can, and cannot, be deemed an acceptable project:

  1. Projects must create something to share with others.
  2. Projects must be honest and clearly presented
  3. Projects cannot fundraise for charity, offer financial incentives, or involve prohibited items.

If you can follow these three conditions, then you are halfway there. If you are making a physical working item, like an Ouya, for example, then you must show some type of prototype.

A more exciting new feature, “Launch Now,” is being rolled out in the next few weeks. According to Kickstarter, it will make it easier for project creators to know when their vision is ready to be shared with the online masses.

The feature uses an algorithm incorporating thousands of data points to check whether a project is ready to launch — things like the project’s description, rewards, funding goal, and whether the creator has previously launched a project. If the project qualifies for Launch Now, the creator can go live whenever they’re ready. If the creator wants to connect with someone at Kickstarter, we’ll review the project and offer our feedback and advice. If a project doesn’t qualify for Launch Now, the creator will need to share the project with us for a review before it can launch.

If you are launching a new video game-related Kickstarter campaign in the near future, let us know so we can feature it in the next edition of Kickstart This!

Continue Countdown #5 – Mortal Kombat X, Forza Horizon 2, Pre-E3 Predictions, More

It’s the most wonderful time of the year as the 2014 E3 Expo is right around the corner. The Warp Zoned staff spent a recent night chatting about some of the big pre-E3 announcements during the latest episode of “Continue Countdown.” We pre-pre-judged Mortal Kombat X, Homefront: The Revolution, Forza Horizon 2, BattleCry, Battlefield Hardline, and Hyrule Warriors in the first six segments of the show.

But we also wanted to worry and fret over a trio of delayed games (Batman: Arkham Knight, The Order: 1886, and Quantum Break) as well as speculate about what a Smash Bros.-style Mario Kart game would be like (spoiler alert: it would be AWESOME). And the eternal question (How much would you pay for an E.T. cartridge excavated from a landfill?) was answered.

Finally, we slipped a few E3 predictions in there. We’re probably way off the mark, but it’s that magical pre-E3 time when anything seems possible.
