Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will launch (to the moon) on October 14

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel now has a release date: October 14! This is ridiculously exciting news. The game, which is set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, will document the rise to power of Handsome Jack. Check out the trailer above to see him recite his version of the poem “Ozymandias.”

They haven’t listed the participating retailers yet, but some pre-orders will include the “Shock Drop Slaughter Pit” bonus content, which will include unique in-game loot.

President of 2K Christoph Hartmann said, “The teams at Gearbox and 2K Australia have combined the best talent from both studios to create a Borderlands experience that we know fans are going to love… For those that haven’t played the critically acclaimed franchise, there’s never been a better time to jump in than with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.”

And everyone’s favorite dude, Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox, had this to say: “It’s incredibly exciting that an all-new Borderlands experience is as close as this October… If you’ve played any of the Borderlands games or if you have a friend who hasn’t yet, the opportunity to blast off as a new set of playable characters in a whole new campaign experience, including shooting and looting on the moon, is just around the corner.”

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available on October 14 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Hit the jump for the full press release. (more…)

Rejoice! EarthNight is coming to PS4, Vita

Great news, everyone! Cleaversoft’s amazing runner, EarthNight, is coming to PlayStation 4 and Vita. The company made the announcement yesterday, and the composer, Chipocrite, followed up by releasing this incredible EP in honor of the reveal. I’ll take a moment to say that Cleaversoft and Chipocrite are both from Philadelphia. Philly represent!

The video above is the E3 demo gameplay trailer, and the game will be playable at Sony’s booth next week. EarthNight will be released “when it’s done,” and trust me, people: it’s worth the wait. The game will launch on PS4 first, then on iOS, Android, Vita, Mac, and PC.

Achtung Baby! EA’s 2014 World Cup simulation says Germany will win it all

EAsportsYesterday, EA declared that the 2014 World Cup would be won by Germany. EA simulated the Cup, testing all 32 teams using the conditions for the upcoming weeks, using the football/soccer engine from their 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil game. The final outcome was that Germany would win over Brazil with a score of 2-1. This would mean that Germany would be the first nation from Europe to win the Cup in South America.

The sports simulation giant predicted correctly that Spain would win four years ago, but if that doesn’t give you enough faith in them, you can make your own predictions at EA’s interactive bracket.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is available now on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Check out the full press release (which includes predictions for every match after the Group stage) for the simulation after the jump. (more…)

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call will be available on September 16

theatrhythmfinalfantasycurtaincallSquare Enix has announced that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call will launch on the Nintendo 3DS on September 16. But that’s not all: they’ve also announced that there will be a Collector’s Edition, which will be limited to 5,000 copies and will only be available through the Square Enix online store. You can pre-order both right now – the former for $39.99, and the latter for $69.99.

The Collector’s Edition, pictured above, will include a pouch for your 3DS, “The Best of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call” CD with 20 tracks, “Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call – Remix Selections” CD with five tracks, and five CollectaCards. I’m not sure exactly what makes this $30 more expensive, but I will most likely end up pre-ordering this once I let my guard down.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call will be out on September 16 for the Nintendo 3DS.

Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley will be released for 3DS this year

harvestmoonthelostvalleyDeveloper Natsume announced that they’ll be releasing a new title in the Harvest Moon series, entitled Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. It will be launching on the 3DS later this year, and is not to be confused with XSEED’s Story of Seasons, which is the true sequel to previous Harvest Moon games (Natsume owns the US trademark to Harvest Moon, so The Lost Valley is technically the first game in a brand new series).

President and CEO of Natsume, Hiro Maekawa, said “Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley is truly evolving the franchise. Hardcore fans will love it, players who haven’t played a Harvest Moon game in a while will want to try it out, and new players will be introduced to the unique and charming world that is Harvest Moon… But the incredibly exciting thing that really elevates the game is that while it does get back to what everyone loves about the early games, it also innovates in a way that no Harvest Moon game ever has.”

In The Lost Valley, you can customize your field however you want, with plenty of options in a world that is fully customizable. Fans of the series who will be at E3 next week can check the game out at Booth #615. Check out the full press release after the jump.

Tetris Ultimate set for a Summer release on PS4, Xbox One; PC version to follow in Fall

Are you ready to play the ultimate version of Tetris? I hope so, because Ubisoft plans to release Tetris Ultimate as a digital download for the PS4 and Xbox One this Summer. The game will also be available through PC download services in the Fall.

Tetris Ultimate will include six modes (Marathon, Endless, Ultra, Sprint, Battle, and Power-Up Battle) and multiplayer play for up to four people. We’ll get an extended look at the game next week during the E3 Expo and members of the public who make it down to Ubisoft’s Uplay Lounge at The Standard hotel will be able to try it out for themselves.

I have just one question, how has a Tetris game never used “Ultimate” as a subtitle before this?

Daily Scoop: June 4th, 2014 – New digital deals

I’m in need of playing some video games, my friends. I mean I really just want a full day where I do nothing at all but play video games. Ideally, I would take a break to shower (nah) and eat (ice cream) and maybe walk around (to the fridge to get more ice cream), but other than that, just video games until I noticed it had gone from day to night. Maybe once school is over, my dream can come true!

Anyway, let’s talk about some new digital deals I’ve stumbled across! Over at Indie Royale, they’ve got the brand new Phoenix Bundle. Pay the current minimum or more for Cognition Episode 4: The Cain Killer, Cognition Episode 3: The Oracle, The Cat Lady, Lost Civilization, Face Noir, and Reperfection: Volume 1. I want to make so many funny comments about The Cat Lady, but it looks like it’s a horror game and not a simulation of my life, so… yeah.

Over at Steam, you can grab Sniper Elite V for free, but only if you get it and install it before tomorrow at 10am PST. Their Daily Deal is Spore, which is on sale for $4.99. Scoop ’em up!

There are some awesome t-shirts today: (more…)
