Trio of new Wonderbook games will arrive on PS3 on November 12

Prepare to crack open the PS3’s Wonderbook peripheral again. Sony has announced that three new titles that use the magic book will be released on November 12. Here’s what you can expect from each title, courtesy of Sony:

The action-packed detective story Wonderbook: Diggs Nightcrawler, follows the journey of a loveable bookworm super-sleuth in his crime-busting quest to restore harmony to the film noir inspired world of Library City. Help Diggs in his pursuit for justice, and find out who really bumped Humpty from his wall in this intriguing tale.

PlayStation teamed up with BBC Worldwide to bring you Wonderbook: Walking with Dinosaurs, which sets giants like T. rex and Stegosaurus loose in your home.

Wonderbook’s launch title, Book of Spells, brought wizardry to life in your living room, allowing you to cast spells just like a student at Hogwarts. Now you can also try your hand at potion-making with Wonderbook: Book of Potions, the second Wonderbook title to result from Sony’s partnership with Pottermore from J.K. Rowling. You’ll brew magical potions from the Harry Potter stories, compete to win the elusive Golden Cauldron, and find out whether you really have what it takes to become a potions champion.

There will even be a new character, created by J.K. Rowling herself, especially for Book of Potions. In the story, you’ll meet Zygmunt Budge, one of the most accomplished Potioneers ever known — an eccentric, unstable, and vengeful wizard who left Hogwarts at the age of 14 as an act of protest. We had lots of fun bringing his character to life through a number of J.K. Rowling’s delightful stories, and hope you’ll have as much fun meeting him.

Walking With Dinosaurs will be the easiest Wonderbook title to obtain as it will be available both in stores (packaged with the Wonderbook peripheral) and downloadable through the PlayStation Store. Book of Potions will not be available on the PSN and can only be purchased in stores as part of a Wonderbook bundle. Finally, Diggs Nightcrawler will be released as a PSN exclusive. Got all that? Because that kind of complicated sales strategy isn’t complicated at all.

Trailers for Book of Potions and Walking With Dinosaurs can be found after the break. (more…)

After parting ways with EA, Tiger Woods’ agent is talking with other game publishers

tigerwoodspgatour14-boxOn Tuesday, EA Sports revealed that their next PGA Tour golf game won’t feature Tiger Woods in the title or on the cover. Now, Tiger wants everyone to know that he’s in discussions to roar back with a new publisher and a new game.

Speaking to ESPN, Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg said: “We had an incredible run. Outside of [John] Madden, you would be hard pressed to find a sports figure that meant as much to a video game company as Tiger meant to EA. But times are changing and EA had to re-evaluate the partnership, and frankly so did we.”

According to Steinberg, this re-evaluation includes discusses with another publisher about creating a Tiger Woods-branded game. However, outside of EA, a relatively small number of golf games have been released in the last decade. But there have been a few. For example, all three consolemakers have their own humorous take on the sport (Sony’s Hot Shots Golf, Microsoft’s Powerstar Golf, and Nintendo’s Mario Golf) and Take-Two owns the rights to the acclaimed Links series, so perhaps there’s a new video game in Tiger’s future yet.

With the lights out and the sound turned up, your clammy palms grip the controller as your character stands just short of the end of a hallway. You pause for a moment, trying to gather the courage to force yourself forward, despite knowing full well that what waits around the corner is nothing short of pure horror. But you must press on, because it’s the only way to rid yourself of the evil that lurks. Plus, you get an Achievement for killing it! South Park: The Stick of Truth delayed again… this time to March 2014

South Park: The Stick of Truth has been delayed… again. This marks the fourth delay for the Ubisoft-published, Obsidian-developed RPG, which stretches all the way back to THQ’s stewardship of the game. Originally set for a Fall 2012 launch (and then March 5 and then “Summer 2013” and then December 10), the game will now be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 4, 2014.

To soothe the hurt feelings of gamers everywhere, Ubisoft has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for The Stick of Truth:

In their latest adventure, the boys embark on a quest to the Inn of the Giggling Donkey, an infamous tavern that harbors the scum of all the realm.

There, it is believed the famed Bard guards the hallowed stick of truth. In order to defeat the Bard’s followers, you’ll have to throw everything you have at the enemy, including dodge balls and farts. Poison your foes with your flatulence, and refill your mana with burritos.

After The Stick of Truth’s numerous delays, I have a newfound respect for Ubisoft’s desire to get it right and the South Park creator’s “6 Days to Air” mantra.

Ed Boon jokes about Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks HD re-release

mortalkombat-header

Ed Boon, creator of Mortal Kombat and head honcho of NetherRealm Studios, loves Twitter. The acclaimed developer posts dozens of tweets a week, often offering teasers of NetherRealm’s upcoming projects. Today, he joked that the company is hard at work on an HD remake of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, a PS2/Xbox brawler originally released almost a decade ago:

Obviously, no one knows if Boon is just trolling his loyal fanbase or teasing a legitimate game. As always with these things, it’s best to take any speculation with a grain of salt and… you know what… NO!

DO NOT TOY WITH ME ED BOON! Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks was an outstanding game and I would love to play an HD remake or, better yet, a sequel. We know NetherRealm holds the game in high regard as its backstory (which was actually created by the now-defunct Midway Los Angeles) was heavily integrated into the Mortal Kombat reboot’s Challenge Tower.

The fans demand it Mr. Boon, you must do this.

2K has “more than 10” next-gen games in development; next Borderlands 2 DLC set for November

taketwo-logoTake-Two Interactive published their quarterly financial report yesterday and while revenues were down, the company expects to post a very healthy profit by the end of the year thanks to Grand Theft Auto V.

Looking to the future, Take-Two announced that they have a wide variety of next-generation games in development. According to Take-Two’s President, Karl Slatoff, the company has “more than 10” next-generation titles in the works including Turtle Rock’s co-op shooter Evolve and an unannounced game at 2K’s recently opened Bay Area studio. And before you get your hopes up, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick adamantly refused to talk about the company’s next-gen plans for the Grand Theft Auto series.

The publisher plans to begin unveiling some of these titles “during the next several months” and plans to release several of them during their 2015 fiscal year (April 2014-March 2015).

But in the more immediate future, Take-Two also confirmed that the next Headhunter Pack for Borderlands 2, “Wattle Gobbler,” will be released in November.
