Nintendo Download: Bravely Default, Retro City Rampage, The Lego Movie, More

Welcome to another edition of the Nintendo Download. This week, 3DS owners will be treated to Retro City Rampage: DX, an enhanced and updated version of the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii game that most of us refer to as “8-bit Grand Theft Auto.” Also available today are a pair of Wii U titles: Percy’s Predicament, a family-friendly platformer, and Ninja Gaiden, one of the greatest ninja games to ever grace the NES.
Tomorrow, Nintendo and Square Enix will add Bravely Default, an RPG in the style of classic Final Fantasy titles, to the 3DS eShop and WB Games will do the same for The Lego Movie, a Lego-style game based on the movie of the same name. The Lego Movie will also be available on the Wii U eShop.
Finally, One Piece: Romance Dawn, an RPG based on the popular anime, will be available through the 3DS eShop on Tuesday, February 11.
More details on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

Nintendo is bringing a slew of indie games to the 3DS/Wii U eShop
There are tons of amazing indie games coming to Nintendo’s 3DS and the Wii U through the eShop – and some are even coming out for both. Retro City Rampage: DX is coming to the 3DS tomorrow, with Siesta Fiesta and Moon Chronicles following in March, and Treasurenauts in May. Those titles join Jett Rocket 2 and Edge, which are already available, and Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, which is due out this quarter.
And the Wii U has an even longer list. Unepic, Knytt Underground, and CastleStorm are available now, with Wooden Sen’SeY coming out this month. And, of course, we can’t forget Shovel Knight, which is coming to both systems on March 31.
Hit the jump for a full list of all the available upcoming indie games on the 3DS and Wii U eShop. (more…)

Rumor: Disney developing Marvel and Star Wars expansions for Disney Infinity

Nestled into an incredibly depressing Wall Street Journal article about upcoming layoffs at Disney Interactive was this comment:
New versions of [Disney Infinity] featuring characters from Disney’s Marvel superhero unit and the Star Wars universe it acquired along with Lucasfilm in 2012 are being developed.
Disney Interactive – which has about 3,000 employees – will be letting go of several hundred of them. “The cuts at Disney Interactive, which has undergone multiple rounds of layoffs in recent years as it struggled to reach profitability, are expected to begin after the media giant releases its quarterly financial results Wednesday.” Disney Infinity’s success “was considered critical for its continuing videogame efforts after a number of failures.”
While it’s exciting to hear about possible Marvel and Star Wars expansions, it’s difficult to hear about more layoffs in the industry. Hopefully the layoffs are just a rumor.

Retro City Rampage: DX will be available on the 3DS eShop this month
Retro City Rampage didn’t have the smoothest of launches when it was released for the PC, PS3, Vita, and Xbox 360 in 2012. A lot of people loved the game’s “GTA-meets-NES” look, but the reviews were less than kind (including this one by yours truly). However, developer Brian Provinciano has been busy improving the game over the last year (the PC version has received 16 updates since its release) and he’s finally ready to release the ultimate version of the game for the 3DS this month.
Known as Retro City Rampage: DX, this new version of the game has been tweaked and teased to bring out the best of the RCR experience. In addition to all the enhancements found in the PC version, RCR:DX will include a variety of new content and every mission has been optimized and edited. This includes rebalancing to make the game less difficult and a tutorial/tip system to help with some of themore extreme missions. Additional changes have been delivered to every part of the game including the visuals, vehicles, weapons, checkpoints, and Challenges.
Best of all, Retro City Rampage: DX has been priced at $9.99, which is 33% lower than the PC/console edition’s $14.99 price tag.

Yoshi lays an egg in a new Yoshi’s New Island trailer
There is a lot of cute happening in this trailer for Yoshi’s New Island. Fans of the original game are sure to be excited about not just the things that feel warm and familiar, but also the crazy new features (eating giant enemies and laying giant eggs that break so much?!?!) that run rampant here. It’s A Shell of a Time!
Yoshi’s New Island will be available on March 14 for Nintendo’s 2DS and 3DS handheld systems.

And speaking of throwback RPGs, Microsoft plans to release Fable Anniversary, their Xbox 360 remake of Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters, this week.
Also available this week is the “Videogame” adaptation of The Lego Movie. You can hear a Lego version of Chris Pratt say “awesome” a lot on the 3DS, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
Finally, a trio of PC simulation games will soon be available for your purchasing pleasure including Civilization V: The Complete Edition, Airport Simulator 2014, and Professional Farmer 2014.

Nintendo Download: Zelda: Link to the Past, Mario Bros., Wii Fit U, more

Another pair of classic titles are now available to download thanks to this week’s Nintendo Download. The Wii U eShop is now home to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past while the 3DS eShop has been invaded by the crabs from the original and non-super Mario Bros.
If you’re looking for something original, a trio of new games have also been added to the 3DS eShop…
- Castle Clout 3D is a physics-based smasher that’s reminiscent of Angry Birds.
- Arc Style: Solitaire is a solitaire compilation from the people who make the Guilty Gear series of fighting games.
- Touch Battle Tank 3D 2 is an overhead shooter featuring… you guessed it… tanks.
Finally, tomorrow is the last day to download the free 30-day trial of Wii Fit U. Beginning February 1, the exercise program will revert to its regular $29.99 price on the Wii U eShop.
More information on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)
