Project X Zone crosses over to America on June 25

Namco Bandai has revealed, through the game’s official website, that June 25 will be the official release date of the 3DS game Project X Zone.
Project X Zone (which was said to be a working title at the time of the game’s announcement, but is apparently the game’s final title) is a strategy RPG crossover developed by Monolith Soft that brings together characters from Namco Bandai’s stable of games as well as those from Sega and Capcom. As you can see, this bizarre amalgam of a game will include appearances by Dante from Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Ulala from Space Channel 5, Ryu from Street Fighter, Jin Kazama from Tekken, and more than 45 others. In all, more than 200 Namco Bandai, Sega, or Capcom characters will make an appearance in the game.
That’s a lot.

The giant chicken at the center of Toki Tori 2 is the hightlight of this week’s Nintendo Download. The puzzle platformer marks the continuation of Nintendo’s push to get indie developers on the Wii U eShop and its available to download for $X.XX.
Also available this week is the classic 8-bit platformer, Castlevania. Downloadable on the 3DS for the first time, the first adventure of the original “vampire killer,” Simon Belmont, is joined by Real Heroes: Firefighter 3D and Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove 3D.
And over on the Wii’s Virtual Console, Nam-1975 (originally released for the NeoGeo) is now available to download.
Additional details for all of these titles can be found after the break. (more…)
New Releases: Defiance, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, More

With PAX East and GDC behind us, we head into another slow Spring month of new releases.
The first week of April begins with Trion Worlds’ Defiance for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The alien-blasting game is a side-story companion to the Syfy show of the same name. This week also sees the release of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The enhanced special edition of Ryu Hayabusa’s third adventure was previously only available for the Wii U.
Also available this week is a trio of new PC games (Cities In Motion 2, Sacra Terra: Kiss of Death, and The Veil of Mystery: Seven Little Gnomes) as well as Super Black Bass 3D on the 3DS.
And that’s it.
Nintendo Download: HarmoKnight, RE Revelations, more
It’s an all-3DS Nintendo Download day as the company adds HarmoKnight, Legend of the River King, Resident Evil Revelations, and Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed to the 3DS eShop.
More details on all of these games can be found right here:
HarmoKnight – Strike and jump to the beat in this rhythm-based action platformer from Game Freak, the makers of Pokemon! With over 50 stages spanning eight worlds, it’s a full-featured game in a digital package. Feel the music and find your rhythm to save Melodia!
Resident Evil Revelations – Jill Valentine and BSAA partner Parker Luciani have been sent to search for Chris Redfield, whose last known GPS data positions him as being onboard a supposedly abandoned cruise ship. Danger hides around every corner as they explore the confined space of the ship and face a menacing new enemy and virus; the T-Abyss.
Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed – Compete across land, water and air in incredible transforming vehicles that change from cars to boats to planes mid-race. Master your driving skills as you drift, barrel roll and boost to overtake your rivals, or use your weapons tactically and unleash your All-Star move to gain the winning advantage.
Legend of the River King – The Legend of the River King is a unique fishing RPG that offers two great modes, putting your angling and survival skills to the test!

Shovel Knight Hands-On Preview: I’m Diggin’ It

Being in the vicinity of Shovel Knight, the first project from Yacht Club Games, seems to make horrible puns just emerge from the ether. During my PAX East playtime, a nearby developer assured me that while the current build was only ten percent complete, the team was beginning to “dig in” towards the game’s full potential. The developer actually hadn’t realized the double meaning of his words until someone else pointed them out to him. He apologized for the terrible wordplay and admitted that it had been happening all morning.
But a game like Shovel Knight requires this kind of pun-tastic sense of humor. (more…)

Shovel Knight Interview: Sailing the PAX East Seas With Sean Velasco

Sean Velasco knows retro games. As the former Director of WayForward Technologies, he was the driving force behind Contra 4, A Boy and His Blob, and Double Dragon: Neon. And as the “Captain” of Yacht Club Games, Velasco is sailing off into the uncharted waters of an original property, Shovel Knight.
You can read all about Shovel Knight in our PAX East playthrough, which will be posted later today (UPDATE: Here it is!). But for now, let Captain Velasco guide you through his love of classic games, his thoughts on Kickstarter, Shovel Knight’s future, and the possibility of a PSN/XBLA version of the game. (more…)

The PAXpocalypse List: The Best of PAX East 2013

We don’t have the PAX pox, but what if the entire convention center was put under quarantine because of some mystery illness? What would you do? What would you see? We’d endure the PAXpocalypse by spending all of our time with the 13 games (nine playable, three developer-guided demos, and one board game) below. Though it would have to be after pushing the hordes of undead off our doorstep. Because any pox affecting PAXgoers would almost certainly have to lead to a zombie uprising. (more…)

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate Review: Whip It Good

Reboots are all the rage these days. Major titles such as Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat and Devil May Cry went back to the drawing board and returned with a fresh coat of paint and new stories to tell. Reviews, and for that matter, sales, have also shown us that rebooting a franchise normally yields positive results. One of the earliest reboots this generation, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow wiped the slate clean and gave us an entirely new take on the revered franchise. Lords of Shadow was very well received, and was popular enough to spawn a sequel. Release information for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 has yet to see the light of day (It’s a vampire game, get it?), but until that day comes, we have Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate.
