Pokemon Black 2/White 2 to be released on October 7

The DS still has one big game (OK, technically two) left in it as Nintendo plans to release Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 this Fall. Today, the publisher confirmed that the games will be available in stores on October 7.

Nintendo also announced they’ll be adding Pokemon Dream Radar, an augmented reality game where Pokemon invade your house, to the 3DS eShop on the same day. Several hard-to-find Pokemon caught in Pokemon Dream Radar can even be transferred to Pokemon Black 2/White 2.

“Fans will want to count the days until October 7, when they’ll not only get to play the successor to one of the biggest Pokemon adventures ever, but also expand their Pokemon experience to the Nintendo 3DS with Pokemon Dream Radar,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “No matter whether people are playing on Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS, they’ll be getting an incredible Pokemon experience that expands upon the beloved Pokemon Black Version and Pokemon White Version games.”

It’s Pokemadness!

Circle Pad Pro will be available for 3DS XL

If you were worried that Nintendo’s 3DS XL would be too big to receive its own version of the Circle Pad Pro, fear not, a second stick attachment is in the works for the massive handheld.

The news comes from the latest issue of Famitsu, so the Circle Pad Pro XL (or whatever they end up calling it) is currently only scheduled for release in Japan. But an American release (sometime on or after the XL’s August 19 launch) seems likely.

Activision announces Wreck-It Ralph tie-in game

Normally, when Activision announces they’re producing a video game tied to a film, I shrug with a certain sadness. It is a shrug that says “Haven’t they given up the ghost?”

But Wreck-It Ralph managed to stop me mid-shrug, because the concept of the Disney film may work in the game’s favour. In a nutshell, Ralph is an arcade bad-guy, who sets out to prove that he can be a good guy. The game itself will take the form of a 2D side-scrolling beat’em up in a similar fashion to classics like Double Dragon or the recent game based on cult comic film adaptation Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. Activison Publishing Executive VP David Oxford certainly sees it that way:

“Wreck-It Ralph, as a brand entity, is perfectly suited for video game stardom. With the fantastic characters and creative atmosphere envisioned by Walt Disney Animation Studios, we know fans are going to love seeing their newfound favorite characters embark on an all-new side scrolling adventure.”

The company is clearly targeting the film’s audience, choosing to release Wreck-It Ralph exclusively on Nintendo systems (DS, 3DS, and Wii). The game will take place after the events of the film, with the Wii version offering a classic two-player co-op mode, with Ralph’s friend Fix-It Felix as the other character. The game will hit stores around November 2, when the film is rampaging into cinemas.

Nintendo launching 3DS XL (with only one analog stick) on August 19

Nintendo’s latest Nintendo Direct presentation has just ended and Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has just given us our first look at the 3DS’ first hardware revision. In an absolutely shocking twist, the handheld’s new form still only has one analog stick!

But enough of what it doesn’t have, what is does have is actually kind of impressive. The screens are 90% larger than the ones on the original 3DS and the handheld will be bundled with a 4GB SD card. It’ll also feature increased battery life (6-10 hours) and a choice of two colors: red or blue. The 3DS XL will be released on August 19 and will retail for $199.99. Yup, definitely impressive…

But the lack of a second analog stick still just baffles me. And can you imagine this beast with it’s own Circle Pad Pro attachment? Something tells me Nintendo has given up on the idea of a twin-stick handheld.

Namco Bandai developing Super Smash Bros. 4

Nintendo will hold their next Nintendo Direct address at midnight tonight, but first, they put on a similar show for Japanese audiences and revealed a bit more about Super Smash Bros. 4.

First announced during last year’s E3 Expo, Super Smash Bros. 4 is in the works for the Wii U and 3DS… but not at Nintendo. Company President Satoru Iwata revealed that Namco Bandai has been recruited to develop the game, which will be produced by Masaya Kobayashi, who was formerly head of the Ridge Racer team. But don’t worry, series creator Masahiro Sakurai is also onboard as the Director of Super Smash Bros. 4.

Development on Super Smash Bros. 4 is still likely in the early stages, so it may be a while before we learn more.

Nintendo Download: Double Dragon II, Order Up!!, more

Few games hooked me in my formative years like Double Dragon II: The Revenge for the NES did. Now, a new age of gamers will be able to experience it because Nintendo added it to the Wii’s Virtual Console shop today. OK, I doubt a “new age of gamers” even knows who the Lee brothers are, but I can dream can’t I? If nothing else, it’ll be a good warm-up for this Summer’s Double Dragon: Neon.

Here’s what else Nintendo has added to their trio of download services on this sunny Summer day:

Order Up!! (3DS eShop) – Experience the dizzying life of a top-notch chef and restaurateur. Prepare all manner of exotic food on your way to building your own restaurant empire from the ground up.

Slitherlink by Nikoli (3DS eShop) – Slitherlink is a puzzle in which you connect dots with a line according to the rules. The greatest attraction is the fact that there exist an unlimited number of set sequences known as “theorems.”

Jewel Legends: Tree of Life (DSiWare) – Using building materials, jewels and other valuables, switch two adjacent tiles to make a row of three or more matching tiles!

Lola’s Fruit Shop Sudoku (DSiWare) – Lola Panda does it again… making it fun to develop logical thinking! Now kids can enjoy the fun and challenge of Sudoku in a form especially designed for them.

Save the Furries (WiiWare) – Help Save the Furries across 60 levels in this puzzle-adventure! Furries are cute green creatures that like to visit strange planets and then stroll about oblivious to the dangers around them.
