Original Zelda game coming to 3DS; Majora’s Mask remake still being considered
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is just a few weeks away, but Nintendo plans to keep the Zelda train rolling with an original 3DS game (that’s not a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, which features an actual Zelda train) and possibly a Majora’s Mask remake.
Speaking to Portugese game site MyGames, series Producer Eiji Aonuma revealed that pre-production work on the next Zelda game, which will be a totally original tale for the 3DS, has begun:
“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS. We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds.”
And what about Majora’s Mask? Aonuma had this to say about a 3DS remake of the divisive N64 entry in the series:
“It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.”

Nintendo Download: 1950s Lawn Mower Kids, Balloon Kid, more
It’s Thursday, so Nintendo has updated their trio of download services with a new smattering of games that are all about the kids:
1950s Lawn Mower Kids (DSiWare) – Help Tom, Nancy and Tim mow lawns among UFOs, people, dogs, ducks, cats and birds. Avoid mowing down flower beds or crashing into tables and angry animals.
Balloon Kid (3DS eShop) – Save your brother from peril by floating through eight different stages as you follow his trail of balloons. Test your piloting skills to avoid enemies, or let go of your balloons to face enemies on the ground.
Gnomz (WiiWare) – Welcome to the world of Gnomz, an exciting new arcade fighter for the WiiWare service. Battle in 25 action-packed arenas and discover magical power-ups, flying elephants, rainbows and glowing reindeer.
House M.D. – Episode 4: Crashed (DSiWare) – Dr. Gregory House and his elite diagnostic team race against the clock to unravel a new medical mystery. An aging reality- TV host seems to care less about his own health than his fame and reputation. Track down the correct diagnosis by interviewing and examining the patient, running lab tests, searching locations and even performing surgery.
More information on all of these games can be found within the Nintendo Download weekly newsletter.
New Releases: Uncharted 3, Sonic Generations, GoldenEye 007 Reloaded, More

November is here, and with it, the Fall gaming rush goes into overdrive.
This week sees the release of the PS3-exclusive Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Naughty Dog’s latest Nathan Drake adventure promises to be its biggest yet. In fact, it’s so big, it’s off the charts (rimshot).
The rest of this week’s new releases are a throwback to a simpler time including…
- A high definition remake of GoldenEye, GoldenEye 007: Reloaded (PS3, Xbox 360)
- Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic meeting for the first time in Sonic Generations (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
- The Lord of the Rings: War in the North (PC, PS3, Xbox 360), another LOTR action-RPG.
- Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water, there’s another Jaws game, Jaws: Ultimate Predator (3DS, Wii)
- And finally, there’s a new Oregon Trail game for the 3DS and Wii
For the non-throwback minded, there’ll also be an NCIS (PC, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360) game available in stores this week.
Check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)

3DS eShop getting demos, add-on content, sleep mode downloads, web store

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed big plans for 3DS eShop during the company’s most recent financial briefing.
According to Iwata, the next 3DS system update will add a boatload of functionality to the eShop including the ability for publishers to create add-on game content and game demos. The 3DS system itself will also become capable of performing downloads in Sleep Mode. That’s right, no more staring at the screen as you wait for your Game Boy Classics to download. This update is scheduled for the end of November.
Finally, a future 3DS system update will make the eShop accessible online so gamers will be able to browse and purchase downloadable titles from their PC or smartphone.
It’s probably too early to start shouting “Nintendo is working on a 3DS eShop iPhone app!” But Iwata certainly makes that sound like Nintendo’s next move.
BurgerTime Deluxe added to 3DS eShop
Order up! Everyone’s favorite food preparation sim, BurgerTime Deluxe, has been added to the 3DS eShop.
The Game Boy classic will be joined in the 3DS eShop by Pyraminds, a puzzle=platformer set among the great pyramids, and two new DSiWare games: Academy: Checkers, which is pretty self-explanatory, and Halloween: Trick or Treat, an adventure game that’s perfect for the spookiest time of the year.
On the WiiWare side of things we have Anima: Ark of Sinners. Based on the tabletop RPG “Anima: Beyond Fantasy,” Ark of Sinners is a side-scrolling action game that looks pretty badass.
Hulu Plus coming to 3DS, Wii; more features announced for 3DS
Nintendo has made a big, if unsurprising, announcement: Hulu Plus is coming to the 3DS and the Wii. Hulu Plus – which costs $7.99 a month – is host to dozens of current and popular seasons of television shows from all the major channels.
In addition, Nintendo also announced some major additions to the 3DS. 3DS owners will now be able to record up to 10 minutes of 3D videos, opening up venues for all manner of creative endeavors – including 3D stop-motion animation videos. There are also new musical artists coming to Nintendo Video, including Foster the People’s “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls),” as well as a new animated 3D video from Dreamworks called “Thriller” which features characters from Shrek. New puzzles will also be available in the Mii Plaza, and a new dungeon added to Find Mii.
Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, said, “Nintendo 3DS continues to evolve with great new features and functions designed to reinforce its position as a premiere entertainment device. All of these features, in addition to great upcoming games like Pokémon Rumble Blast on October 24, Super Mario 3D Land on November 13 and Mario Kart 7 on December 4, make Nintendo 3DS a smart gift option this holiday season.”
Still want more? Nintendo also announced four new games – Freakyforms, Pushmo, Swapnote, and Dillon’s Rolling Western. The system update to the 3DS will be happening at the end of November, and Hulu Plus will be coming “soon.” Hit the jump for a complete description of the four new games. (more…)

New Releases: Battlefield 3, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, Pokemon Rumble Blast, More

The war begins this week as DICE’s Battlefield 3 will be published by EA on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will have two weeks by itself on store shelves before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 returns fire on November 8. Have you chosen a side yet?
Also available this week is a Kirby game that we all thought was cancelled back in the GameCube days, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land. It’ll be available on the Wii this week, and yes, that’s Kirby wearing a Link hat and wielding a sword that looks suspiciously like the Master Sword. Nintendo will also unleash the melee-battling of Pokemon Rumble Blast on the 3DS.
A ton of smaller games will also make it onto store shelves this week including Namco Bandai’s Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3, Xbox 360), Sega’s The House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut (PS3), Disney’s Disney Universe (PC, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360), Atlus’s The Cursed Crusade (PS3, Xbox 360) and Telltale’s Back to the Future (PS3, Wii).
