All of this week’s DSiWare offerings can also be downloaded from the 3DS eShop, which receives one exclusive of its own: the Game Boy classic Tennis.

BioShock Infinite and Uncharted 3 lead Game Critics Awards Best of E3 2011 nominees

Game Critics Awards have announced the nominees for E3 2011 and while none of them are surprising, it does give a glimpse of what the biggest games are going to be in the coming year.

BioShock Infinite and Uncharted 3 lead the pack with four nominations a piece, while fan favorites like Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City sit among the next tier with three nominations each. As far as publishers go, Electronic Arts and Sony Computer Entertainment lead the industry with a commendable fourteen nominations each, while the Xbox 360 holds the most nominations on a platform, with a whopping 55 total. Ironically, the PlayStation Vita debuted with seven, while the well-established Wii only garnered two, down twelve from last year’s awards.

After multiple delays, FEAR 3 will be scaring gamers on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this week. The game was developed by Day 1 Studios, who took over for original developer Monolith Soft. FEAR 3 will be joined in stores this week by another threequel that has switched developers: Dungeon Siege III (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). Sequels aren’t the only games releasing this week as EA will be bringing Shadows of the Damned to the PS3 and Xbox 360. A collaboration between Grasshoper Manufacture’s Suda 51 and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, the hellbound tale will be nothing if not original. The A-Z of E3 2011

This year’s E3 Expo was probably best characterized by the nearly complete lack of surprises that emerged from the show floor. Nearly every game on display had been announced ahead of time and the ones that weren’t (like Super Smash Bros. 4 for the Wii U) are just words in a press release. And speaking of the Wii U, Nintendo’s next system lost some of its luster after the console’s entire feature set leaked online before E3… but the tablet controller certainly has potential.

And here’s a bunch of other games that have potential too. (more…)

New Releases: Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D, Duke Nukem Forever, Alice Madness Returns, More

14 years, 1 month and 17 days.

That’s how long Duke Nukem Forever has been in development. An actual war against aliens that stole our babes wouldn’t take that long. But after the countless delays, the constant cries of “vaporware” and the empty promises of George Broussard… it’s finally here. And that’s all that matters because I always bet on Duke.

Interestingly enough, Duke Nukem isn’t the only oldtime franchise being resurrected this week. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, the fourth version of the classic game, will be available this week for the 3DS. Think about that, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998 and has been remade three times since Duke Nukem Forever was announced. Amazing.

And now that E3 is over, publishers are pushing out a ton of other big titles as well, including…

Mario Kart 3DS trailer features high-flying fun

Nintendo is bringing their biggest franchises to the 3DS in a big way and the new Mario Kart 3DS that debuted at this year’s E3 Expo promises several new ways to play the game.

Mario Kart 3DS adds gliders to every kart so Mario, Bowswer, Peach and all the rest can float after a big jump. Each kart is also equipped with a propellor allowing some races to take place underwater. Nintendo has given kart customization an overhaul as players will be able to choose a body and tires for their kart independent of their racer. Even something old is new again as coins are back for the first time since Mario Kart: Super Circuit.

Familiar tracks round out the Mario Kart 3DS with ghost houses, highways and desert tracks all visible. It also looks like we’ll be racing on an airship when the game ships to stores sometime this year.
