New Retail Releases: Mass Effect Andromeda, Mario Sports Superstars, Zero Escape The Nonary Games, More

Venture into new worlds with this week’s new retail releases…
BioWare will help Mass Effect fans explore the unexplored this week thanks to the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Leaving behind the rest of the universe, players will visit the Andromeda galaxy and discover “rich, alien worlds in the search for humanity’s new home.”
Mario and friends will also get to try new things this week in the biggest “Mario Sports” game ever. Coming to the 3DS on Friday, Mario Sports Superstars will include Mario-themed versions of baseball, golf, tennis, horse racing, and soccer. The game will also feature support for a new line of Amiibo Cards that’ll power up your favorite athlete in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Oculus VR owners will be able to become a different kind of superstar this week with the release of Rock Band VR. Harmonix’s latest rhythm game will offer “unprecedented stage presence” in virtual reality and a brand new soundtrack.
But if you’re worried about stage fright and would much prefer to battle giant beasts, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force will release Toukiden 2 for the PS4 and Vita. And if you’d rather explore a more familiar world, Aksys Games will bundle together Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Virtue’s Last Reward for the PS4 and Vita in Zero Escape: The Nonary Games.
You can find even more new releases after the break. (more…)
Nintendo Download: Binding of Isaac Aftermath+, World of Goo, Picross 3D, more
The Switch’s lineup of games continues to grow with five new releases as part of today’s Nintendo Download.
First up, we’ve got Binding of Isaac Aftermath+, an action-packed dungeon-crawler from Nicalis and Edmund McMillen. The procedurally-generated roguelike includes “more than 11,000 unique room configurations” and “a nearly endless variety of enemies, items, challenges, and secrets.”
Also available to download this week is a trio of Wii and Wii U re-releases from Tomorrow Corporation. Switch owners will be able to pick up physics-based puzzler World of Goo, fireplace adventure Little Inferno, or “puzzle game for nerds” Human Resource Machine. And speaking of re-releases, SNK and Hamster Corporation will bring The King of Fighters ’94, the first game in the King of Fighters franchise, to the Switch.
Nintendo will also add Picross 3D, which was originally released for the DS in 2010, to the Wii U eShop.

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment Review: Death Takes Over in a Perfect Prequel

Yacht Club Games has built a strong reputation over the years for their ability to deconstruct, modernize, and regenerate the side-scrolling platformer. Using Ducktales and Mega Man as a template, the original Shovel Knight was a game that honored the past, while only being able to exist in the present. Meanwhile, its first expansion, Plague of Shadows, brought back the gadget platformer in a unique adventure that felt more like a true sequel than an add-on.
The developer must have had the same thought, as Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment is the first game in the franchise’s rapidly-growing expanded universe to be available as a standalone game as well as a free expansion. Widening their playing field has also lead Yacht Club to tackle the cinematic storytelling and swordplay found in the NES era’s ninja platformers, best exemplified by Ninja Gaiden. (more…)

Culdcept Revolt’s Limited Edition will be sold exclusively through the NIS America Online Store. Players who purchase the premium version of the newest entry in a franchise that melds Monopoly with Magic: The Gathering will receive the following extra items:
Culdcept Revolt Limited Edition

- Oversized Foil Cards (Set of 7)
- Metal Culdcept Revolt Dice (Set of 2)

Two new Mario Sports Superstars trailers now available ahead of March 24 launch

Mario Sports Superstars will be released for the 3DS in North America beginning next week, which makes now the perfect time for Nintendo to release two new trailers for the multi-sport package.
Nintendo of America has decided to focus on the “5 Sports in 1 Game” aspect of Mario Sports Superstars, and their trailer highlights the Mushroom Kingdom’s obsession with soccer, baseball, tennis, horse racing, and golf.
Meanwhile, Mario Sports Superstars is already available in the UK and Australia, so Nintendo UK produced a “Launch Trailer” that features more gameplay footage, as well as a look at extra capabilities that can only be unlocked by a new series of Amiibo Cards.
Both trailers for Mario Sports Superstars can be found after the break. (more…)

Nintendo Download: Blaster Master Zero, NeoGeo Games on Switch, Voez, more
Week Two of the Switch era begins for Nintendo, and the consolemaker is kicking it off with the launch of eight new games for the console as part of this week’s Nintendo Download.
Inti Creates leads the way with Blaster Master Zero, their retro-styled reboot of the popular NES action game. The side-scroller/overhead hybrid is also available to download for the 3DS.
Also available to download for the Switch today is Voez, a rhythm game that is only playable through the console’s Handheld Mode. But those who decide to tap on the notes in the correct sequence will help six high school students achieve international fame with their band.
Finally, Hamster Corporation will re-release six NeoGeo classics on the Switch this week as part of their Arcade Archives series. Each game is priced at $7.99, and the list of available titles includes The King of Fighters ’98, Metal Slug 3, World Heroes Perfect, Nam-1975, Shock Troopers, and Waku Waku 7.
And don’t think Nintendo forgot about the Wii U. Bomberman 64, which was originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, was added to the Wii U’s Virtual Console service today.
You can learn more about all of these games (and a few other new releases) after the break. (more…)

Uncharted 4 leads all games at the 2017 BAFTA Games Awards with 8 nominations

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominees for the 2017 Games Awards, which will be handed out in a special ceremony in London on April 6. Viewers at home will be able to watch a livestream of ceremony through BAFTA’s Twitch channel.
This year’s top nominee is Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which scored eight nominations including “Game of the Year.” Nathan Drake’s final adventure will also compete in the “Artistic Achievement,” “Audio Achievement,” “Music,” and “Narrative” categories, as well as with three separate nominations in the “Performer” category (Troy Baker, Nolan North, and Emily Rose).
Uncharted 4 will fight for BAFTA’s “Game of the Year” honor against five other critically-acclaimed games from 2016 including Campo Santo’s Firewatch, Playdead’s Inside, Blizzard’s Overwatch, Concerned Ape’s Stardew Valley, and Respawn’s Titanfall 2.
The complete list of nominees in all categories can be found after the break. (more…)

Nintendo Download: Zelda Breath of the Wild, Shovel Knight, Super Bomberman R, more

The Nintendo Switch is here!
Nintendo’s next gaming machine, a hybrid console/handheld, will go on sale in just a little over three hours. That’s also when Nintendo will swing the doors open on the Switch’s eShop and give early adopters the chance to purchase nearly a dozen different launch titles.
The biggest name in the Switch’s launch lineup, by far, is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Also available to download on the Wii U, Breath of the Wild will offer a wide-open world for Link to explore and new puzzles to solve.
However, if you’re looking to celebrate the system’s launch with a big party, you’ll have several options. There’s 1-2-Switch, a wild minigame collection where players are encouraged to look at each other instead of the screen. There’s also Snipperclips: Cut It Out Together!, a co-op puzzle adventure starring two pieces of paper. And Ubisoft will bring the popular Just Dance series to the Switch with Just Dance 2017.
Prospective Switch players who want to be on the move might want to look into FAST RMX, a new futuristic racer from Shin’en Multimedia.
Finally, retro gaming fans will have plenty of options on the Switch’s first day including Yacht Club’s new platformer, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, as well as the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, which includes Specter of Torment and the first two campaigns. Konami’s Super Bomberman R brings the lovable Bombers back for the first time in almost a decade. And I Am Setsuna, from Square Enix, is an original RPG inspired by Chrono Trigger.
If you’re taking a wait and see approach to the Switch, never fear, 3DS owners will still have something new to play this week. Marvelous Entertainment’s Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns is the latest entry in the popular farming simulation series and, as you might have guessed, players will be able to visit three towns this time around.
You can learn more about all of these games after the break. (more…)
