Electronic Arts has announced that they’ll once again play host to EA Play, their E3-adjacent mini-conference, in Los Angeles this June.
The publisher will take over the Hollywood Palladium from June 10th through the 12th, and tickets will go on sale at noon (Eastern Time) on April 20. EA also wants to connect to their fans who can’t make it to LA, and they’re planning to broadcast multiple live reports from the show floor at EA.com.
EA Play will give in-person attendees and viewers at home a first look at the publisher’s upcoming slate of games including Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Need For Speed 2017, Madden NFL 18, FIFA 18, and NBA Live 18.
And as you might have guessed, several surprise announcements are also being lined up for EA Play.

Quake Champions’s “Burial Chamber” Arena looks like it was ripped right out of Doom
A new trailer from Bethesda Softworks and id Software recently unveiled “Burial Chamber,” another Arena set to be included in Quake Champions. While previously-released video footage of the free-to-play shooter had some similarities to last year’s Doom reboot, this Arena looks like it was teleported in directly from the bowels of Hell:
Arena: Burial Chamber
The bones of a massive beast decorate the entry to this massive tomb. Hazardous platforms at the Perilous Outcropping dot the sea of lava, providing an ideal sniping spot for those skilled enough and brave enough to make the leap. With its winding tunnels and low ceilings, the claustrophobic grave sites of the Molten Underground offer up the opportunity for heavier Champions to do some serious splash damage, while the Lava Falls could provide an excellent chokepoint for skilled tacticians. Just be careful to avoid being pushed into the lava, which is a prevalent threat throughout the map.
Quake Champions will be available later this year, but the developers are currently seeking participants for an upcoming Closed Beta. If you’re interested in trying out Quake Champions before its official release, you can sign up for a chance to receive an invitation at Bethesda.net.

Telltale unveils Launch Trailer for The Walking Dead: A New Frontier’s third episode
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier – Episode 3: Above the Law will make its downloadable debut for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices on March 28. Naturally, this is the perfect time for Telltale Games to unveil the Launch Trailer for the third chapter in their episodic series:
Javier struggles to find a role in his newly reunited family. Meanwhile, tension within the walls of Richmond grow. Will Clementine and the rest of the group turn against Javier? It may be time to choose between the family you’re born into and the family you’ve made…
In case you missed it, Telltale also released a short clip from “Above the Law” during this year’s PAX East convention.
Kickstart This! Pine

Those of you who were hoping for a game based around the life of Star Trek captain and Wonder Woman love interest Chris Pine are going to be sorely disappointed, and then pleasantly surprised, with Pine. This Kickstarter campaign launched just as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Horizons: Zero Dawn landed on shelves, reinvigorating the open world adventure genre, and leaving gamers ready to embark on another big quest. Pine limits its open world by setting it on an island, a smart design choice for an indie open world game, but more intriguingly, it asks the question, “What if man never made it to the top of the food chain?”

CoD: Modern Warfare Remastered’s Variety Map Pack is now available for the PS4
As promised, PS4 players can download the Variety Map Pack in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered beginning today.
Priced at $14.99, the Variety Map Pack includes the four multiplayer maps that were originally released as downloadable content for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2008. Players who purchase the expansion will receive 10 Rare Supply Drops.
To go along with today’s launch, Activision also released a brand new trailer showcasing the improved visuals in the Variety Map Pack’s four maps:
Multiplayer Maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered’s Variety Map Pack
- Broadcast: Based on the TV station from the campaign mission “Charlie Don’t Surf,” this map provides a unique blend of confined corridors and wide-open spaces. Outside the station, the parking lot contains long sightlines, but once inside, cramped hallways and a computer-cluttered broadcast room provide ample close-range combat opportunities.
- Chinatown: Set in a foggy downtown district, this nighttime map is lit up by flickering neon signs and a full moon. A re-imagining of the original Call of Duty multiplayer map “Carentan,” players will need to be careful on these streets, as almost every building in the map can be occupied, providing perfect cover for enemies waiting for a chance to line you up in their sights.
- Creek: Set in a wide-open village ravaged by combat where concealment is the difference between life and death, a gaping ravine divides this map into two. Open clearings with sheer cliff faces and ample forested cover make this map ideal for snipers and long-range firefights.
- Killhouse: A small training warehouse filled with various building mock ups that feature soft and hard cover points. Expect fast-paced and fierce firefights for maximum close-quarters chaos.
PC and Xbox One players will likely be able to download Call of Duty: Mordern Warfare Remastered’s Variety Map Pack sometime in April.

Play as Orisa in Overwatch beginning today
Overwatch players can now choose from 24 different Heroes before each match, as Blizzard added Orisa to the game on all platforms earlier today. According to her profile on PlayOverwatch.com, Orisa is a robotic centaur with a defensive-minded play style, but don’t worry, her attacks also pack a wallop:
Orisa’s Abilities
- Fusion Driver: Orisa’s automatic projectile cannon delivers sustained damage, but slows her movement while she fires it.
- Fortify: Orisa temporarily reduces damage she takes, and cannot be affected by action-impairing effects.
- Halt!: Orisa launches a graviton charge which she can detonate, slowing nearby enemies and pulling them towards the explosion.
- Protective Barrier: Orisa throws out a stationary barrier that can protect her and her allies from enemy fire.
- Supercharger: Orisa deploys a device to increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight.
Blizzard also released a new trailer for Overwatch featuring Orisa, and it’s been embedded above for your viewing pleasure.
Square Enix offers Spring 2017 Surprise Box featuring five PC games

Is your Steam library looking a little thin? Do you need some new PC games to play that might be worth playing? Good news… Square Enix wants to help.
Today, the publisher announced they have begun taking pre-orders for the “Spring 2017” edition of the Square Enix Surprise Box. The Spring 2017 Surprise Box retails for $9.99, but will include “over $80 worth” of content, and players who purchase the bundle will receive five PC games through Steam, five Square Enix Rewards Points, plus some form of exclusive promotional deal that is “too good to miss out on.”
As for which games players will receive, well, that remains a mystery. However, Square Enix claims they’ll be “exciting” titles. If you’d prefer to hold out on making your purchase until Square Enix announces the contents of the Spring 2017 Surprise Box, I’m sad to inform you that won’t be possible. Square Enix will officially announce the Spring 2017 Surprise Box contents on March 30, at 7:00 AM (Eastern Time), however, they’re closing pre-orders on March 29, at 7:00 AM (Eastern Time). So if you want to take the gamble, be sure to do so before it’s too late.
As with any blind purchase, there’s a chance that you’ll receive something that you don’t actually want. But for $9.99, there’s not much risk involved. So if you’re looking to replace your scheduled Spring cleaning with some Spring gaming, this might be a surprise worth getting excited for.
Metalhead Software gives 110% in Super Mega Baseball 2’s “Customization Gameplay” Trailer
Baseball sims have made customizing players and teams a big part of the experience since the days of SNK’s Baseball Stars and Nintendo’s Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball. Metalhead Software plans to continue this tradition in Super Mega Baseball 2, and the developer released a brand new “Customization Gameplay” trailer today highlighting the many ways that players will be able to make the game their own.
Players can start by building their own leagues, specifying the total number of teams and the divisional alignment (though the entire process can also be automated). From there, they’ll be able to rename each team and redesign their logos (using a set of fully editable pre-made templates), as well as sketch out the uniforms.
Every aspect of each individual player can also be customized. Dozens of options are listed in the trailer, and players will be able to customize their physique, personality, gender, and how thick they like their Eye Black.
Super Mega Baseball 2 will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this Summer.
