Legendary and Square Enix will produce a live-action adaptation of Life Is Strange

Legendary Entertainment has been bitten hard by the video game adaptation bug. Warcraft opened in theaters earlier this Summer, and more recently, the studio signed a deal with The Pokemon Company to produce a movie based on Detective Pikachu.
Now, they’ve set their sights on Dontnod’s Life Is Strange.
Square Enix has announced they’re teaming up with Legendary Digital Studios and DJ2 Entertainment to produce a live-action webseries based on Life Is Strange. Like the game, the adaptation will follow teenage photographer Max Caulfield as she learns to deal with her newly-discovered time travel powers in the face of apocalyptic visions.
In other coincidentally recent Life Is Strange news, Square Enix and Dontnod re-released the game’s first episode as a free download last week.
“Life is Strange is one of those rare properties that combines incredibly developed characters and storylines with deeply engaging gameplay,” said Greg Siegel, the Senior Vice President of Development and Production for Legendary Digital Studios. “It lends itself perfectly to live-action imaginings. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Square Enix, Dontnod Entertainment, and DJ2 to bring the world of Arcadia Bay to life in an exciting new way.”
The search is currently on for a screenwriter, so hopefully we’ll learn more about Life Is Strange’s live-action adaptation soon.
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition officially announced for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U

The apocalypse is being remastered once more… Nordic Games announced today that Darksiders will be re-released for the PC, PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One as Darksiders: Warmastered Edition.
In Darksiders, players saddle up as the first Horseman, War, and roam scorched Earth in search of the shadowy cabal that kickstarted the end of the world. The Warmastered Edition takes the original game and polishes it using improved graphical rendering to present its revelation in 60FPS (30 FPS on the Wii U) with 1080p visuals, better shadow quality, doubled resolution on all textures, and new post-processing effects. Basically, it’ll be a much prettier apocalypse.
The Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is expected to be available this Fall, though Nordic Games would only say that its release date is “Coming Soon.”
Hello Games encourages players to “Fight,” “Trade,” “Survive” in No Man’s Sky
Hello Games recently released the final three videos in their Four Pillars of No Man’s Sky series.
“Video 2: Fight” gives the promise of “epic space battles” with lots of explosions and color in the sky, and a battle for survival when you’re planetside. In “Video 3: Trade,” players can “gather natural resources” that you can then travel the galaxy to buy and sell. “Every trade tells a story,” the trailer boasts. And “Video 4: Survive” shows the “hostile environments” and “deadly lifeforms” that will keep you on your toes. Watch out for those rads – I mean, that radiation!
No Man’s Sky will be out on August 9th for the PlayStation 4 and August 12th on PC. Hit the jump to see the three videos. (more…)

1992 Dream Team and 2016 USA Basketball team will take the court in NBA 2K17

2K Games wants fans to go for the gold this Fall as they’ve announced plans to add the 2016 USA Basketball Men’s National Team that’ll compete in this Summer’s Olympics and the 1992 “Dream Team” to NBA 2K17:
Comprised of NBA Hall of Famers, including Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone and David Robinson, the 1992 “Dream Team” is universally considered one of, if not the greatest, team ever assembled in basketball history. Fans will be able to pit that roster against this year’s athletes on the USAB Men’s National Team, which includes NBA 2K17 cover athlete Paul George and Team 2K athletes Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, and Kyrie Irving.
The 2016 USA Basketball Men’s National Team will be included in the main game and available to everyone who purchases NBA 2K17, but the 1992 “Dream Team” will only be available as bonus content for fans who pre-order.
2K Games also confirmed that Mike Krzyzewski, Coach K to friends and fans, will appear on the sidelines coaching the 2016 USA Basketball Men’s National Team. Krzyzewski stepped into a motion capture booth for his NBA 2K debut and he’ll also appear in a revamped Tutorial Mode that focuses on “teaching fundamental basketball strategies including pick and roll execution, proper defensive positioning, ball movement, boxing out, court awareness, and more.”
NBA 2K17 will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 20. However, everyone who pre-orders will receive access to a special “Tip-Off Edition” that’ll be released on September 16.
Kickstart This! Columnae: A Past Under Construction

As I was discussing last time around on Kickstart This! with regards to Mighty No.9, nostalgia can be a powerful thing, but also something that potentially cripples any chance of success should it not rekindle that warm fuzzy glow from your childhood memories.
So when Nightdive Studios launched a Kickstarter campaign for a remake of classic horror FPS System Shock, I was of two minds whether to recommend it or not. It has enough fans to have passed its hefty $900,000 target, but will it be as good as promised? I’m more than hopeful. For one, Nightdive released a demo to persuade people to back the game, but the pitch video takes a very satirical approach, and the dark humour makes me believe it may just live up to expectations. Go check it out, especially if you are thinking of launching a campaign, as it is well crafted.
But System Shock has its money in the bag, so I wanted to recommend something that needs your cash to succeed. I originally thought about Prey for the Gods, which looks like a close sibling to Shadow of the Colossus with the added benefit of a grappling hook to help you climb the giant gods that you must destroy. It looks amazing, and worthy of the comparisons to Shadow of the Colossus as well as your donations. However, it is getting a lot of global press, and is well on its way to reaching its $300,000 goal, so I wanted to highlight a little gem from the Belgrade-based Moonburnt Studio that may need more help to hit its target. Square Enix will bring “new announcements and reveals” and 15 playable demos to Gamescom 2016

The Comic-Con booth has been broken down, so it’s on to the next Summer showcase for Square Enix. This morning, the publisher announced they’ll have 15 titles on display at this year’s Gamescom convention, which will kick off in Cologne, Germany on August 19.
Square Enix plans to have a massive presence on the show floor including multiple booths packed with more than 220 demo stations and totaling 1,100 square meters of space. These screens will be equipped with many of the company’s 2016 and 2017 offerings including Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Dragon Quest Builders, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and World of Final Fantasy . A portion of the booth will also be devoted to “Square Enix Collective” titles, and another section will tout the publisher’s “new announcements and reveals.”
What are they announcing? We’ll have to wait until August to find out for sure, but for now, you can peruse Square Enix’s complete Gamescom lineup after the break. (more…)
Telltale reveals new screenshots and details from The Walking Dead Season 3

Telltale Games revealed a bit more about The Walking Dead Season 3 during their trip to the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Creative Director Dennis Lenart was joined by Melissa Hutchison (the voice actress behind Clementine) held a panel for fans and shared a new poster, new screenshots, and new details on how the third season will play out, including a little about how the two playable characters will interact:
In [the] first shot, you’ll see Javier and Clementine making their way through a walker-infested slaughterhouse. Remember, you’ll be playing as both characters, although you may not be playing each character within the same frame of time…
Lenart also discussed the importance of playing as Javier, and how the team was able to create a character without any prior relationship with Clementine. This will provide an interesting opportunity for players to meet a character they may have helped shape. They’ll also have a chance to play as a survivor fresh to the series, who is currently struggling to keep his family together in the face of the undead apocalypse.
The panelists also discussed the story structure for Season 3 and how it’ll morph depending upon if players are new to the series versus those who have imported their choices from Season 1 and Season 2:
Another unique aspect of this third season is that while it absolutely continues the story of the previous two seasons, it also serves as a new entry point for fans who’ve yet to be caught up to speed. Players starting with this third season will be introduced to young survivor AJ, who fans will recognize as the son of Rebecca from Season Two – and we can confirm that he will be making an appearance in this season as well. So players who are new to the series will have a chance to learn more about Clementine’s backstory, while at the same time, those who have played previous seasons will have a story that’s uniquely tailored to the diverging paths they’ve taken in the past.
The first episode from The Walking Dead Season 3 will be released this Fall, but you can find the new poster and screenshots after the break. (more…)

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 will be re-released for PC, PS4, Xbox One this Tuesday

Marvel is bringing back the Ultimate Alliance series this week. Announced yesterday at Comic-Con, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 will be available to download this Tuesday, July 26, for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Originally released back in 2006 and 2009, respectively, the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance series recruited characters from the entire Marvel Universe to save the world in two sprawling co-op action RPGs. Available separately for $39.99 apiece, or bundled together for $59.99, both games will be rebuilt for modern platforms with improved performance and “some UI and graphic enhancements.” While that price might seem steep, Executive Producer Mike Jones wrote on Marvel.com that fans have been asking for this re-release for a while now:
Well, it’s funny; since we started rebuilding our games strategy and going on the road to Comic Cons and gaming events like E3, we’re constantly being asked about Ultimate Alliance. “Are you guys going to do another Ultimate Alliance?” “Can you guys do a re-release of Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2?” It was actually kind of surprising how often it happens. It’s been 10 years since the series began and gamers are still as passionate about “Ultimate Alliance” today as they ever were. So we thought this would be a great way to celebrate an amazing franchise that’s about to hit its 10th anniversary. It’s a perfect time to play these games if you missed them the first time or replay with new friends and new Super Hero dream teams.
Does this re-release mean we might get Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3 someday? Jones did his part by telling fans, “Anything is possible.”
