Robotoki’s Human Element makes its debut at 2014 Game Awards

Human Element, the first game from Robert Bowling’s Robotoki studio, is barreling towards its November 2015 release date, which is now less than a year away. In honor of the inaugural Game Awards show, Bowling debuted the first trailer from the PC, PS4, and Xbox One first person shooter last night.

Set 35 years after a zombie apocalypse caused the fall of society, survivors group together in warring factions to fight zombies (and each other) for the last remaining supplies in the world.

Blood Bowl 2 coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One in Spring 2015

Blood Bowl 2 is coming, as you can see in this awesome Kick-Off Trailer. The game is the sequel to the original game based on the board game adapted as a football game from a miniatures game. Can you follow all of that?

Blood Bowl 2 will have everything you remember from the first game – Beastmen, Skaven, crippling opponents, scoring touchdowns – the usual. But Cyanide Studios is promising that the sequel “is even more ambitious than its predecessor in all aspects of the game, with numerous extra features and the highest production values.”. They’re working with a brand new engine for graphics, which you can see in the trailer. And Jim Johnson and Bob Bifford are here to commentate the game.

Blood Bowl 2 will be coming Spring 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

An InnerView with InnerSpace Director Tyler Tomaseski of PolyKnight Games

innerspace-header

The Kickstarter phenomenon has allowed those who would not have been able to follow the traditional routes of funding to realise their visions within many art forms, but this is especially true in video games. The way the project campaign is run and managed can often be the determining factor in achieving success or returning empty-handed to the drawing board. It is the final few days that are the most tense, and no one knows this better than the team behind the unique flying adventure title InnerSpace as it entered its last 48 hours with pledges covering 95% of its funding. Then, four hours later, the game managed to skip past its 100% target of $25,000 (including a pledge from myself). We caught up with Tyler Tomaseski, Director and Programmer at PolyKnight Games, to discuss the campaign, his hopes for the game now that it has been funded, and who shot JR. (more…)

Leaked trailer reveals Street Fighter V is coming to PC and PS4

streetfighterv-header

Earlier this Summer, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed that Street Fighter V was in “the early planning stages” within the walls of Capcom. This morning, Capcom accidentally posted a teaser trailer announcing the game… which is apparently exclusively in development for the PC and PS4. That’s not to say it’ll never be released for the Xbox One, but initially, Street Fighter V will only be available on those two platforms.

Capcom’s original video has since been scrubbed from the Internet, but you can still watch it over at Polygon. It’s likely that the video was meant to make its debut at tonight’s inaugural Game Awards or tomorrow’s opening day of the PlayStation Experience (which has several “To Be Announced” slots penciled in on the schedule). Both events are promising multiple surprise announcements and trailers (though one less now).

Capcom plans to promote the game by asking gamers to “Rise Up” and the trailer heavily plays up the franchise’s connection to the fighting game community. Presumably, we’ll find out exactly what these plans are within the next 24 hours.

dawn_engine_inengine_screen_1

Eidos Montreal has announced their brand new Dawn Engine, a “state of the art game engine that will be the cornerstone to the development of the Deus Ex Universe projects at the studio.” Based on their version of the Glacier 2 engine by IO Interactive, the engine “features new technology that allows for improved rendering capabilities, real-time physics, and advanced artificial intelligence programming.” They included their first screenshot, which is the image above.

David Anfossi, Studio Head at Eidos Montreal, said, “The technology behind any game is a key component in ensuring that gamers are able to develop both an emotional and visceral connection to what they are experiencing within the game world… We’ve worked tirelessly over the last few years developing this engine, building upon and improving both the visual and immersive artistry in our games. We truly believe that our engine will help us to strengthen both the gameplay and storytelling experiences we strive to create.”

The in-game screenshot above is gorgeous, and we look forward to seeing more of what the new Dawn Engine (and Deus Ex Universe) can achieve.

Kickstart This! Unsettled, Blood Star, Waking the Glares

Despite Peter Molyneux claiming that “Kickstarter is a destructive force for video games,” as it may cause developers to oversell a project (oh, the irony), the crowdfunding site still plays host to a smorgasbord of quality, undiluted games. This week on Kickstart This! we have top-down survival game Unsettled, Action-RPG Shooter Blood Star, and finally the Myst-esque FPS Waking the Glares. (more…)
