Obsidian delays Pillars of Eternity again… this time to early 2015

Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive have announced that Obsidian’s retro-styled RPG, Pillars of Eternity, has been delayed once again. In the aftermath of the game’s highly successful Kickstarter campaign, Obsidian announced that the game would launch in Spring 2014. However, a delay earlier this year pushed the game back to “late 2014.” Now, a second delay has moved Pillars of Eternity’s release into early 2015.
A statement from Obsidian and Paradox confirmed that the delay was due to a desire to address fan feedback received during the recent beta test. The developer believes these changes are necessary to “ensure fans absolutely get the best game possible”
“Since the very beginning of this project we promised our fans and ourselves that we would release this game only when we knew it would be absolutely ready for the best experience possible,” said Feargus Urquhart, the CEO of Obsidian. “We’re very close to that point, but not quite there yet. The feedback we have received through our playtest process has been invaluable to us. We are coming into the home stretch but are pushing the release out just a bit to make sure we honor that promise we made originally. Thanks for your patience and support, it will be worth the wait.”
Pillars of Eternity will be released in early 2015 exclusively for the PC.

Quan Chi will bring his sorcerer’s ways to Mortal Kombat X
After playing a huge role in 2011’s Mortal Kombat, NetherRealm has confirmed that the evil sorcerer Quan Chi will once again play a big part in Mortal Kombat X. Described by Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick as a “trickster,” Quan Chi’s three variations will rely heavily on his magical abilities.
The “Sorcerer” variation includes a series of projectile attacks as well as buff spells that strengthen his other attacks. The “Warlock” variations allows Quan Chi to create Dark Portals that allow him to toss characters around the screen in ways that are similar to Scorpion’s Teleport and Rain’s Roundhouse Kick. Finally, the “Summoner” variation will also be projectile-based, but the projectile is actually a demon that Quan Chi summons and controls.
Also, be sure to stick around for a quick look at one of Quan Chi’s Fatalities, it’s pretty great. Mortal Kombat X will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on April 14.
Kevin Smith will play himself in Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

Professional fanboy Kevin Smith will get a chance to act alongside some of his favorite comic book characters next month when he gets Lego-ized for Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. Smith will play himself alongside several other new characters announced by WB Games including Bruce Wayne (who is separate from Batman but still voiced by Tory Baker), Green Arrow (voiced by Arrow star Stephen Amell), and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns (voiced by the actual Geoff Johns). All four characters will be playable, so if you’ve ever wanted to recreate the “Fly, fatass, fly!” scene from Mallrats, now’s your chance.
Smith, Johns, Baker, and Amell will team-up to host a Lego Batman 3 panel at the New York Comic-Con on Saturday, October 11. The quartet (along with TT Games developers Arthur Parsons and Stephen Sharples) will reveal new characters and introduce brand-new gameplay videos of the game during their talk. And in case you miss the panel, WB Games will have a playable demo of Lego Batman 3 available at the DC Entertainment booth.
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will be released for the 3DS, PC, PS3 PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on November 11.
F.E.A.R. Online will be released on October 17

Aeria Games and WB Games have announced that F.E.A.R. Online will be available to download through Steam on October 17. Interested players can also sign up for an open beta, which begins October 8, on the game’s official website.
F.E.A.R. Online is a free-to-play shooter set within the F.E.A.R. universe where players will cooperatively do battle with the “unsettling experiments” created by Armacham Technology Corporation:
In F.E.A.R. Online, tensions reach a boiling point as the F.E.A.R. task force investigates Armacham Technology Corporation’s unsettling experiments. With several team combat modes spanning more than ten ominous maps, the game is packed with chilling details. The storyline continues in cooperative scenarios that detail the terrifying occurrences surrounding the F.E.A.R. team, in parallel to the events of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. Up to four players can team up and fight for their lives against both hostile Armacham personnel and hideous monsters lurking around every corner.
F.E.A.R. 3, released in 2011, was the last game in the F.E.A.R. franchise.
Joe Madureira and other ex-Vigil developers form Airship Syndicate
Joe “Joe Mad” Madureira is a pretty big name in the comics industry, having worked on multiple titles in the Marvel universe such as Deadpool, Uncanny X-Men, Avenging Spider-Man, The Ultimates, and Savage Wolverine. He was also one of the founders of Vigil Games, which developed Darksiders and Darksiders II for THQ before the publisher closed its doors in 2013. Since then, many of Vigil’s developers have found homes at Gunfire Games and the now defunct Crytek USA. Madureira himself (along with Ryan Stefanelli, Steve Madureira, and other ex-Vigil employees) has also set sail for new pastures… specifically that of Airship Syndicate.
Airship Syndicate is located in Austin, Texas and is currently gearing up to begin work on their first project. Details are pretty sparse right now, but the developer did say on their official website: “RPG? Metroidvania? Battle Chasers Open World Kart Racer? You never know. Any way you shake it, adventure is the name of the game.”
Howwever, Stefanelli told Game Informer that the team will be small, and that they plan to create, “classic experiences with a modern edge.” That’s a common refrain for indie teams these days. Stefanelli added that Airship’s first game is currently in development for the PC and consoles with Madureira chiming in to say, “the game we’re working on now isn’t [Darksiders III].”

New Releases: Super Smash Bros. 3DS, Shadow of Mordor, Forza Horizon 2, More

Phase Two of Nintendo’s plan to dominate the Fall gaming season kicks off this week as Super Smash Bros. For 3DS, the first Smash Bros. game for a handheld system, will be available on Friday, October 3. New friends (Little Mac! The Duck Hunt Dog! Miis! Mega Man! Pac-Man!) and old favorites (Mario! Link! Samus!) give it one of the deepest rosters the franchise has ever seen, making Super Smash Bros. For 3DS even more of a must have.
Also available this week is WB Games’ latest foray into the Lords of the Rings universe, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (PC, PS4, Xbox One). Set between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, Shadow of Mordor will tell a brand new tale within the franchise with assistance from Peter Jackson, J.R.R. Tolkien Enterprises, and the writer of Red Dead Redemption. Less epic (but still pretty epic) is Microsoft’s newest racing game, Forza Horizon 2, which will be released for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Finally this week, Atlus is going back to the arena to bring PS3 and Xbox 360 owners Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Fight!
More new releases (including the return of one of the greatest PC games ever) can be found after the break. (more…)

Total War: Attila will burn the world in 2015
Sega has announced that players will be able to take command of the barbarian hordes in the next Total War game, Total War: Attila. A 2015 release is planned for the PC exclusive, which is in development at Creative Assembly.
The Dark Ages approach. A time of famine, disease and war, where refugees in their thousands flee from a sweeping tide of destruction and death. Desperate barbaric tribes rally against the ailing might of a dying and divided Roman empire; the light of civilization gutters and dims. In the great steppes of Scythia, a vast and terrifying force gathers, led by a warrior king whose thirst for conquest is utterly unequaled. The Scourge of God, the very herald of the apocalypse, Attila the Hun.
“With Total War: Attila we will create a Total War game that will challenge and enthrall fans of the series,” said Janos Gaspar, Project Lead on Attila. “We’re reintroducing some features that fans have been asking for, such as family trees and skill trees, and improving many of the core aspects of Total War we know are important to them. But to really bring the period to life, we’re building on these foundations with many new strategic features for them to consider, such as advanced street-fighting, civilians, complete settlement destruction and dynamic fire that can rage across a city as armies clash. We want to push players to the limits of their skill to survive against the odds, and to love every minute of it.”
Creative Assembly will add “new gameplay mechanics which improve and add to numerous core turn-based and real-time systems” while giving players the chance to conquer the world as Attila or battle for survival as the last remnants of the Roman Empire. Either way, the game’s tagline certainly applies… “Your World Will Burn!”

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare gets “Exo Survival” co-op mode
After giving us another look at the game’s Kevin Spacey-led story campaign and the expansive new online multiplayer mode, the latest Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare trailer introduces a new co-op mode to the word: “Exo Survival.”
In Exo Survival, players are able to team up with three other players to battle back against waves of enemy soldiers and drones. It doesn’t look like Exo Survival will feature a connected story like the Extinction Mode found in last year’s Call of Duty: Ghosts or the Zombies Mode from 2012’s Black Ops II. But one could always be revealed at a future date.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be released for the PC, PS3, PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on November 4.
