Atari is remaking Alone in the Dark and Haunted House
Atari has announced plans to remake two games that are responsible for the rise of the survival horror genre, 1982’s Haunted House and 1992’s Alone in the Dark. Both games will be available this Fall, exclusively for the PC.
The Haunted House remake will simply be titled Haunted House and is in development at Dreampainters Software. The team is best known for the indie horror hit Anna.
Meanwhile, Alone in the Dark will be remade as Alone in the Dark: Illumination by Pure FPS. The team currently has no history and no official website, so they’re a bit of a mystery.
Both games will be playable at this year’s PAX Prime convention, which will be held in Seattle from August 29 through September 1. The publisher will also be showcasing their free-to-play FPS Minimum and a pair of upcoming RollerCoaster sims: RollerCoaster Tycoon World for the PC and RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile for mobile devices.

Here, have 35 minutes of The Witcher 3 from CD Projekt RED
CD Projekt RED, The developer of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has just released a 35-minute gameplay demo of the highly anticipated game.
The video opens with Geralt riding up to, and then exploring the city of Novigrad, sometime after killing the griffin seen in the E3 gameplay trailer. Afterwards, Geralt sets out to continue on his quest, where we get to see how the fast travel system works. Developers from CD Projekt RED are also on hand to provide commentary on the video’s content.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to release across the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms on February 24, 2015.

Indie Megabooth lineup for PAX Prime 2014 announced
After a successful trip across the Atlantic, the Indie Megabooth is coming back to North America with a massive PAX Prime 2014 installation. But before I begin this news article, I’d like to congratulate Warp Zoned’s Nicole Kline and Anthony Amato, who will be sitting in with this iteration of the Indie Megabooth with their card game, Resistor.
But if you’re looking for some video games, there are plenty of great titles on display. All told, 78 games will be available within the confines of the Indie Megabooth… 58 featured games and 20 more as part of the Minibooth. Some of this year’s heavy hitters include a new game from Team Meat (A Voyeur For September), the next game from the Threes guys (Close Castles), the intriguing Oculus title Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, and N++ (a game which needs no introduction). Over in the Minibooth, you’ll three of our favorites from PAX East 2014: Max Gentlemen, Catlateral Damage, and Tetropolis.
You want more? You can find the complete lineup after the break and more details on every game at the Indie Megabooth’s official website. (more…)

The Last of Us returns to the top of the best-seller list in July 2014 NPD report

In previous years, the best-sellers chart for the month of July would normally be dominated by the latest entry in the NCAA Football series. But EA Sports canceled the series last Fall, so a new emperor is sitting upon the July Throne in 2014. Or rather, an emperor we’ve seen before in a spiffy new set of clothes.
This is a roundabout way of saying that the Remastered re-release of Sony’s The Last of Us (combined with more sales on the PS3) pushed the game to the top of the best-sellers chart. July was a pretty sparse month as far as new releases go, but 505’s Sniper Elite III also cracked the top ten. It was number eight… with a bullet.
You can check out July’s complete top ten list (which includes May releases Watch Dogs and Mario Kart 8 hanging tough in the top five) after the break. (more…)

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor will march into stores on November 13
Today, during a special Gamescom presentation, Blizzard announced that the fifth World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor, will be released on November 13.
Warlords of Draenor adds a world’s worth of exciting new content for World of Warcraft players to discover. As Azeroth’s displaced heroes venture across Draenor, they’ll build and manage a mighty Garrison, a customizable fortress that grows with them on their journey; delve into otherworldly draenei temples and clash in the heart of hostile orc clans’ territory; fight the opposing faction for control of Ashran, a huge and dynamic PvP zone featuring a variety of personal and cooperative objectives; and take on a wide array of Dungeons, Raids, Battlegrounds, Challenge Modes, and more. No matter what kind of content you enjoy, your legend is waiting to be forged on Draenor.
As part of their presentation, Blizzard unveiled Warlords of Draenor’s opening cinematic, which you can view above. They also debuted the first episode of Lords of War, an animated miniseries that will introduce players to some of the expansion’s major characters. The premiere episode is known as “Shattered Hand” and is available after the break. Additional episodes will be posted on WorldofWarcraft.com “in the weeks ahead.” (more…)
