Outgoing THQ President talks Insane, Saints Row 4, more
Danny Bilson, THQ’s (now former) Executive Vice President of Core Games, has always been a little too talkative with the media. He admits as much in a recent interview with Eurogamer, his final one as a representative of THQ. Bilson also talked extensively about the company’s plans for 2013 (and beyond) and what the future holds for games like Insane, Saints Row 4, Devil’s Third, their unnamed shooter from Turtle Rock, and more.

Square Enix’s E3 2012 lineup features Tomb Raider, Hitman, Sleeping Dogs, a lot more

Square Enix is using this year’s E3 Expo to show off all the shiny new toys it acquired from Eidos and Activision over the last few years.
Those toys include the rebooted Tomb Raider; Hitman: Absolution, Agent 47’s next mission; and Sleeping Dogs, the Activision open-world game that was previously known as True Crime: Hong Kong.
Also on hand will be a slew of handheld titles (correction… 3DS titles) including Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Heroes of Ruin, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. A new Final Fantasy game for iOS and Android, Final Fantasy Dimensions, will also make its debut at this year’s big show.
Finally, the publisher plans to showcase Quantum Conundrum, one of my favorite games from PAX East.

Doom 3: BFG Edition coming to PC, PS3, Xbox 360
While the development of Doom 4 continues to be ignored by Bethesda, the publisher has announced that id Software plans to go backward before they go forward with Doom 3: BFG Edition. The remastered game will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this Fall.
The BFG Edition brings together almost every piece of Doom content every released by id including Doom 3, the Resurrection of Evil expansion, and a new set of levels known as “The Lost Mission.” The collection also includes Doom and Doom II: Hell on Earth in their original hellish glory.
You could easily call the BFG Edition the ultimate edition of Doom 3 as it’ll also include “support for 3D TVs, 5.1 surround sound, improved rendering and lighting, Achievements, Trophies, and a new check point save system.” According to Bethesda, the controls have been fine-tuned to make Doom 3 a better experience on consoles. And for PC gamers, Carmack is promising that the DFG Edition will be compatible with “head-mounted displays.”
As part of that fine-tuning process, id is also adding an “armor-mounted flashlight” so players can wield a gun and shine a flashlight at the same time. It only took about a decade.
Snapshot puzzling its way onto PSN, Vita this Fall
Indie developer Retro Affect have announced that their debut game, Snapshot, a 2D platform-puzzler, will be heading to the PlayStation Network and PS Vita this Fall, and will handily feature cross-platform saves. Nominated for an IGF Award back in 2009, developers Kyle Pulver and David Carrigg have since been expanding and polishing the game for a console release.
In what sounds like a simple yet brilliant idea, the game features an amnesiac robot named Picon on an adventure to discover his origins. He has in his possession a powerful camera that can take photos of the surrounding landscape, and to paste that photo elsewhere. Players will then be able to manipulate the photographs in order to overcome obstacles or solve puzzles.
As Retro Affect told the PlayStation Blog, “Our goal is to make awesome games that resonate with the feel of classic gaming flavor, but with a splash of something fresh.” With the current Fall schedule oversaturated by sequels and first-person shooters, Snapshot could very well follow in the footsteps of Journey, offering something fun and unique.
Retro Affect have plans to push the game onto Windows PC, Mac OSX, and Linux after the release on Sony’s systems.
Max Payne 3 Review: Another One of These, and Make it Strong

So here I am, reviewing Max Payne 3, and I wonder: was it worth it? Was playing this game worth the frustration, crashes, audio bugs, and insane loading times just to get to the main screen so that I could go through more loading times to get into the game? As I sit here with my head in my hands between sentences, I wonder: How did I get here?
Wavy Lines… Wavy Lines… Wavy Lines… Wavy Lines… Wavy Lines…
(You know, those lines that tell you we’re going back in time, because I thought it would be a good idea to model my review on the opening scene of the game I’m reviewing.) (more…)
Square Enix won’t let Sleeping Dogs lie with this new trailer
Square Enix and United Front Games have released an extensive new trailer detailing the ins and outs of their Hong Kong-based sandbox thriller, Sleeping Dogs. While the game, formerly know as True Crime: Hong Kong, has undergone a name change due to being dropped by its initial publisher, Activision, it is in every way a spiritual successor to the True Crime franchise. The game promises a blend of open-world sandbox missions mixed with RPG elements, with a heavy focus on a deep, involving storyline and the emotional choices the main character must face.
“You get to play as undercover cop Wei Shen. His mission: infiltrate the Sun on Yee and bring them down. Wei’s loyalties will be tested to the limit, torn by the Triad’s code of honour and his duty to the badge. He is trapped in a spiral of deceit and paranoia.”
Featuring the most advanced combat system in an open-world game that may supersede Batman: Arkham Asylum, as well as a free running element akin to the Assassin’s Creed games, Sleeping Dogs is currently due for release in North America on August 14th, Australia on August 16th, and in Europe on August 17th.

Sega monkeying around in Ron Gilbert’s The Cave
Sega has announced they will be publishing Double Fine’s The Cave, an adventure game from the mind of Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert, for digital download on consoles and PC in early 2013.
With the usual brand of humour associated with Gilbert and Double Fine’s Tim Schafer, the game has been described as “an adventure game so odd and compelling that it can only be described as odd and compelling.”
“The concept of The Cave has been bouncing around in my head for many, many years, and then the little voices that tell me to do things said it was time to make the game,” explained Ron Gilbert. The game itself is said to utilise concepts from Gilbert’s own 1987 classic, Maniac Mansion, with the player able to select three of seven playable characters, including a knight, a monk, a pair of street urchins, a time traveller and a hillbilly, to enter the magical talking titular Cave. Each character will have their own personality and traits used to solve the puzzles found within.
A playable version of The Cave will more than likely make an appearance at next month’s E3 Expo.
Temporary Resident Evil 6 box art becomes official
When Capcom first announced Resident Evil 6, they also revealed some temporary box art featuring the game’s logo. On Friday, that temporary art (which you can see to your left) officially became the game’s official box art.
It’s a little plain, but umm, sure, why not? After all, anything is better than the absolutely terrible GameCube box art for Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil 6 will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 2 with a PC version to follow soon after.
