Dead Island Game of the Year Edition announced
Deep Silver’s Dead Island was one of 2011’s most talked-about games. Some loved it. Some hated it. And some just sat back and muttered, “another zombie game?”
This Summer we’ll get to do it all over again as the publisher has announced a June 26 release for the Dead Island Game of the Year Edition. European gamers will get it as well, but they’ll have to wait until July 6.
Like most GOTY Editions, the Dead Island Game of the Year Edition will include the original game and all of the previously released downloadable content at a budget price. In this case, that DLC includes the “Ryder White” expansion, the “Bloodbath Arena” high score mode, and a weapon blueprint for “The Ripper.”
And if you’d rather skip the game (again) and relive Dead Island’s awesome teaser trailer (again), check it out right here.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown invades stores on October 9

2K Games has announced that their alien invasion sim, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 9.
The modern “re-imagining” of X-COM: UFO Defense is in development at Firaxis Games and they plan to reward gamers who purchase Enemy Unknown early with the Elite Soldier Pack.
The Elite Soldier Pack will contain a variety of character customization tools including the Classic X-COM Soldier skin, Soldier Deco packs containing unique armor kits, and “Complete Color Customization” for all other armor kits.
If you plan to purchase Enemy Unknown for the PC, you’ll be pleased to know that 2K is putting together an exclusive Special Edition of the game that’s sure to impress anyone who bought a PC game during the 1990s. The Special Edition will include an art book; fold-out poster of the XCOM headquarters; XCOM insignia patch; and a collection of digital bonus assets such as desktop wallpaper, soundtrack, and more.
Not quite the bounty of booty that game publishers used to stuff in their PC boxes, but a pretty nice haul nonetheless.

DMC: Devil May Cry slashes its way into stores on January 15, 2013
Another one bites the 2012 dust. Capcom has announced that DMC: Devil May Cry, the long-awaited reboot of Dante’s early demon days, will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on January 15, 2013. A PC version was also announced, which will be released later in 2013.
In addition to announcing the release date, Capcom confirmed that DMC: Devil May Cry will make a big splash at this year’s E3 Expo. The publisher also revealed a new character, Kat:
Kat is a former runaway that joined The Order very early in her life. She is a medium and a gifted psychic who can see into Limbo, the demon realm, but not directly interact with it in the way that Dante does. She is the right hand girl to the Leader of The Order and devotes her life to him, often putting herself in grave danger to gather intelligence from Limbo.
There is a sweet innocence about Kat’s world view and logic, but when it comes to her specialist subject, the demon realm, she is an undoubted expert. Kat is The Order’s “eyes and ears” and is tasked with guiding Dante on his mission through Limbo.
See just how “sweet” and “innocent” Kat is after the break (I swear, someone needs to buy Capcom a dictionary). (more…)
Overkill working on Left 4 Dead/Payday crossover game

It’s not exactly Left 4 Dead 3, but Overkill Software (developers of Payday: The Heist) have announced that the universes of their team-based first-person shooter and Valve’s team-based first-person shooter will be crossing over in a future project.
Ulf Andersson, Game Director at Overkill, had this to say about the “infectious” news:
“We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between Overkill and Valve is currently in production.
We are working on a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done.”

Aliens: Colonial Marines mostly comes out in February 2013, mostly
Sega and developer Gear Box Software have delayed Aliens: Colonial Marines again! If I were the pessimistic sort, I’d be screaming game over, man! Game over! But I’m willing to give Gearbox the benefit of the doubt, especially after viewing the excellent new trailer above.
The game is now scheduled for a February 12, 2013 release on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The release date of the Wii U version will be announced “at a later time.”
Aliens: Colonial Marines just can’t seem to catch a break as this is the fourth or fifth release date delay (I’ve honestly lost count) since the game was announced in 2006. But Gearbox President Randy Pitchford wants to assure fans that it’s really coming this time:
“I am thrilled to announce the definitive launch date for Aliens: Colonial Marines. Aliens: Colonial Marines is the culmination of a life-time of inspiration from the films and relentless passion and drive from the exceptionally talented development team behind the scenes.”
No reason was given for the delay.
New Releases: Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Dragon’s Dogma, Sorcery, More

Can you manage to pull yourself away from Diablo III long enough to check out this week’s new releases? Who knows, you might even find something interesting.
For example, how about Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier? The latest game in the squad-based shooter franchise will finally be available this week on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Also available this week is Dragon’s Dogma, Capcom’s hybrid single-player/co-op dragon hunting game for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Other new releases this week include Sony’s Move-enable magician sim, Sorcery, and the “don’t call it a tie-in game” tie-in game, Men In Black: Alien Crisis (PS3, Wii, Xbox 360).
Finally, the 320 GB PlayStation 3 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 system bundle should make it’s way to store shelves by Friday, May 25.
A complete list of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)

Omerta: City of Gangsters makes the Xbox 360 an offer it can’t refuse

Kalypso Media has announced that the PC version of Omerta: City of Gangsters will be joined by an Xbox 360 version when it launches this Fall. The code of silence prevents me from saying too much about the game, but I can tell you this…
Omerta: City of Gangsters for both Xbox 360 and Windows PC will place players in 1920’s Atlantic City, where they’ll spend their time building a criminal empire in an attempt to dominate the city. Players will construct, buy or take over buildings to turn them into speakeasies, distilleries, illegal boxing rings and much more, as they work to generate income. With dirty money come dirty jobs – and the game switches to a turn-based tactical RPG during blazing gunfights and elaborately planned and executed heists. Unique playable and non-playable characters will perform jobs for you, including spying on, fighting with and even fire-bombing the buildings of enemy gangs.
Tactical gunfights in 1920s Atlantic City? I think Kalypso just made me an offer I can’t refuse.

The Elder Scrolls Online will include solo story mode
Game Informer‘s extensive coverage of The Elder Scolls Online continues with an in-depth interview with Game Director Matt Firor. During the chat, Firor drops a huge bombshell… even though The Elder Scolls Online is an MMO, it will include a “solo mode.” So to everyone that declared The Elder Scrolls Online “the end of the series as we know it,” you can relax.
Here’s what Firor had to say about solo mode:
“In the Elder Scrolls games you’re always the hero, whether you want to be or not. You go out there and you kill the dragons. You kill Mehrunes Dagon in Oblivion. In Morrowind, you’re up there fighting the Tribunal – those are huge, global, epic things that you don’t want to stand in line to do in an MMO. The last thing you want to do is have the final confrontation with Mehrunes Dagon as he’s stomping across the Imperial City, and you see like 15 guys behind you waiting to kill him because they’re on the same quest.
We have a whole part of the game that is 100% solo, which is the main story, where the world focuses on you. You are the hero, everything you do is solo and the world reacts to you that way.”
This news certainly makes you wonder if Bethesda plans to sell a version of The Elder Scrolls Online without the “online” part.
