What To Expect From E3 2011

E3 is just three weeks away E3 begins tomorrow! As we gear up for the biggest event on the gaming calendar, it’s easy to forget what exactly it is we’re gearing up to see. So that’s where Warp Zoned’s handy guide of “What To Expect From E3 2011” comes into play. We’ve gathered together a list of every game that’s been confirmed for E3 2011 as well as every game that’s expected to be at E3 2011 along with a few rumored titles that just might make an appearance at the big show.
We’ll update this article regularly as the opening of the E3 Expo grows nearer. Be sure to check back often! (more…)
Darkspore PS3, 360 versions hinted at by resume
Mike Perry, executive producer at Maxis, recently told GameRant that Darkspore could be coming to consoles if the demand was high enough. Apparently, it’s been in the cards for a while, as a developer resume spills the beans on a PS3 and Xbox 360 port.
Jordan Patz’ resume (now changed), claimed he “worked with Maxis to modify Darkspore for release on Xbox/PS3.” EA has given its predictable “no comment,” but expect more information to surface soon.
I gotta say, it’s become pretty commonplace now for unannounced titles to blow their cover from developer resumes. Don’t the publishers put something in these peoples’ contracts about this stuff?
Warner Bros. announces Gotham City Impostors as a first-person shooter
Last month, WB went on a domain-registering warpath, nailing down websites for batman titles such as Hush, Knight Fell, and Red Hood. We had a hunch at least some of them would be games, and now that’s been confirmed with Gotham City Impostors.
The game will actually be a first-person shooter, where players can create their own customizable Bats (vigilantes) and Jokerz (villains) along with homebrew gadgets in order to go head to head with each other online.
“Gotham City Impostors blows apart expectations for superhero games with an exaggerated take on first person shooters, set in a part of the DC Universe players have never seen before,” said WB Senior VP of Production and Development, Samantha Ryan.
So, do you think those other Batman domains will actually pop us as games? Will Impostors even be good? We’ll find out when it hits PC, Xbox Live Arcade, and the PlayStation Network at a later date. You can visit the official website of the game here.

Atari preparing five-game lineup for E3
All your favorite publishers and developers will have their chance to let the world know about their upcoming projects at next month’s E3, and Atari has narrowed down the selection it will be bringing. Their presence will consist of five games, two yet to be announced, and three of which we already know about: TERA, Warlords, and Centipede: Infestation.
TERA (PC) looks to shake up the MMO scene a little bit, bringing in a sense of urgent action combat to what is traditionally a point-and-click endeavor. The game will be powered by Unreal Engine 3.
Warlords (PSN, XBLA) will bring the arcade classic into the modern day, with both co-op and competitive modes for both local and online multiplayer.
Finally, Centipede: Infestation (3DS, Wii) will be another iteration of one of the most beloved arcade games of all time, featuring 40 levels, 20 power-ups, five boss battles, and a slew of monsters. A co-op feature will be included in this 3DS reimagining, as well as Street Pass features.
We’ll have more informtion on what the other two games are come E3.
CoD Modern Warfare 3: More evidence for November 8th date
An anonymous retail source has delivered a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 promotional poster to IGN Australia that lends more credence to the game’s rumored release date.
The poster features the now confirmed Modern Warfare 3 cover image along with the date “08.11.11”. Before you get all excited about a surprise August 11th launch, bear in mind that the poster uses the Australian date format of Day-Month-Year, so it actually reads November 8, 11.
Which is the exact same date that Kotaku learned from its sources. So I’d say this rumor is as good as confirmed.

New Releases: L.A. Noire, The Witcher 2, Fable III PC, More

Put on your detective hat as we go searching for clues to this this week’s new releases.
The biggest new game of the week is Rockstar Games’ L.A. Noire. An ambitious story of murder and traffic violations in 1940s Los Angeles, L.A. Noire has been a long time in the making and has the makings of changing the way we look at games with its facial cues game mechanic.
To counteract the juggernaut that is L.A. Noire, two major PC games are also being released this week: CD Projekt’s RPG The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and the PC version of Peter Molyneux’s Fable III.
Check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)

Modern Warfare 3 teaser continues the war in Am3rica
Looks like Infinity Ward isn’t trying to hide it anymore. In addition to the tons of juicy details we got earlier today on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s singleplayer and multiplayer modes, the teaser trailer above has been released for the game. It shows a large digital layout of New York city in the vintage Modern Warfare green while Stalker 1-0 and Stalker 1-1 relay communications about the Brooklyn Bridge. At the end, you can hear Vladimir Makarov say something which I seriously hope gets translated soon.
The Call of Duty YouTube channel has been remade with Modern Warfare 3 logos and a whole series of teasers is now available for your viewing pleasure.
It’s pretty ironic that another big game this year made a huge deal about taking the fight to New York (Crysis 2, anyone?). It’ll be interesting to see who pulled off the better rendition or just the better game, but I think the whole “the war comes home” theme FPS games have been taking ever since Turning Point: Fall of Liberty needs to be laid to rest. At least most devs moved away from the whole apocalyptic thing (Rage notwithstanding).

A Game of Thrones: Genesis official site launches
Fans of the fantasy soap opera happening in Westeros, rejoice! The official site for A Game of Thrones: Genesis has opened its doors. There’s a plethora of terrific stuff on this site, my favorite being the “Houses” section that details where each house is from, gives a description of their background, and gives details on both their “special units” and “house bonuses.” Wow. There’s also news, tons of media, a forum, a community section (which takes you into the world of the fans of the entire series and not just the game), and a shop, which just takes you to a page that says “work in progress.”
Watching the HBO miniseries but haven’t read the books yet? Fear not, hipsters – we’ve got you covered. Buy this super cheap and mega awesome miniseries tie-in cover box set for $19.78. No, seriously. Do it. Read more books, people. Or at least give the authors some money. (You should also buy this Walking Dead Compendium – you’re the same people who haven’t read the comics yet but love the show. Tsk, tsk!)
