Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will launch (to the moon) on October 14
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel now has a release date: October 14! This is ridiculously exciting news. The game, which is set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, will document the rise to power of Handsome Jack. Check out the trailer above to see him recite his version of the poem “Ozymandias.”
They haven’t listed the participating retailers yet, but some pre-orders will include the “Shock Drop Slaughter Pit” bonus content, which will include unique in-game loot.
President of 2K Christoph Hartmann said, “The teams at Gearbox and 2K Australia have combined the best talent from both studios to create a Borderlands experience that we know fans are going to love… For those that haven’t played the critically acclaimed franchise, there’s never been a better time to jump in than with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.”
And everyone’s favorite dude, Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox, had this to say: “It’s incredibly exciting that an all-new Borderlands experience is as close as this October… If you’ve played any of the Borderlands games or if you have a friend who hasn’t yet, the opportunity to blast off as a new set of playable characters in a whole new campaign experience, including shooting and looting on the moon, is just around the corner.”
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available on October 14 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Hit the jump for the full press release. (more…)

Achtung Baby! EA’s 2014 World Cup simulation says Germany will win it all
Yesterday, EA declared that the 2014 World Cup would be won by Germany. EA simulated the Cup, testing all 32 teams using the conditions for the upcoming weeks, using the football/soccer engine from their 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil game. The final outcome was that Germany would win over Brazil with a score of 2-1. This would mean that Germany would be the first nation from Europe to win the Cup in South America.
The sports simulation giant predicted correctly that Spain would win four years ago, but if that doesn’t give you enough faith in them, you can make your own predictions at EA’s interactive bracket.
2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is available now on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Check out the full press release (which includes predictions for every match after the Group stage) for the simulation after the jump. (more…)

Watch Dogs sets new record for launch sales of an original property
Watch Dogs has been flying off the shelves since it was released on May 27, selling more than four million copies in just one week. This marks it as the fastest-selling brand-new intellectual property at launch, and the best-selling first week game for Ubisoft. The record sales are (presumably) ongoing.
Ubisoft’s senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key was very pleased, saying “With such strong sales momentum and positive feedback from gamers, Watch Dogs has positioned itself as the must-have game of the moment… We’re really proud of this achievement, and are confident that the Watch Dogs brand has a promising future.”
Over one million of those who purchased the game also got ctOS Mobile, the free companion app, which allowed them to check Aiden Pearce’s Chicago at anytime right from their mobile devices. This app also allows for dual-screen gameplay.
Watch Dogs launched last week for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. It will be released on the Wii U system this coming Fall.

Little Orbit adapting Falling Skies into a strategy RPG
Fans of the TNT science fiction show Falling Skies will be happy to know that Little Orbit will soon be turning the show into a video game. The show will be made into a tactical strategy RPG, and will be released on the PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 as a digital download.
President of Little Orbit, Matt Scott, said “Our goal for Falling Skies is to recreate the humanistic elements from the television series so that players can grow with the characters as they play through intuitively designed strategies… We want to bring that same character driven storyline derived from the series to the game all while making it easy to navigate for every player.”
The game will allow players to see all of their favorite characters from the show, and will allow them to play in “a never-ending list of missions” in their fight against the aliens. There will be hundreds of unlockable skills and character upgrades, as well as dynamic enemy AI and map randomization.
The Falling Skies video game is scheduled to be out this Fall. Hit the jump to view the full press release. (more…)
Murdered: Soul Suspect, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, 1001 Spikes, more added to PS Store

The release calendar for June is a bit bare, but thankfully, Sony came through with a batch of quirky new downloads in the first PlayStation Store update of the month.
The supernatural detective story Murdered: Soul Suspect is this week’s biggest new release. Available for both the PS3 and PS4, the game follows the recently departed Ronan O’Connor as he attempts to track down his murderer, a serial killer known as The Bell Killer. It’s joined by four other PS4 releases including the free-to-play World War II sim, War Thunder; the latest game in the Worms franchise, Worms Battlegrounds; an enhanced version of the fourth PixelJunk game, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate; and the latest brutal platformer, 1001 Spikes. Those last two are also available as PS4/Vita Cross-Buy games, so you can also take them on the go.
One other PS3 game was added to the PS Store this week and it’s Don Bradman Cricket 14. I’m not entirely sure, but it might be the first cricket game ever released in North America. If I cared in the slightest about cricket, I’d do some research and find out for sure.
Finally, the Vita is now home to a Sony-produced pet simulator, PlayStation Vita Pets, and a diva simulator known as Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection. Don’t let your real dog and American Idol know you’ve been cheating on them.
More information about all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

Ultra Street Fighter IV upgrade now available to download on PS3, Xbox 360
If you own Super Street Fighter IV or Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Capcom wants to let you know (via the embedded launch trailer above) that you can now download the Ultra Street Fighter IV digital upgrade for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The upgrade is priced at $14.99 and includes five new characters (Rolento, Elena, Hug, Poison, and Decapre), six new stages, and a bunch of balance tweaks.
The game also has the word “Ultra” in the title now and “Ultra” is clearly superior to “Super.”
The retail version of Ultra Street Fighter IV will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 5. The PC edition (both the digital upgrade and a full game download) is set for release a few days after.

New Mortal Kombat X details: Persistent online battle, “multiple character variations,” more
Now that we’ve all had a chance to digest the debut trailer for Mortal Kombat X, WB Games has revealed a few more details about the game in their official announcement. For starters, they’ve confirmed the game will be released in 2015 for the new-generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) as well as the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
But the big news is that this addition to the Mortal Kombat franchise will make the battle for Earthrealm truly global for the first time. According to the announcement, Mortal Kombat X will “[launch] players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy.” Mortal Kombat X will also give players the option to select from multiple variations of each character in this battle. Each character variation will practice a different fighting style, requiring unique strategies from the player. Presumably, the variations will also be clad in different costumes as well.
Finally, the developers at NetherRealm Studios have promised that Mortal Kombat X will include many fan-favorite characters (such as Scorpion and Sub-Zero) as well as new fighters that “tie the tale together.”
“Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilise the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet,” said Ed Boon, the Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios. “The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine.”
Mortal Kombat X will make its first public appearance at next week’s E3 Expo.
