Daily Scoop: October 17, 2011 – New York Comic Coma
Whew.
New York Comic-Con came and went in a flurry of excitement! And this amazing and beautiful weekend ended on a delightfully creepy note with the season 2 premiere of “Walking Dead” last night. Add to that the fact that I finished catching up on episodes of “Breaking Bad,” and I’d say I had a pretty darn productive weekend!
Aaaand now for some deals!
Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Activision’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for $14.99 on the Xbox 360. Amazon really is gearing up for Modern Warfare 3! The new weekly deals are up as well:

New Releases: Batman Arkham City, Ratchet & Clank All 4 One, Layton and Last Specter, More

If you’re a gamer and you have a pulse, this week is a very important week for new game releases. And that’s all because Batman: Arkham City (PS3, Xbox 360) will be available in stores this Tuesday. I’d just call in sick to work now to be on the safe side.
Also available this week is Insomniac’s next Ratchet and Clank adventure, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (PS3), as well Level-5’s next Professor Laytone puzzler, Professor Layton and the Last Specter (DS).
More releases include EA’s plan to expand The Sims 3 with the The Sims 3: Pets on the 3DS, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 while Ubisoft’s Rocksmith, a “real guitar” game, will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)

Grimlock rampages through Transformers: Fall of Cybertron teaser
Like most six year olds, Optimus Prime was my favorite Transformer. But Grimlock was my favorite toy. The Dinobot leader was at the center of so many of my kitchen table battles that he actually shattered after one nasty fight versus Abominus.
So seeing the first Transformers: Fall of Cybertron teaser, which stars a monstrous-looking Grimlock, is a particularly effective piece of marketing.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is in development at High Moon Studios and is currently on track for a 2012 release.

Madden NFL 12 blitzes the September NPD list
Boom! After taking the month of August off thanks to the NFL lockout, the debut of Madden NFL 12 has reclaimed its rightful spot at the top of The NPD Groups’s monthly rankings.
The football sim was joined at the top of the charts by other big new releases: Gears of War 3 chainsawed the second spot and Deep Silver’s Dead Island landed at #3 (behold the power of hype, folks). EA Sports claimed the rest of the top five with FIFA Soccer 12 at #4 and NHL 12 a spot below. Resistance 3 at #7 and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine at #10 round out the bevy of new releases on this NPD list.
Holdovers from previous months include Deus Ex: Human Revolution (#6), Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (#8) and Call of Duty: Black Ops (#9).
The complete top ten can be found after the break. (more…)

Daily Scoop: October 13, 2011 – Dysentery is no longer a concern
Thursday’s here, and it’s brought with it a ton more rain. Like Philadelphia needed more rain! Ha. It’s also brought some joy, though – I finally caught up to where my boyfriend is in “Breaking Bad,” meaning we can watch more of season 4 together tonight. I’ve been thinking, too – wouldn’t it make an amazing video game? I can see it already: meth lab Quick Time Events. Brilliant!
Moving on to today’s deals! Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War for $15.99 on the PlayStation 3. If you don’t already have this amazing Treyarch game, you might want to pick it up. Come to think of it, I don’t have this game! I may want to scoop it myself…
Today’s Ript is entitled “Trail Invaders,” and marries Oregon Trail to Space Invaders, just as you suspected when you read the name: (more…)

Multiply your nostalgia with this GoldenEye 007: Reloaded multiplayer trailer
If you spent your high school and/or college days crowded around multi-day multiplayer sessions of GoldenEye 007, this new trailer for GoldenEye 007: Reloaded will be of great interest to you.
For the kids? No, for me (and everyone like me that grew up on the original GoldenEye).
GoldenEye 007: Reloaded will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 1.

Here come the Men in Black (in a new game)

Here come the Men In Black // Galaxy defenders // Here come the Men In Black // They won’t let you remember.
After lodging that little ditty in your ear for the rest of the day, I can now use the rest of this post to talk about the new Men In Black game just announced by Activision.
Launching for “consoles and handhelds” alongside Men In Black III‘s Spring 2012 theatrical opening, the Men In Black game will be a standalone story that builds on the universe established in the movies to “bring back familiar faces, while also introducing new foes.” We have also been promised “action-packed, yet light-hearted gameplay mixed with edge-of-your-seat shooting excitement from the universe’s most elite peacekeeping force.”
“The Men In Black franchise is an unbeatable starting point to deliver a genre-bending gaming experience with a level of production value on par with Hollywood,” said David Oxford, Executive Vice President of Activision Publishing.
Activision has promised to reveal more gameplay details and characters (hopefully that means Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith) in the future, so don’t forget about the Men In Black!
Daytona USA drives onto PSN, XBLA this month
I can’t even begin to calculate how many quarters I pumped into the Daytona USA machine at my local mall back in 1993. And the mall in the next town over. And at the mini-golf course. And at rest stops during family vacations. Yeah, I played a lot of Daytona USA.
But it’ll only take 40 quarters (AKA $10 AKA 800 Microsoft Points) to relive those memories in my living room on October 25 when Sega adds Daytona USA to the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Arcade. The downloadable port will feature enhanced graphics (but really, how can you enhance those polygons?), steering wheel support and online play. Up to eight players will be able to race around the game’s three tracks, simulating the system link feature Daytona USA was known for.
The PSN/XBLA version will also retain the game’s iconic soundtrack, but now there’s a Karaoke Mode because, according to Sega, “you know you have been singing along anyway.”
