Clever girl… Jurassic Park sneaks into stores on November 15

Did that headline conjur images of a pack of Raptors silently circling Muldoon in the aisles of your local game store? I hope it did.

Anyway, Telltale Games has told the tale of Jurassic Park‘s release date to IGN. The game will be released on November 15 as a retail game disc for the Xbox 360 and as downloadable episodes on the PC and PS3. The entire game will be on the Xbox 360 disc and all episodes will be able to be downloaded at once on the PC and PS3. That means it’s not really an “episodic” game, but whatever.

An iPad version is also in the works, but Telltale was not ready to discuss a release date for it just yet.

Daily Scoop: August 22, 2011 – Fun hangover!

I had way more fun this weekend than I thought humanly possible! The Philadelphia Geek Awards were amazing (check out what you missed!), I played loads of Dungeons & Dragons, and I got to spend yesterday with my family. It was low on video games, but with PAX Prime coming up in just a few days (eeeee!), I’ll be making up for that soon enough.

Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games today is EA Sports MMA for $9.99 on the PlayStation 3. Also, the PC MMO Hello Kitty Online Premier Edition is just $5.56! The two new weekly deals are a discount on Kinect game Brunswick Pro Bowling, which is $27.08, and the other is buy Disney Epic Mickey, get another Disney game from that list free. That means you could get Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Sing It: Party Hits for $29.99. ZOMG.

Nothing in the t-shirt world today, unless you aim to misbehave: (more…)

Duke Nukem Begins, Fable IV rumored, even though both have already been announced

Who wants some?

The October 2011 issue of Official Xbox Magazine (via CVG) is spreading the rumor that Fable IV and Duke Nukem Begins are in the works at, respectively, Lionhead and Gearbox. Awesome news for fans of those franchises, but neither game is actually rumored to be in development, they’ve already been confirmed by the creators themselves.

According to OXM, Fable IV will appear in 2013 with a “proper, controller-based” game. But series creator Peter Molyneux already confirmed a “proper” Fable sequel back in March. Another Fable title, the Kinect-powered Fable: The Journey was announced at E3 and will be released in 2012.

Duke Nukem Begins has an even stranger saga. OXM relays the rumor that Gearbox will reboot the Duke Nukem franchise after they complete Aliens: Colonial Marines. But the game, then known as Duke Begins, was first revealed in a court filing when Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms sued Take-Two. According to the court filing, the game was canceled, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick and Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford have both confirmed more Duke Nukem games are on the way. So why not start with the already begun Duke Nukem Begins?

Dragon Age III will be “the best from Dragon Age and Dragon Age II”

Speaking to PC Gamer, BioWare CEO Dr. Ray Muzyka has revealed the first bit of news about Dragon Age III. Quizzing the developer about the franchise’s split fandom after Dragon Age II (our own Adam Woolcott awarded it a four out of five), the magazine asked Muzyka what direction the threequel would take.

He could have spouted the obvious “we’re going back to the basics” line that you would expect, but instead, Muzyka confirmed that Dragon Age III will combine “the best from both games, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II.”

“What we need to do as developers is take that feedback from both sets of fans to heart and see about marrying that in future games in the Dragon Age franchise. I think that the team has actually got a great plan. I think the team is going to have some things that are going to surprise both sets of fans, both core fans and new fans with a marriage of these… the best from both games, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. And we look forward more to talking about that in the future.”

Dragon Age III has yet to be officially announced, but it will likely be released sometime in 2012.

New Releases: Deus Ex Human Revolution, Tropico 4, Devil Survivor 3DS, More

The driest August ever (both weatherwise and gamewise) continues this week as just a handful of new releases will make their way onto store shelves.

The biggest release is the long-awaited Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which will be available on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Eidos Montreal has been hard at work on the third Deus Ex game since before the company was purchased by Square Enix. The only other completely new game available this week is Tropico 4. El Presidente’s latest conquest is coming to the PC now and to the Xbox 360 sometime in the future.

The rest of this week’s new releases are all re-releases in some way. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked is a 3DS remake of the DS game of the same name while Nintendo has the second wave of their Nintendo Selects budget line (Mario Strikers Charged, Punch-Out!!, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario) set for release this week.

Slim pickings to be sure (though Punch-Out!! is a complete steal at $19.99), but the big autumn game avalanche is coming soon. So be patient.

Warp Zoned Wish List: What We Want From Borderlands 2

When Borderlands first came out back in October of 2009, I was smitten. I got it, played every single mission alone, and basically just devoured the game. Playing it on the PS3 was what some saw as my major handicap; most of my friends had it for the Xbox 360. However, I had a fantastic time playing the game alone. I played as Lilith the Siren, friendless and badass; I made that game my bitch, and then set it aside to move onto the next one. By the time the DLC came out, I was involved in other games.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, when Borderlands was on sale for $14.99 – with all of the DLC – for PlayStation Plus subscribers. I gobbled it up, lent my hard copy to a friend, and dove right back in again. Podcast Producer Ryan Littlefield and I beat the game in just two short weeks, and as we approached the vault, he told me he’d found a copy of the GOTY edition at Target for $8 in the clearance section. “Of course you did,” I laughed, “they’re probably doing all this to gear up for the announcement of Borderlands 2.” That night, the rumor broke on Eurogamer; the next morning, Borderlands 2 was officially announced by 2K Games.

What this means is that there is massive potential here for a sequel that goes off the charts. There’s so much awesome in the first game, but there’s so much that could be adjusted to make the sequel even better. If they find the right balance, Borderlands fans will have much to rejoice about – and many more players to rejoice with. What follows is a detailed list of what I think should be included, discluded, and just plain married to Borderlands 2. (more…)
