New Rage trailer, “Uprising,” gives up some of the story
The new trailer for Id’s Rage is pretty amazing. To answer your first question – yes, that is John Goodman. Once you get past that amazing realization, the rest of the awesomeness just kind of washes over you – especially the shotgun blasts and the decapitating boomerangs. I’m a little concerned about the whole “Ark survivor to heroic freedom fighter in the Wasteland’s fight against the oppressive Authority” – it reminds me a lot of Brink when they put it that way.
At least the plot seems a little more interesting, though: “Set in the not-too-distant future after an asteroid impacts Earth, you emerge into a vast wasteland to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against such forces as bandit gangs, mutants, and more.”
Rage will be out on October 4 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Battlefield 3 Limited Edition, pre-order bonuses revealed
EA unveiled that there will be two editions of Battlefield 3 – Standard and Limited – as well as the pre-order bonuses unique to participating retailers. The Limited Edition will include the Back to Karkand DLC, which has four maps from Battlefield 2, including Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, and the Sharqi Peninsula, all of which have been redone in the Frostbite 2 engine. The DLC can also be purchased separately for $14.99.
The pre-order promotions are:
- Physical Warfare Pack – Storm the battlefield armed with a set of three exclusive weapons in the Physical Warfare Pack including: 1) the Type 88 light machine gun with bipod for deadly firepower and total zone control; 2) the SKS sniper rifle flash suppressor that provides increased stealth abilities for Recon soldiers; and 3) the lethal armor-piercing flechette ammo for the DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun that will tear through anything in its path. Each weapon will be available for a limited time in-game, and will later become available to all players. Also unlocked is instant access to the highly versatile DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun.
- SPECACT Kit – Players can expand their customizable options in Battlefield 3 with a set of eight unique multiplayer skins, one for each class in Battlefield 3.
- Dog Tag Pack – In Battlefield 3, dog tags serve as the player’s in-game signature, allowing gamers to customize their soldiers. Dog tags are displayed on screen every time a player takes down an enemy or claims an opponent’s dog tags. This pre-order exclusive item comes with five new, unique dog tags.
No word on which retailer will be matched with which bonus yet. Battlefield 3 will be out October 25 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Bungie’s “O Brave New World” documentary reveals New Universe is codenamed Tiger
Bungie has been celebrating their 20th anniversary in style for a few weeks now. From the excellent Bungie Day festivities on July 7 to the “official Halo handover,” the company has signaled over and over again that a new era is about to begin. To cap this celebration, the lads at Bungie have put together “O Brave New World,” a nearly 60-minute documentary detailing the beginnings of Bungie all the way through to their future. Their brave new world, if you will. Featuring interviews from the team, key industry veterans and various video game luminaries, it’s worth a watch even if you hate Halo.
Why would you do that you ask? Well, the doc includes a few hints about Bungie’s next project, which we now know is codenamed Tiger.
Catherine sells 200K copies in first week, sets Atlus record
Steamy video game Catherine sold a staggering 200,000 copies in its first week of release, setting an Atlus record. How did Atlus celebrate? With a cake, of course.
Atlus’ VP of Sales and Marketing, Tim Pivnicny, told IGN: “Catherine has exceeded our highest expectations. It released last week to tremendous critical acclaim and fan response, bolstered by the release of a demo a couple weeks prior, and continues to generate discussion among fans for its mature themes, engrossing subject matter, and frantic, challenging gameplay. It is fitting, then, that Catherine can boast the largest launch in the 20-year history of Atlus, and continues to see strong sales at retail.”
We thought Catherine was pretty good. In fact, I am wearing Vincent’s boxers as I type this.
Nothing is over! Rambo game in development
UK publisher Reef Entertainment has shared with MCV that they’ve acquired the rights to create a game based on the Rambo movies. Rambo is currently in development for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
No other details were revealed, but Reef executives believe a Rambo game will catapult them to worldwide promience.
“I am a big fan of Sylvester Stallone movies, and when we had the opportunity to secure the video game rights from StudioCanal for the Rambo franchise, we had to grab it with both hands,” said Reef Entertainment CEO Peter Rezon.
Reef’s Commercial Director, Craig Lewis, added: “Rambo will be a triple-A title on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and will capture the gritty atmosphere and full-on action which made the Rambo movies so successful.”
Daily Scoop: August 4, 2011 – Thursday’s here, woo!
It’s Thursday! And Ryan Littlefield and I have off tomorrow! Which means we are going to be playing a crapload of Borderlands. Want to join us? Leave a comment and tell us your PSN name and we’ll add you to the mix! We’re level 27, and we’re running around Earl’s Scrapyard, I think. Come on and take a riiiiiiiiiiiiiide!
Anyway, Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games today is none other than Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles II for the PSP. It’s 50% off at $19.99 today, and that really is a great deal. This strategy RPG is not just a pretty face – it’s also got a great and complex battle system and a fantastic story. Add in there that you can play with a friend and the potential is almost limitless!

F.E.A.R. 3 Review: Being Scared Was Never This Fun

F.E.A.R. 3 is the latest installment in the F.E.A.R. series, which stands for First Encounter Assault Recon – although it doesn’t really seem like anyone cares what it stands for anymore, seeing as that hasn’t really been relevant since the first game. While not helmed by the original developers – Day 1 Studios has taken over for Monolith Productions – the latest in the popular horror franchise still has the same spirit as the two original games.
The most interesting addition to the family gameplay is co-op – players can either play the campaign alone as Point Man and unlock his brother, Paxton Fettel, as they go through each chapter, or they can play the game cooperatively with a friend either online or from their couch. Couch co-op has never been so fun – or so terrifying. The main fear I had was that Day 1 Studios wouldn’t be able to deliver, but I’m happy to announce that they’ve given birth to something… well, something more beautiful than what’s about to come out of Alma Wade, for certain. Attend Call of Duty XP, get CoD Modern Warfare 3 for free

If you balked at the $150 price tag Activision put on a ticket to the Call of Duty XP expo, perhaps this will change your mind. In addition to admittance to the show, your ticket can be used to obtain a free copy of the Hardened Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 when it’s released on November 8. Between a free copy of MW3 and donating every cent of the Call of Duty XP ticket price to charity, Activision has officially moved their corporate karma one tick closer to the “Not Evil” side.
According to Joystiq, there will be plenty of other perks for Call of Duty XP attendees as well. Those that buy a ticket to the September 2-3 show will receive a sneak peek at a Call of Duty comedy series created by Jason Bateman and Will Arnett’s production company Dumbdumb. This series is being produced as a bonus for Call of Duty Elite members in addition to a “Modern Warfare-inspired live-action short” by We Can Pretend, the production company behind the awesome “Find Makarov” film.
Yup, definitely not evil.
