New Releases: Dark Souls II PC, Lego The Hobbit Wii U, Trials Fusion PC, More

It’s delayed gratification day in this week’s new release roundup as most of the titles listed below were already previously released on other platforms.
For example, Dark Souls II is now available for the PC, Lego The Hobbit journeys onto the Wii U, and Trials Fusion flips onto the PC. Finally, Putty Squad makes the jump from the PS4 to the Vita.
If you’re looking for something absolutely brand new this week, there’s NIS America’s latest dungeon-crawling RPG Demon Gaze. It’s available for the Vita and it features some prettu stunning artwork.
Nintendo Download: Super Mario Bros. 3, Lego The Hobbit, Golden Sun, more

Retro gaming fans will find a lot to like in this week’s Nintendo Download. Two more Game Boy Advance titles (the RPG Golden Sun and the futuristic racer F-Zero: Maximum Velocity) have made their way onto the Wii U eShop. They’re joined by one of the greatest games of all time, Super Mario Bros. 3. Mario’s third adventure will be available as separate downloads through both the Wii U eShop and the 3DS eShop.
Also available this week is the Wii U edition of Lego The Hobbit. The tie-in game will be available for Nintendo’s home console on Tuesday, April 22, just a few weeks after the Blu-ray/DVD release of the second movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Finally this week, a quartet of additional titles were added to Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS eShops. You can find more information on all of this week’s new game downloads after the break. Also, FYI, one of the Wii U’s best launch titles, ZombiU, has received a permanent price cut this week. The game, which was previously priced at $59.99, can now be had for $29.99. (more…)

The PAXpocalypse List: The Best of PAX East 2014

PAX East 2014 was a different type of show than in years past. Some big publishers, such as Nintendo, skipped the show completely, while others, like Microsoft, only brought a handful of unreleased games. This shift in the show floor allowed the indies to take center stage, and the majority of our PAX East 2014 PAXpocalypse List reflects this year’s status quo. But that’s not to say the big publishers skipped PAX East 2014 altogether. Towering displays from 2K, Bethesda, and Ubisoft dominated the exhibition hall map, and we definitely had some fun with a few games that will demand your time during this Summer and Fall.
So if we were cut off from the outside and trapped within the walls of PAX East 2014, which games would we return to over and over again? Well… (more…)

Hyper Light Drifter Hands-On Preview: Like Playing a Dream

Hyper Light Drifter exploded on the Kickstarter scene back in September of last year, eventually destroying its goal of $27,000. By the time the campaign ended on October 12, it had amassed an impressive $645,158 from backers. The game looked incredible, and I kicked it the moment I saw it. I was wary, as I have been about games on Kickstarter for some time – it’s more common to be excited about a game and have it arrive, months (sometimes over a year) later, and be a disappointing mess. But after playing Hyper Light Drifter at PAX East, I can say with confidence that this is one game that’s going to live up to how amazing it looks. (more…)

New Releases: Trials Fusion, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, Conception II

Three new retail releases will compete for your gaming dollar this week…
RedLynx’s platform-racing series makes the jump to next-generation consoles with the release of Trials Fusion. The game will be available in a “Deluxe Edition” that includes a Season Pass so players can gain access to future downloadable content for both the PS4 and Xbox One.
Also available next week is 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The actual World Cup is still a few months away, so you’ll have plenty of time to prepare yourself with EA’s quadrennial tie-in game.
Finally this week, Atlus will release Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars for the 3DS and Vita. If the title didn’t tip you off, Conception II features an absolutely insane storyline that includes evil gods, a group of god-fighting cultists, and a whole lot of baby-making.
Yup, definitely a Japanese RPG.

Nintendo Download: Lego The Hobbit, WarioWare, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

Nintendo is continuing their monthlong Game Boy Advance blowout by adding two more games to the Wii U eShop: WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. WarioWare Inc. is the first game in the popular (and insane) series of microgame compilations, while Kirby & The Amazing Mirror is an action-adventure that stars four color-coded Kirbys in a game that’s very similar to Zelda: Four Swords.
Over on the 3DS, Lego The Hobbit is now available to download this week. It’s joined by several puzzle games, a futuristic racing game, a poker game, and Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars, a wild new JRPG from Atlus (it’ll be available on Tuesday, April 15).
More information on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

Citizens of Earth is a turn-based RPG starring the Veep
Sadly, Joe Biden doesn’t star in Citizens of Earth. Instead, Eden Industries has created their own slick politician to lead a political party of 40 concerned citizens in their upcoming turn-based RPG. Taking nostalgic cues from Earthbound, and other 16-bit classics, Citizens of Earth asks the Veep to investigate some strange goings-on in his hometown:
The retro-inspired Citizens of Earth pits players as the second-highest-paid bureaucrat in the land. The game begins just after winning a long, drawn-out candidacy, and the VP returns to his hometown for some taxpayer-funded rest and relaxation. But after just one night passes, the VP awakens to find the world gone berserk! As elected official he has two responsibilities: investigate what’s caused people to go crazy… and delegate as much of the dirty work as possible. Citizens of Earth has 40 wacky citizens to recruit and send into battle.
The “way-too-jittery Barista, the ever-optimistic Weatherlady, the notoriously skeezy Car Salesman, and the ridiculously shy (and totally real) Sasquatch” are just some of the citizens of Citizens of Earth that the Vice President will be able to command. Eden Industries has promised the game will not include random encounters, but that it will have “hours of bonus content and optional side-quests to explore.”
Citizens of Earth will be published by Atlus and will be released as a downloadable title this September for the PC (through Steam), Wii U, 3DS, PS3, PS4, and Vita.
