Precursor relaunches Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter campaign with no episodic content
The first time Precursor Games tried to obtain funding for Shadow of the Eternals, their spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness, they had a tough time. When the campaign was suspended last month, backers had pledged only 10% of the requested $1.35 million total.
Today, the developers are back with a second shot at Kickstarter glory, but with some major changes to their pitch. The new Shadow of the Eternals will be no longer be released in an episodic fashion. Precursor is now stating that they will create a complete 8-10 hour game if their funding goal (which has been lowered to $750,000) is reached. David Hayter, the former voice of Solid Snake, has also been brought aboard as the voice of Detective Paul Becker, the game’s main character. Finally, Precursor will bring the game to the PS4 if they reach an unnamed stretch goal.
The rest of the pitch looks very similar to what we saw before, including a level that takes place in Csejthe Castle (home of Elizabeth Bathory, “The Blood Countess”), the Sanity Events, and an action-adventure look that is very reminiscent of Eternal Darkness. If all goes well, Precursor expects to release the game sometime in the Fall of 2014.
The Kickstarter campaign for Shadow of the Eternals will run through Friday, August 23. As of this writing, just a hair over $40,000 has been pledged towards the project.

Nintendo Download: Kid Icarus, Picross E2, Chain Blaster, more
Welcome to another week of downloadable games for your Nintendo systems:
- The Virtual Console section of the Wii U eShop has received the NES classic Kid Icarus.
- The 3DS eShop has received a trio of new titles. There’s the crossword puzzle game Picross E2, the fishing sim Angler’s Club: Ultimate Bass Fishing 3D, and the overhead shooter Chain Blaster.
- Finally, the DSiWare Shop is now home to Cute Witch! Runner, an endless runless starring a cute witch.

Batman will also battle The Mad Hatter in Arkham Origins
During their Comic-Con panel, Warner Bros. Interactive revealed that a redesigned Copperhead will do battle with The Dark Knight in this Fall’s Batman: Arkham Origins. Today, the newest issue of Official Xbox Magazine (via All Games Beta) has confirmed that another of Batman’s rogues will be included in the game: Jervis Tetch, better known as The Mad Hatter.
Tetch, a serial killer in the Arkham universe, will play a large part in Arkham Origins and be responsible for the game’s “trippy action sequences.”
Don’t be late for a very important date. Batman: Arkham Origins will be released for the PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on October 25.
Martian Manhunter will invade Injustice: Gods Among Us on July 30
NetherRealm Studios has confirmed (via Facebook) that Martian Manhunter will be available to download through the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Injustice: Gods Among Us on Tuesday, July 30. Owners of the Wii U edition will have to wait until a later date to purchase the superhero also known as J’onn J’onzz.
The Martian Manhunter DLC will likely be priced at $4.99 (400 Microsoft Points) and a John Stewart Green Lantern skin will also be available on the same day.

New Releases: The Smurfs 2
Welcome to the Smurfiest week of new releases ever. And why is that… because The Smurfs 2 is this week’s only retail release. The game will be released for the DS (but curiously, not the 3DS), PS3, Wii, Wii U, and the Xbox 360.
If the lack of new releases has left you feeling blue, don’t worry, the game industry’s many digital download services will surely have an additional batch of new games this week.
Copperhead slithers into Batman: Arkham Origins
The Arkham games have a reputation not only for being fantastic action/adventure titles, but also for being extremely in tune with their source material. I didn’t exactly grow up with Batman, and I only knew about as much as the Christopher Nolan movies taught me, but then I played Batman: Arkham Asylum, and I got a bigger taste of Batman’s world than I had anticipated.
In addition to run-ins with mainstream villains like The Joker and Poison Ivy, Arkham Asylum dug deeper into the Batman world to bring out enemies like Victor Zsasz and Killer Croc. There were also plenty of nods to even more obscure antagonists, like the deranged Humpty Dumpty, or the dreaded Calendar Man. Keeping with the tradition of providing the most authentic and fan-service loaded experience possible, WB Games has revealed the inclusion of another little-known villain in the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins: the assassin, Copperhead.
The most notable aspect of Copperhead’s appearance in Arkham Origins is, of course, that he is not a male. As of the “New 52” revamp of their entire multiverse, DC Comics is taking a different direction with Copperhead. According to DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns (via Newsarama), this new version of the character will be featured in the comic books shortly after the release of Batman: Arkham Origins. The Last of Us is first among June 2013’s best-selling games
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us cashed in on years of hype and some of the best reviews for a PS3 game ever (including a 7/7 from our own Andrew Rainnie) to emerge as the best-selling game of June 2013. Last month’s report from The NPD Group featured plenty of other new faces including Animal Crossing: New Leaf (#2), Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (#3, the first time its been available for retail sale), and Deadpool (#8).
Call of Duty: Black Ops II, NBA 2K13, and Battlefield 3 continue their lengthy runs as they sold enough copies to land at, respectively, #4, #5, and #9. The complete list of June 2013’s top ten best-selling games can be found after the break.
According to the NPD’s monthly report (via Game Informer), total retail sales of games, consoles, and accessories amounted to $593.3 million, a 15% decline from June 2012’s $700.6 million total. (more…)
Nintendo brought 20 playable games to Comic-Con 2013
This year’s San Diego Comic-Con kicked off today and Nintendo wants you to forget about superheroes and spandex and focus on their massive lineup of playable games.
The Big N will have a playable demo of Pikmin 3 on the show floor at the company’s booth (#235). But they’re saving their big push for the special “Nintendo Gaming Lounge” they’ve erected at the adjacent San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina hotel. Kiosks within the Lounge will feature 20 playable titles for the Wii U and 3DS:
