Nintendo Download: EarthBound, Shantae, Attack of the Friday Monsters, more
It’s here! It’s here! It’s here! Nintendo’s fantastic Super NES RPG, EarthBound, is now available to download through the Wii U eShop. Another bygone classic makes its way to the 3DS eShop this week as WayForward’s Arabian Nights-inspired platformer, Shantae, has been added to the digital storefront.
The 3DS eShop also received a trio of original games this week:
- Robot Rescue 3D, a puzzler where you rescue robots.
- Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale, the final game from Level-5’s “Guild02” collection.
- Undead Bowling, a bowling game starring z-z-z-zombies.
Finally, Ubisoft will add the Wii U adaptation of The Smurfs 2 to the Wii U eShop on July 23. More details about all of these titles can be found after the break. (more…)

Angry Birds Star Wars flies onto consoles, handhelds this October
Activision and Rovio are teaming up again to bring Angry Birds Star Wars to consoles and handhelds this Fall (hmm… which one is the Emperor and which one is Darth Vader?). The “saga” of birds batting pigs continues on the 3DS, PS3, Vita, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360 this October.
In addition to high definition graphics, the console/handheld version of Angry Birds Star Wars will add 20 new levels to the game as well as new new competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes.
Angry Birds Star Wars will be released for consoles and handhelds on October 29.
Pokemon Rumble U comes to the Wii U eShop on August 29
Nintendo has announced that Pokemon Rumble U, and an accompanying array of NFC-enabled figures, will be available on August 29. The game, which has been priced at $17.99, will be downloadable from the Wii U eShop. The figures, which are sold in “concealed capsules,” will be available exclusively at GameStop stores.
Pokemon Rumble U is the tale of a great adventure featuring Toy Pokemon, beginning when a delivery of Toy Pokemon is swept down a river and washes up on a strange riverbank. Our bewildered Pokemon heroes set out to find their way back to the Toy Pokemon Shop. Along the way they discover all is not right. Players will learn why some of the Toy Pokemon are fighting each other, and what the enemy Pokemon are plotting.
Pokemon Rumble U’s players (up to four simultaneously) will travel through a variety of Pokemon locales including Sparkly Playland, Mysterious Forest, and Blue Sky Park as they battle all 649 Pokemon and giant bosses.

Sonic: Lost World’s release will be found on October 22
Sega has released a new trailer for Sonic: Lost World that showcases the hedgehog’s new powers (including the Power of Rock!). The trailer has also unveiled an October 22 release date for the 3DS and Wii U game, so mark your calendars now.

The Lego Movie will also be a video game developed by TT Games
The Lego Movie will open in theaters on February 7, 2014 and after the success of Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones, and Lego Lord of the Rings, a tie-in game developed by TT Games was an inevitability. Sadly, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has decided against calling it “Lego The Lego Movie.” Instead, let’s all give a big welcome to The Lego Movie Videogame.
In a scenario drawn from the film, The Lego Movie Videogame puts Lego kids into the role of Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average Lego minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Players guide him as he is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
The Lego Movie Videogame will be released in early 2014 for the 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
Injustice’s next DLC character is Martian Manhunter
After first teasing his addition to the game over a month ago, NetherRealm Studios has officially revealed that Martian Manhunter will be the next DLC character for Injustice: Gods Among Us. NetherRealm released the first trailer featuring Martian Manhunter (as well as a John Stewart Green Lantern skin with new dialogue) at this year’s Evo 2013 event. You can check it out above.
No release date for the Martian Manhunter DLC was announced.

New Releases: Shin Megami Tensei IV, Dynasty Warriors 8, Time and Eternity, More
It’s a “grab bag” week of new releases as there’s a little something for everyone.
Atlus is bringing their popular Shin Megami Tensei series (known as MegaTen to fans and well wishers) back to the 3DS with the fourth numbered entry in the series, Shin Megami Tensei IV. It will be joined by Time and Eternity, a hand-drawn PS3 RPG from NIS America, that other Japanese RPG powerhouse.
Fans of action games will be happy to know that another Dynasty Warriors game will be available in stores this week. Dynasty Warriors 8 will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360. In other action news, somebody packaged all of the Serious Sam games together for the Xbox 360-exclusive The Serious Sam Collection.
Finally this week, Turbo: Super Stunt Squad, from DreamWorks and D3 Publisher, will be released on nearly every system known to man: 3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360.
DuckTales Remastered woo-hoos its way to PC, PS3, Wii U on August 13
Ever since DuckTales Remastered was announced at this year’s PAX East, I’ve been waiting patiently to refill Scrooge’s magnificent Money Bin with treasure. Today, Capcom announced the game’s official release date, so I won’t be waiting much longer.
DuckTales Remastered will be available to download through Steam, the PlayStation Network, and the Wii U eShop on August 13. A special PS3 retail edition, which includes a PSN download code and a collector’s pin, will be released on August 20. The Xbox Live Arcade version will follow a month later on September 11. All four downloadable versions have been priced at $14.99, while the retail version will carry a $19.99 price tag.
Finally, developer WayForward has released the first “Duckumentary” behind-the-scenes video detailing how the background designers took the original artwork and gave it a “Remastered” look and feel.
