Look! Up in the sky! WB gives Scribblenauts Unmasked a September 24 release date
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and 5th Cell have announced that Scribblenauts Unmasked, their Scribblenauts/DC Comics crossover, will be released for the 3DS, PC, and Wii U on September 24.
To celebrate, the two companies have released this cool poster showcasing the 14 variations of Superman available in the game. “Classic Superman” is well-represented, with a different flavors to choose from. But Unmasked will also include Supermen from the Red Son and Batman Beyond universes as well as Superman dressed up like Batman (AKA Speeding Bullets Superman).
All told, the game will features thousands of DC Comics characters, including a version of Doomsday dressed up like Superman!

Nintendo Download: Pilotwings, Sonic Drift 2, more
Nintendo rests for no holiday. As you celebrate the 4th of July today, Nintendo has updated the Wii U eShop with Pilotwings, so players can soar like an eagle in the Super NES classic on our nation’s birthday. Three more classic titles, the Game Gear’s Sonic Drift 2 and the Master System’s Vampire: Master of Darkness and G-LOC Air Battle, are now available on the 3DS eShop.
Also available this week…
- Deer Hunting King (3DS), a deer hunting sim.
- Fishdom H2O: Hidden Odyssey (3DS), a “find the hidden object” adventure game.
Finally, there’s a big sale this week on Mighty Switch Force! ($2.99 until July 11) and Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition ($6.67 until July 11). More information on all of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)
Unannounced Wii U titles in development at Nintendo

Perhaps in an attempt to counter what was seen as a rather conservative show at this year’s E3 Expo, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has revealed that not all of the games the company has currently in development were shown (in hindsight, this isn’t very surprising).
In an attempt to alleviate the worries of both fans and shareholders at a recent investors meeting, Iwata insisted that there were new games in development and planned for release in 2014. In his reasoning, there was too much information to spill all at one show. The Nintendo President also commented that the company “[doesn’t] want to leave a long gap between announcement/release of new game types that would lessen the impact or allow competitors to copy.”
There’s little doubt that Zelda Wii U (which is officially unannounced) is one of the games, but there was no hint as to whether the others were updates of existing IPs or new inventions from inside the House of N. Whatever the titles are, expect further announcements later this year via future Nintendo Direct videos.

More Injustice: Gods Among Us DLC on the way; All previous DLC now available for Wii U
General Zod is now available to download in Injustice: Gods Among Us on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Marketplace… and the Wii U eShop. Yes, all four of the game’s downloadable characters (including Lobo, Batgirl, and Scorpion) are now available on the Wii U as well.
Like the previous characters, the good General has been priced at $4.99/400 Microsoft Points. A “History of General Zod” trailer can be found above. Zod marks the end of the first wave of DLC characters for Injustice, but according to NetherRealm’s Ed Boon, more characters are on the way:
RT @steven421 @noobde any new dlc character announcements soon? EB: YES!

I’m sure the first person to ask him about Martian Manhunter will get the kiss of death, Sonya-style.

TitanFall wins “Best of Show” at E3 2013 Game Critics Awards

Respawn’s TitanFall is a big winner in this year’s E3 2013 Game Critics Awards. The mech shooter, which will be available for the PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in Spring 2014, won all six awards it was nominated for, including the coveted “Best of Show” award.
TitanFall was the only game to win in multiple categories this year, but Watch Dogs (“Best Action/Adventure Game”), Tearaway (“Best Handheld/Mobile Game”), The Elder Scrolls Online (“Best Role Playing Game”), and a few others split the nine remaining awards. And a virtual high five to the developers at Supergiant Games for Transistor, which was selected as the “Best Downloadable Game.” We liked it quite a bit at PAX East 2013 too.
You can find the complete list of selections from this year’s Game Critics Awards after the break. (more…)

Nintendo Download: Kokuga, Sonic 2, Sonic Labyrinth, more
Ikaruga and Gradius V fans take note, Hiroshi Iuchi’s next game as Director, Kokuga, is now available to download from the 3DS eShop. Kokuga is a top-down shooter (naturally) that also throws in a card-based powerup system.
Also available this week on the 3DS eShop are a trio of Game Gear titles (Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Labyrinth, Crystal Warriors), one of the first NES games ever (Spelunker), an “action-biker” game (Urban Trial Freestyle), a bite-sized version of rhythm game Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove (Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove Mini), and a futuristic racer from Majesco (Crash City Mayhem, which will be availably July 2).
Finally, the Super NES game Vegas Stakes, which was originally released in 1993, has been added to the Wii U eShop. OK, but it seems like an odd choice for one of the first SNES games to be added to the Wii U Virtual Console.
The New Conservatism of Nintendo

Nintendo has never been known for having a liberal attitude. Even with a diverse range of characters, the publisher has fallen back on reimagining their various iconic characters (such as Mario, Link, and Samus) through the decades. When the company was still battling with rival Sega, it was Nintendo that took the moral high ground, often censoring blood or religious imagery from games on their systems, most famously in the original Mortal Kombat, where blood was replaced with sweat and the finishing moves were toned down. In recent years, Nintendo has even throttled back the power of its consoles (compare the Wii and Wii U with the PS3/Xbox 360 and PS4/Xbox One) versus competing systems. However, with the end of this year’s E3 Expo came a decisive contrast in how gamers and journalists alike perceived Nintendo, and that for better or worse, the company has entered a new era of conservatism.
