Nintendo holding Wii U press event on September 13

Since it’s splashy appearance at this year’s E3 Expo, Nintendo has been mostly quiet about the Wii U. That looks to change next month as the company has announced they’re holding a special Wii U media event on September 13.

Sadly, the Big N didn’t come right out and say that the price and a launch date would be revealed during this event. But Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime did say that he plans to discuss “more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment.”

What else could Nintendo possibly have to share besides A) when we’ll get to play it and B) how much it’ll cost to take it home?

Looking back at the Wii’s launch window, there’s reason to be hopeful that Nintendo will announce the release window and/or the price next month. Back in 2006, Nintendo announced the Wii’s price and launch date on September 14. Hmm…

CoD: Black Ops II for Wii U appears on developer resume

It comes as no surprise that Call of Duty: Black Ops II is being tested on the Wii U. According to Activision employee Randall H.’s LinkedIn page, the quality assurance tester has been doing multiplayer testing for Black Ops II since May on both the PlayStation 3 and the Wii U.

Seeing as Black Ops II will be coming out on November 13 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, it seems like there’s a pretty good chance that it will be one of the Wii U’s biggest and baddest launch titles. It wouldn’t be the first Call of Duty game on a Nintendo system, but with the Wii U’s beefed up hardware and impressive controller, it’s sure to be a killer.

This is the complete Just Dance 4 soundtrack

The full track list for Just Dance 4 has been revealed, and I have a feeling people are going to be excited that it’s a boatload of songs that are impossible to get out of your head once you’ve heard them. “Call Me Maybe” will be in it, and I sincerely hope the dude in this Chat Roulette video has the game on pre-order as a result of that.

In addition to over 40 new songs, Just Dance 4 has a Battle Mode, unlockable Alternate Choreographies, and an expanded “Just Sweat” Mode. The Wii U version also has exclusive features, including Puppet Master Mode, which allows the player with the Wii U GamePad to switch up the routines on the other players. Sounds slightly sadistic!

Just Dance 4 will be out on October 9 for the PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360, with a planned launch release on the Wii U. Hit the jump for the complete song list. (more…)

Wii U might be delayed in Europe… but GamePad covers confirmed

Some good news and some bad news about the impending launch of Nintendo’s Wii successor has leaked out. We’ll start with the good news first.

A listing on Amazon UK for a “Nintendo Licensed Controller Faceplate (Wii U)” confirms that the console’s controller will likely get a fancy cover. Given the amount of mobile phone and tablet customisable covers that exist, it makes sense that Nintendo would seek to exploit this trend and open up another cash revenue. Amazon has pegged it at £14.99 (just over $23), which matches prices for gel skins for tablets.

The bad news, if true, is a much more disappointing rumor, courtesy of CVG. They are reporting that due to the manufacturing of the Wii U GamePad, the European release date of the Wii U may be pushed into early December in order to make sure there is enough supply for the North American release before the lucrative Thanksgiving holiday. While it sounds like gloomy news for Europe, the Wii U is still expected this side of Christmas 2012, whereas only two months ago that date was rumoured to be slipping into 2013.

Game Party Champions brings more minigames to Wii U launch

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced a new addition to the Game Party franchise, Game Party Champions. The minigame collection, which is set to be a Wii U launch title, will include hoop shoot, ping pong, skill ball, and table hockey. Are we having fun yet, people???

The game, which is being developed by Phosphor games, will have HD graphics, as well as three game modes – Quick Play, Story Mode, and Party Mode. The last mode has one player using the Wii U GamePad while the other players “grief” that player using WiiMotes. The press release actually says “grief (wreak havoc),” in case you were wondering.

Senior Vice President of Production and Development at Warner Bros., Samantha Ryan, had this to say: “Developed specifically for Wii U, Game Party Champions has a fun, pick up-and-play style that experienced and novice gamers will equally enjoy. Players can tilt, turn and swipe the Wii U’s revolutionary touch screen controller to play in entirely new ways.”

Perhaps all this innovation will help make Game Party Champions be more successful than the last three poorly-reviewed games in this series.

Ubisoft confirms Wii U box art designs are “too legit to quit”

Remember that post yesterday about the leaked game covers for Wii U games? GameTrailers has confirmed that they are the real deal.

Michael Beadle, an Ubisoft PR rep, said “Why yes, the Wii U box art you sent is legit; in fact, it’s too legit to quit.”

Not only is that great news, now that song is going to be stuck in my head all day. Double bonus!

Aliens: Colonial Marines Dev Diary #2: Xenos vs Marines

This developer diary for Aliens: Colonial Marines has it all. Xenomorphs? Check. Hot gameplay action? Check. Randy Pitchford? Double check. It’s also got awesome quotes like “There’s no negotiating with this thing. It’s going to kill you.”

Pitchford, Gearbox’s CEO and President, is joined by Producer Brian Burleson, Senior Design Director John Mulkey, and Writer Mikey Neumann in this episode. They talk about how scary these aliens are, how much influence they took from the films, and what their favorite weapons are in the game. But really, you should just watch the video.

Aliens: Colonial Marines will be out on February 12, 2013 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
