Nintendo Download: 3D After Burner II, Lufia: The Legend Returns, more

After adding Super Mario Galaxy 2 to the Wii U eShop yesterday, the consolemaker is back with another big batch of games in their usual Thursday update.
This week, 3DS owners can now download 3D After Burner II, an enhanced rendition of Sega’s arcade classic, and Lufia: The Legend Returns, a well-loved RPG that was originally released for the Game Boy Color in 2001.
The Wii U eShop is now home to a few new games as well including Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight, a wacky NES spinoff of the Street Fighter, and Electronic Super Joy: Groove City, a retro-inspired platformer that is about… I swear to god… the heroine’s search for her missing “Laser-Nipples.”
More information on all of these games (and a few others) can be found after the break. (more…)
New Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer is a travelogue of the planet Mira
During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo unveiled a new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X that showcases the game’s expansive open world. The game is set on an alien planet known as Mira, which is now home to a cadre of humans who left Earth in a generation ship. But Mira was already home to a wide variety of animal life including flying whale-like creatures and massive worms who traverse lush forests, towering mountains, and endless oceans alongside our main characters.
So what’s the game all about? Aside from serving as a spiritual successor to Xenoblade Chronicles, the story of Xenoblade Chronicles X is still shrouded in mystery. But we won’t have to wait much longer to find out more as the game is still on track for a 2015 release exclusively on the Wii U.

Nintendo adds Super Mario Galaxy 2 to Wii U eShop with more Wii games to follow
The Wii U eShop is about to get a whole lot more interesting as Nintendo has announced that they have begun adding Wii games to their downloadable.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be the first Wii game added to the Wii U eShop and it is available to download right now. It will joined shortly by the excellent Punch-Out!! (January 22) and the ultra-rare Metroid Prime Trilogy (January 29). All three titles have been priced at $19.99 apiece, but Nintendo will offer them at a heavy discount ($9.99) during each game’s first week of availability.
All Wii games sold through the Wii U eShop will require a Wii Remote and Nunchuk combo, though games that originally included Wii Classic Controller support will be playable with the Wii U GamePad.

Nintendo announces more Amiibos including Wave 4 (with Pac-Man!) and Super Mario series
Are you ready for even more Amiibo figures? While I’ll probably never get my hands on a Little Mac, Nintendo has gone ahead and announced a fourth wave of the popular toys as well as a special Super Mario series.
Wave 4 will be available sometime this Spring and will be comprised of six figures (Robin, Lucina, Pac-Man, Wario, Ness, and Charizard). Meanwhile, the special Super Mario series will launch on March 20 and include new figures for Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, and Bowser. The series will also include Toad, who will be making his Amiibo debut.
All of these Amiibo figures will be compatible with Super Smash Bros. For Wii U and some will work with other Wii U games such as Mario Party 10 and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Warp Zoned’s 2014 Golden Pixel Awards: Honoring Our Favorite Games
![]()
With the PS4 and Xbox One entering their first full year on store shelves, 2014 turned out to be a bit of a transition year. A lot of games were delayed into 2015 and a few others were delayed even further. With the other two consolemakers taking a step back in 2014, it was Nintendo’s time to shine and the wizards behind the Wii U responded with nearly a dozen major titles. But that doesn’t mean the PS4 and the Xbox One (or the PS3 and Xbox 360, for that matter) went hungry in 2014.
There were plenty of great games to go around last year and you can read all about them as we hand out our annual Golden Pixel Awards… (more…)

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor leads the pack with 5 nominations at 2015 GDC Awards
The nominees for this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards have been announced and, unsurprisingly, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor leads the way with five nominations, including “Game of the Year.”
Shadow of Mordor will compete for the top prize with other four multi-category nominees including Alien: Isolation, Bayonetta 2, Destiny, and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. Believe it or not, the next-most-nominated game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, was actually shut out of the “Game of the Year” category. The Astronauts’ mystery title was nominated for “Best Narrative,” “Best Audio,” the “Innovation Award,” and “Best Debut.”
Alien: Isolation (“Best Visual Art” and “Best Audio”), Destiny (“Best Audio” and “Best Technology”), and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft (“Best Design” and “Best Handheld/Mobile Game”) are each up for two additional awards while Bayonetta 2 is also up for “Best Visual Art.”
A complete list of the nominees for this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards can be found after the break. And be sure to check back for a look at the winners, which will be announced on March 4 during the Game Developers Conference.

This War of Mine, The Talos Principle, 80 Days lead nominees of 2015 IGF Awards

The Independent Games Festival has unveiled the nominees for their 17th annual awards show, which will take place on March 4, just before the GDC Awards during this year’s Game Developers Conference. Leading the way is Inkle Studios’ 80 Days, which was nominated for three awards. 11 Bit’s This War of Mine and Croteam’s The Talos Principle weren’t far behind, as each garnered two nominations apiece.
All three games will be competing for the “Seumas McNally Grand Prize” against Klei’s Invisible Inc., Team Outer Wilds’ Outer Wilds, and Patrick Smith’s Metamorphabet.
You can find a complete list of finalists and honorable mentions for all six awards (including “Excellence In Visual Art,” “Excellence In Narrative,” “Excellence In Design,” “Excellence In Audio,” and the “Nuovo Award”) and the Student Showcase after the break. (more…)
