Nintendo rolls out a new website for Zelda’s 25th anniversary
Somebody grab the Silver Arrows, because The Legend of Zelda series is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. After the announcement of that awesome symphony tour, Nintendo has launched The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary website which includes videos of the orchestra at E3 and an interactive history of the franchise.
Nintendo has also merged The Legend of Zelda with their popular Flipnote Studio software for a new contest that’ll be judged by Shigeru Miyamoto himself:
Starting today through September 9, DSi or DSi XL owners are also invited to create their own flipnotes, or short animations, inspired by The Legend of Zelda series. DSi or DSi XL owners can use one of three flipnote templates with music from The Legend of Zelda series, then complete and upload their creations via the Flipnote Studio application. Flipnote Studio is available as a free download from the Nintendo DSiWare service, and also comes pre-installed on select DSi and DSi XL hardware. Fans can also submit a paper entry by mail. The best Zelda-themed flipnotes will be evaluated by key Nintendo developers who have worked on the series – including Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi – and posted for fans to enjoy on the 25th anniversary website, the Nintendo Channel on the Wii console and Flipnote Hatena on DSi and DSi XL systems.
Finally, no anniversary celebration would be complete without games and a ton of new Zelda titles are in the pipeline for 2011 including the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, a free DSi/3DS download of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords in September and the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii by the end of the year.
Daily Scoop: August 8, 2011 – Tunic for Heroes
Oh, Monday. How you came up and stole the weekend away! But it’s ok, because I got to play a ton of video games all weekend, including some Borderlands and some co-op Portal 2. So bring it on, Monday!
Let’s see, what have we got today? Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Ubisoft’s CSI: Unsolved for the Nintendo DS. It’s on sale for just $9.99, so if you feel like solving some crimes with Morpheus Laurence Fishburne, now’s your chance!
Amazon’s also got new weekly deals in games. If you buy Disney Epic Mickey, you can get another Disney game for a total of $39.99. (My vote is always for Disney Sing It: Party Hits!) The other deal is $20.99 for Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for the Nintendo DS.
No daily gaming shirts today, but I’m sort of loving 6 Dollar Shirts, especially this one: (more…)

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 coming to Wii

Activision has used their quarterly financial report to reveal that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming to the Wii this November in addition to the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Eric Hirshberg, the CEO of Activision Publishing, had this to say about the announcement:
“We’re pleased to have recently confirmed that we will release a Modern Warfare 3 Wii SKU this year so as not to leave any of our community out of the excitement.”
No other details concerning the Wii version of Modern Warfare 3 were revealed, but the previous Call of Duty games are considered some of the premiere shooters on the Wii, so I expect Activision to continue that trend with Modern Warfare 3.

Daily Scoop: August 3, 2011 – BLands edition!
This might just be the best day ever: Borderlands 2 was announced! And it will be playable at PAX Prime! AND I saw a kitten on my way into work! *head explodes*
Anyway, Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games today is Namco’s ExerBeat for the Wii. It’s $14.99 from $19.99, and I’m just going to go ahead and say that is not a deal, people. $5 off??? Give me a break. Whatever, BORDERLANDS 2 IS COMING OUT OMG.
Also, there’s an awesome t-shirt today that I think our Editor-in-Chief, John Scalzo, might instantly buy. It’s called “I Want Kombat,” and it’s over at Tee Fury: (more…)

New Releases: Duke Nukem Forever for Mac, Bleach Soul Resurreccion, Saints Row Pack
The Summer game drought continues into the first week of August (and likely beyond).
This week, NIS America will be bringing the interestingly spelled Bleach: Soul Resurreccion to the PlayStation 3 and…
um…
hmm…
Oh! Duke Nukem Forever will be available for the Mac this week. Yeah, that’s pretty much it. Unless you count the Saints Row Double Pack on the Xbox 360 as a new release.
Check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)
Xenoblade still missing from Nintendo’s latest game calendar
It was a long shot, but it looks like Nintendo has decided to ignore Operation Rainfall’s campaign to bring Xenoblade to America. The publisher has released a game release calendar for the remainder of 2011 and the Monolith Soft-developed RPG wasn’t on it.
Also missing from the list were The Last Story or Pandora’s Tower, two other Nintendo-published Wii titles that Operation Rainfall had set their sights on.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo has shot down the hopes of a North American localization for Xenoblade, The Last Story or Pandora’s Tower in America. A company spokesman revealed that Nintendo had “no plans” to publish the games back in June.
