Nintendo Download: Urban Champion… in 3D!

One of the most reviled NES games ever released, Urban Champion, makes its way to the 3DS eShop this week as part of the handheld’s “3D Classics” line.

Also available this week is a trio of DSiWare games: Zoonies: Escape from Makatu, an animal kingdom platformer; Blockado: Puzzle Island, a puzzle game; and Build-a-lot, a SimCity-like city manager.

Finally there’s Flight Control (WiiWare), an air traffic controller sim for the WiiWare service.

Daily Scoop: August 17, 2011 – GAMESCOM!

Well hello there, Gamescom. You snuck up on me and punched me in the head with a lot of awesome new trailers. Oh yeah, and a Vita Resistance game that looks sexy as hell. And and and *head explodes*

Anyway, Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games today is all Disney! Disney Epic Mickey is $17.99 and Guilty Party and Toy Story 3 The Video Game are $14.99, all on the Wii, while Tron: Evolution is $19.99 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Scoop ’em up!

Daily Scoop: August 16, 2011 – Another day, another night of Borderlands

So, Ryan Littlefield and I were up late again playing Borderlands. Shocking, I know. We collected a bunch of brains, levelled up a few times, and finished all the missions in the first DLC. Woo! Oh, yeah, and there’s also a teaser for Borderlands 2 which has me freaking out. It’s a good day to love treasure hunting on Pandora!

Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games today is Activision’s Cabela’s Big Game Hunter 2010 with Gun Bundle for the Wii. It’s $19.99 today down from $29.99. Also up is a Lightning Deal in video games – the Nickelodeon Fun N Fit Bundle for the Wii. It’s just $39.99 today down from $75.95, and it works with the Wii Balance Board.

Roster revealed for WWE ’12

THQ has announced 60 characters from the roster for the latest in their wrestling series, WWE ’12. While previously having a Smackdown vs. Raw theme to the game, THQ is changing things up a bit this year. Hit the jump for the full list of who’s confirmed so far – and keep in mind that Jerry “The King” Lawler will be available as DLC when the game launches on November 12 for the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. Sonic 4 Episode 2 announcement coming “very soon”

Hey, remember that side-scrolling reboot of the Sonic series that Sega said would honor the hedgehog’s Genesis roots? And no, I’m not talking about the upcoming Sonic Generations. It’s easy to forget, but I’m actually talking about the episodic adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Episode I was released in October of last year and in the ten months since, Sega has mentioned nary a peep about Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II. But, according to Sega West CEO Mike Hayes, an announcement concerning the downloadable game will arrive “very soon.” And actually, we should “look out for that one.”

Mike, buddy, I don’t want to tell you how to run your business, but if there’s nearly a year between the release of Episode I and the announcement of Episode II, that’s not an episodic release schedule. Just ask Gabe Newell.

Nintendo of America is watching Xenoblade’s reception in Europe

Xenoblade will be published in Europe next week and even though a Nintendo of America spokesman said the company has “no plans” to bring it across the Atlantic, Xenoblade is a major subject of conversation around Redmond.

Speaking to IGN, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said: “We will be watching very closely what happens in Europe. Certainly if there are business opportunities and positive consumer uptake from some of those titles, that will be great data for us to consider as we look at what to do with these titles.”

Don’t pop the champagne corks just yet, but this is the best news to come out of Nintendo of America about Xenoblade since the company first announced it under the title Monado: Beginning of the World (yes, at one time, Xenoblade had an official American release scheduled).

Nintendo Download: Avenging Spirit, Super Adventure Island II

It’s Thursday and Nintendo has added several new games to their trio of download services. This week’s new releases include:

Nintendo DSiWare
* Go! Go! Kokopolo – Take control of hyperactive wildcat Kokopolo in a fast, frantic, action-packed caper of pure arcade mayhem. Hunt down those responsible for disturbing your afternoon slumber.
* Crazy Hamster
* My Asian Farm

3DS eShop
* Avenging Spirit – This classic action game introduced a unique system for possessing and controlling other characters. Help a heroic ghost rescue his girlfriend from her kidnappers so he can finally rest in peace.

WiiWare
* Kyotokei
* Super Adventure Island II (Virtual Console)

Nintendo rolls out a new website for Zelda’s 25th anniversary

Somebody grab the Silver Arrows, because The Legend of Zelda series is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. After the announcement of that awesome symphony tour, Nintendo has launched The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary website which includes videos of the orchestra at E3 and an interactive history of the franchise.

Nintendo has also merged The Legend of Zelda with their popular Flipnote Studio software for a new contest that’ll be judged by Shigeru Miyamoto himself:

Starting today through September 9, DSi or DSi XL owners are also invited to create their own flipnotes, or short animations, inspired by The Legend of Zelda series. DSi or DSi XL owners can use one of three flipnote templates with music from The Legend of Zelda series, then complete and upload their creations via the Flipnote Studio application. Flipnote Studio is available as a free download from the Nintendo DSiWare service, and also comes pre-installed on select DSi and DSi XL hardware. Fans can also submit a paper entry by mail. The best Zelda-themed flipnotes will be evaluated by key Nintendo developers who have worked on the series – including Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi – and posted for fans to enjoy on the 25th anniversary website, the Nintendo Channel on the Wii console and Flipnote Hatena on DSi and DSi XL systems.

Finally, no anniversary celebration would be complete without games and a ton of new Zelda titles are in the pipeline for 2011 including the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, a free DSi/3DS download of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords in September and the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii by the end of the year.
