Alien: Isolation pre-order bonuses let you relive 1979’s Alien

Now this is how you do a pre-order bonus!

Sega and 20th Century Fox have announced that gamers who pre-order Alien: Isolation will be upgraded to the Nostromo Edition, which will include an exclusive mission based on 1979’s Alien.

The “Crew Expendable” mission will allow players to take control of Ripley, Dallas, or Parker as they attempt to lure the Xenomorph into the airlock. Regardless of which character you select, you’ll coordinate with Lambert and Ash on the task. Best of all, every character (except for Ian Holm’s Ash) will be voiced by the actor who originated the role. So that means Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley), Tom Skerritt (Dallas), Veronica Cartwright (Lambert), Yaphet Kotto (Parker) and Harry Dean Stanton (Brett) will all appear in the mission.

Gamers who pre-order Alien: Isolation from GameStop will receive a second mission based on Alien, “Last Survivor.” In this mission, players will take control of Ripley as she activates the self-destruct sequence and gets to the shuttle. Don’t forget the cat!

“Working with the original cast has been an incredible experience,” said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead on Alien: Isolation. “It was important to us to have the key original cast members reprise their roles in order to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the movie. For some of the original cast, this is their first appearance in an Alien video game. Seeing them reprise those roles after 35 years was an unforgettable experience.”

Alien: Isolation will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 7.

wolfamongus-header

It’s all been building up to this. The season finale of Telltale’s adaptation of Fables, The Wolf Among Us, is now available to download from the Xbox Live Game Store. Episode 5 is entitled Cry Wolf and, just like all of the previous entries in the episodic season, it can be download individually (for $4.99) or as part of the Season Pass (for $19.99).

The Wolf Among Us Episode 5: Cry Wolf ($4.99)
The final episode of a five-part game series based on the award-winning Fables comic book series by Bill Willingham (published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint).

The series has been incredibly well received and I’m sure Telltale is working on The Wolf Among Us Season 2 as we speak.

titanfall-header

Before it launched, Respawn revealed that TitanFall would be followed by three DLC map packs. The first, Expedition, was released in May. And now we know the name of the second: Frontier’s Edge.

Like Expedition, Frontier’s Edge will include will include three new maps. The three maps will be known as “Dig Site” (an “isolated mining outpost”), “Haven” (an “exclusive beach resort”), and “Export” (a “mining hub on the side of a mountain”). If you purchased the TitanFall Season Pass, you’ll be able to download the Frontier’s Edge DLC for free. It will also be available individually at a price of $9.99.

Is Destiny fated to appear on Wii U? Nintendo fans want to believe so

destiny-header

With the Destiny hyperdrive roaring towards its September release date, Activision and Bungie have been revealing lots of information recently. The beta test for both of Sony’s PlayStation systems will arrive on July 17, while Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners will have to wait one full week more to get their hands on the sci-fi FPS. Beta access is only available via pre-order, and will end on all systems on the 27th.

The obvious omission from the list (aside from the PC) is Nintendo’s Wii U, which has been shunned by many developers entirely. A motivated group of fans known as “The Guardians” have hijacked Change.org and launched a petition to bring Destiny to the Wii U. The group hopes that if enough Wii U owners sign up, Activision and Bungie will take note, and hopefully adapt the game for the console. Given that the game is coming to previous generation consoles, and the Wii U has seen a sales spurt thanks to Mario Kart 8, their list of excuses seems to be narrowing. That said, any work to port the game would mean it’s release would most likely be a year after the game goes on sale for every other platform on September 9. Still, there can be little harm in Nintendo fans vocally encouraging third party developers to take note of their growing presence.

After all, it worked for Operation Rainfall.

Destiny beta begins July 17; Collector’s Editions, Expansion Pass announced

After teasing gamers with a Destiny alpha last month, Bungie is gearing up for the game’s official beta test, which we now know will begin on July 17 for PS4 and PS3 owners. Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners will be able to join the beta beginning on July 23 (after it temporarily shuts down on July 21 and 22 for maintenance) and the test will come to an end for everyone on July 27. The beta will be open to everyone who has pre-ordered Destiny at “select retailers,” so if you want to play, you’ve got to pre-pay.

As befitting every major game release nowadays, Destiny will also receive a pair of special editions and an Expansion Pass. The standard edition is still available, but if you’d prefer to obtain the Limited Edition ($99.99), you’ll receive the following:

  • Limited edition SteelBook Case and Game Disc
  • Guardian Folio:
    • Arms & Armament Field Guide
    • Postcards from the Golden Age
    • Antique Star Chart
  • Collector’s Edition Digital Content Pack:
    • Unique Ghost Casing
    • Exclusive Player Emblem
    • Exclusive Player Ship Variant
  • Destiny Expansion Pass – Expands the Destiny adventure post-launch with the following two expansions, which will include brand new story missions, cooperative activities and competitive multiplayer arenas, and a wealth of all new weapons, armor and gear to earn:
    • Expansion I: The Dark Below – Set deep beneath the surface of the Moon, fans will discover an ancient tomb that has been unsealed, and a dark god who has risen an evil army in the depths of the Hellmouth, the home of the Hive enemy race
    • Expansion II: House of Wolves – details will be revealed later
    • PlayStation platforms will also include additional exclusive content for Expansion I and II and will remain exclusive until at least Fall of 2015

Not bad, not bad. But the Ghost Edition is where the real cool stuff is. It’s priced a bit higher ($149.99), but it’ll include everything from the Limited Edition and:

  • Ghost Replica, featuring motion-activated lights and voice recordings from award-winning actor Peter Dinklage, voice of the Ghost character, the player’s personal companion in the game
  • Golden Age Relics, which include a Photo, Patch, Sticker and two Chrome slides of the Traveler
  • Letter of Introduction

Finally, a Digital Guardian Edition will be released that packages together a digital download of he game and the Expansion Pass. Purchasing them together will net players a $5 discount. And if you’d prefer to buy the game and worry about the Expansion Pass later, it’ll be available separately for $34.99 (and each expansion is $19.99 if purchased individually).

Destiny will be available on September 9. But in the meantime, be sure to watch the brand new beta trailer above and hit the jump for a sneak peek at the Ghost Edition. (more…)

Mighty No. 9 animated adaptation in the works

I don’t how this will impact the planned live-action adaptation, but Comcept and Digital Frontier have announced they’ve begun work on an animated adaptation of Mighty No. 9.

The project is still in the early stages, but Digital Frontier wants to create an “action-packed comedy aimed at kids 6-11” that they hope will appeal to adults as well. If the teaser video above is any indication, I think they’ve got a shot at doing just that. Produced for this weekend’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles, the video is a neat little taste of things to come. However, according to an FAQ posted on the official Mighty No. 9 site, no one has officially signed on to the animated adaptation as of yet. Digital Frontier is still looking for writers, a director, and voice actors. Because of this, we don’t know when Mighty No. 9: The Animated Series will make its television debut.

But hopefully the announcer sticks around, he’s pretty awesome.
