Techland’s Project Hell announced as Hellraid

heallraid-header

Dead Island developer Techland has revealed that the game formally announced as “Project Hell” will officially be titled Hellraid. The game will be unleashed on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 later this year.

Techland has described Hell Raid as a “first-person co-op slasher” that will have single-player campaign, as well as co-op multiplayer where you and your friends battle against the denizens of Hell – as well as each other – for points and loot.

The armies of Hell brought pain and destruction to the realm of man, and only a select few have the fighting skills necessary to confront the devilish monstrosities. Combining elements of hack & slash RPGs, first-person shooters and online multiplayer games, Hellraid features an advanced, immersive combat system with melee, ranged and magical weapons. The engaging Game Master system makes each game a different experience, placing loot and enemies while generating random online challenges.

More information on Hellraid, including the first screenshots, can be found at Hellraid.com.

Ghostly images on CallofDuty.com point to Call of Duty 10 reveal

callofduty10-mosaicThe official Call of Duty website has a new landing page courtesy of publisher Activision that will likely lead to a Call of Duty 10 reveal very soon.

The page features a ghostly mosaic created using the Twitter and Facebook profile pictures of people who’ve talked about Call of Duty in the last few hours. Previous rumors have targeted May 1st for this year’s Call of Duty debut announcement.

Hmm… a ghostly mosaic… that couldn’t be a hint that Call of Duty: Ghosts is real, now could it?

Ubisoft spies a November 19 release date for Watch Dogs; Xbox 720 version confirmed

The secret is out… Ubisoft has announced that Watch Dogs will be released on November 19. On that date, the game will be available for the PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. A PS4 version is in the works and will be released at the next-generation console’s launch. Finally, Ubisoft has confirmed that Watch Dogs is also coming to “other next generation consoles,” which can only refer to an Xbox 720/Durango version of the game.

Unless Nintendo has got a secret next-next-generation console in the works.

Ubisoft is also putting your spy skills to the test with the latest Watch Dogs trailer, which is posted above. Somewhere in that cinematic thrill ride is supposed to be some new “gameplay” footage. Can you find it? Because I can’t.

European retailers list Call of Duty: Ghosts for November release

callofdutyghosts-rumor-boxLast year, Activision pulled back the curtain on Call of Duty: Black Ops II on May 1. If a similar plan is in place for this Fall’s Call of Duty 10, that means we’re less than 48 hours away from an announcement.

But a group of European retailers may have jumped the gun a might early.

Over the weekend, a number of retailers posted (and then subsequently pulled) pages for something known as Call of Duty: Ghosts. According to the retailer postings, the game will be developed by Infinity Ward and it’s in development for the PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. It is also expected to launch on November 11, but that’s not much of a surprise as the Call of Duty franchise has owned the second week of November for years now.

A product description at Tesco revealed that Call of Duty: Ghosts may be using a brand-new engine and breaking away from the Modern Warfare storyline:

The franchise that has defined a generation of gaming is set to raise the bar once again with the all-new Call of Duty: Ghosts. Published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the original Call of Duty and the seminal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, Call of Duty: Ghosts ushers in the next generation of the franchise, delivering a riveting all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast, all powered by a new next-generation Call of Duty engine.

Watch 8 minutes of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon gameplay in this video

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is just a few days away and Creative Director Dean Evans has decided to give us all an extended look at the open world of the game in the walkthrough video posted above. It’s got it all… grenades, shotguns that shoot flaming bullets, a “flip the bird” button, and dragons with frickin’ laser beams on their heads.

Dean Evans is a brilliant, brilliant man. And not just because of his cheeky British accent.

New Releases: Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Soul Sacrifice, Deadly Premonition, More

newreleases043013

The absolutely epic ridiculous epic Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is available this week as a PC download. And it’ll also be available to download from the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. Don’t worry, Sergeant Rex “Power” Colt, we’ll save the world together! 80s montage… go!

Also available this week is Keiji Inafune’s action RPR for the Vita, Soul Sacrifice. Inafune is the celebrated creator of Mega Man, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, and many other games. Following his post-Capcom career has become a bit of a challenge (he’s connected to a ton of different games), but Soul Sacrifice seems like a good place to start.

It’s been three years, but there’s still no consensus on whether 2010’s Deadly Premonition is the work of a mad genius or someone who’s just mad. But Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro didn’t let that stop him and he’s bringing Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut to the PS3 this week.

Finally, turn-based strategy game Leviathan: Warships is available this week from Paradox Interactive.

Lobo trounces an unprepared Batman in this Injusice DLC trailer

Today, they’ve unveiled the first footage of the intergalactic bounty hunter in the game… and he’s putting a beatdown on Batman! Stick around for his finisher, it’s worth it.

Lobo runs Batman down with his hovercycle, blasts him in the face with exhaust, and then flips him a pixelated middle finger! You gotta love Lobo.

Lobo will be available to download on May 7.

XCOM FPS becomes third-person tactical shooter The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

After seven years in development, the XCOM FPS is dead… and now say hello to its replacement, the third-person tactical shooter The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.

Set in 1962, The Bureau goes back to the beginnings of the alien-hunting organization and their efforts to keep humanity in the dark about the extraterrestrial threat. And without a Men In Black-style neuralizer, that’s going to require a bit more effort:

The Bureau tells the origin story of the clandestine XCOM organisation’s first encounter with a mysterious and devastating enemy. Originally established as America’s covert defense against the Soviet Union, The Bureau must adapt and overcome a threat unlike anything the world has faced before. As special agent William Carter, players will call the shots and pull the trigger, leading their squad of agents in the high-stakes secret war for humanity’s survival. Paramount to repelling the outside threat is The Bureau’s ability to cover-up the enemy’s existence in order to prevent worldwide panic.

Like the XCOM FPS before it, The Bureau is in development at 2K Marin (the same team behind BioShock 2). According to Creative Director Morgan Gray, the team at 2K Marin wants to respect the XCOM tradition in their third-person world: “The team has been working hard to leverage core XCOM elements like tactical decision-making and permanent death of squad mates in a purposeful way that makes this a unique tactical shooter. To that end, The Bureau will challenge players unlike any other third-person tactical shooter.”

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on August 20. Players who pre-order the game will receive access to the “Codebreakers” DLC mission.
